Wicked Lester — The Original Wicked Lester Session 1972 (USA, Hard Rock)
The band formed in New York City in 1970 under the name "Rainbow." Two of its notable members were bassist Gene Klein (born Chaim Witz) and rhythm guitarist Paul Stanley Eisen, who later adopted the stage names Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, respectively. In 1971, the group changed its name to "Wicked Lester" and recorded an album for Epic Records that was never officially released. Recordings from this session later surfaced as a bootleg titled *The Original Wicked Lester Session*. Wicked Lester's music ranged from rock 'n' roll to folk. Feeling that the band lacked a cohesive musical vision, Simmons and Stanley began forming a new project in late 1972. By early 1973—with a revised lineup, a heavier sound, and the addition of showmanship and theatrical elements to their performances—they were known as "Kiss."
