Protecting dogs from fleas, ticks and common infectious diseases is important year-round, not just during warmer months.

Merck Animal Health says fleas and ticks can transmit diseases that may put both pets and people at risk, making ongoing prevention an important part of routine veterinary care.

For flea and tick protection, pet parents have several options to discuss with their veterinarian. Bravecto Quantum is an in-clinic injection that provides protection against fleas and most ticks for up to 12 months, while Bravecto Chews can be given at home and provide extended protection for up to 12 weeks.

Merck Animal Health also supports animal welfare through Bravecto CARES, a program benefiting organizations including The Street Dog Coalition, which provides free veterinary care to pets of people experiencing homelessness, and NEADS, which provides service dogs to individuals with disabilities.

For dogs that frequently visit dog parks, boarding facilities or kennels, another consideration is protection against canine cough.

Nobivac Intra-Trac Oral BbPi is an oral vaccine designed to protect against Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine parainfluenza virus, two common causes of canine cough. Fall is also a good reminder to make sure pets are up to date on medications, vaccines and microchip information.

Pet parents should talk with their veterinarian about which prevention options are appropriate for their dog. Bravecto products should be used with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurological disorders.

00:04I'm Dr. Carrie Shaver, and I'm an Associate Director of Professional Veterinary Services
00:09with Merck Animal Health. It's important to protect pets against fleas and ticks year-round
00:14because we know that fleas and ticks can transmit diseases that put both pets and people at risk.
00:21Brevecto Quantum can offer continuous protection for dogs against fleas and ticks while providing
00:27that peace of mind for the people who take care of them. The best place to start is by discussing
00:32with your veterinarian. With Brevecto, pet parents have choices. Brevecto Quantum is an in-clinic
00:38injection that provides long-lasting protection against fleas and most ticks for up to 12 months.
00:46Brevecto Choose is another option, also extended duration, and provides your dog long-lasting
00:51protection for up to 12 weeks, and that one's administered at home. Besides just protecting
00:56pets from fleas and ticks, which is so important, Brevecto Cares is a program that supports
01:02organizations like the Street Dog Coalition and NEEDS. The Street Dog Coalition is an organization
01:08that helps provide free veterinary care to dogs of people experiencing homelessness, while NEEDS
01:15provides service dogs to individuals with disabilities, both of which align with Merck Animal
01:20Health's mission to support the welfare of all dogs. Another product I would recommend considering,
01:26especially if your dog visits dog parks or needs to stay in a kennel, is Nobivac Intratrec
01:31Oral BBPI. It's the first and only oral vaccine that provides protection against Bordetella
01:38bronchoseptica and canine para-influenza virus, two of the most common causes of canine cough.
01:44And it's also a great time of year to make sure your pet is up to date on all their
01:48medications,
01:49vaccines, and microchip information. Discuss the options with your veterinarian to determine
01:56which one is best for your pet and use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures
02:01or neurological disorders. You can visit Brevecto.com to learn more about Brevecto Quantum
