00:08Groups of school children have reportedly been taking part in their activities on the streets after school, prompting a strong
00:15warning from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
00:18And the president of the National Parent Teachers Association, Walter Stewart, is urging parents and schools to speak with children
00:25about the potential consequences, warning that what may seem like a harmless fun could instead result in serious injuries.

00:45If the intent was for excitement or social media attention, such risk that can result in serious injury is totally
00:54unacceptable.
00:56Parents should therefore speak to their children about road safety and indicate to them the danger and likely consequences of

01:05For the National Parent Teachers Association, the behavior is a cause for concern and raises questions about what may be
01:12driving children to take part.
01:14The association is stressing that parental supervision cannot stop at the school gate.
01:19Parents must know where their children are, who they are associating with, and what they are doing.
01:26But parents are not the only ones being called upon to act.
01:29Teachers and schools are also being asked to reinforce the message about safety, especially when these activities are taking place
01:37outside school compounds.
