00:00Indians are using a Chinese version of YouTube called Bilibili. It hasn't been officially
00:04released in the country but Indian creators are finding ways to use it. Bilibili was started as
00:10an anime, comics and gaming site in 2009 and has since grown to over 117 million daily users,
00:17according to the company. Indian creators are getting around restrictions with technical
00:21workarounds like VPNs or changing their phone location settings. For small creators, Bilibili
00:26could be an alternative to YouTube which will tighten its monetization policy in February next year.
00:31It's not that the site is better necessarily but it's a new platform and a way to reach new,
00:36primarily Chinese audiences. One creator told the Economic Times that he received over 700
00:41followers and thousands of likes within 15 days of posting on Bilibili. The development comes as
00:47India and China work to improve business ties. Some experts say improving ties may reshape
00:53India's approach to Chinese apps. But can Bilibili work in India where the popular Chinese app TikTok
00:59has been banned since 2020? Let us know in the comments.
