00:00It is Dukes and Bell. Congratulations, Braves country, and we're talking about it with you right now on our postgame,
00:07guys.
00:07And yes, the game is in the books. Braves win 5-3 in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the
00:15eighth inning.
00:16Austin Riley comes through, and Mike, there's so many moments in these games, but we have a lot to talk
00:21about with you.
00:21404-726-0929. I know Lonnie and Jackson wants to join us here, and we'll get to you in a
00:26second.
00:26And real quick, Mike, the recap and what stood out about this game, obviously a clutch moment for Austin Riley.
00:33Yeah, man. We were just talking about how weird it's been the last couple of years for Austin Riley and
00:37these big moments.
00:38You know, Matt Olsen couldn't get things cooking today, and Acuna couldn't. Ozzie did.
00:42But it was Austin Riley with a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth.
00:44And again, Don Mattingly goes with his closer.
00:47And so it's going to be a multi-inning close, a try at least for Duren, and that backfires.
00:52Either way, the Braves get it done 5-3.
00:54I didn't like, and my first impression was Sale getting pulled.
00:57I'm a big Didier Fuentes fan, you know, whatever his role is going to be as a starter or, you
01:01know, closer in the future.
01:02But yeah, it was tough.
01:03Real Muto has been terrible, Carl. Baseball gods.
01:05One for 37. He goes opposite field, and Acuna butchers that ball.
01:09Allows the guy to score from first.
01:10Thought we were in dead ducks.
01:12But unbelievable resolve from the Braves to battle back and get on base at the bottom of the eighth and
01:16get that home run.
01:17Look, this is what we've seen all season long from this team is finding a way to get it done.
01:22And look, I'm with Mike.
01:25When, you know, you get to the eighth and you're like, okay, who's going to be the hero here?
01:30Who's going to come up big?
01:31I would not have told you that it would be Austin Riley.
01:33And that's just simply based on where he's been.
01:36But today, again, three at-bats.
01:39He gets the hit.
01:40He gets the run.
01:40He gets the three RBI.
01:42And all of a sudden, we are looking at game two.
01:45So, guys, big win today.
01:47And we want to hear from you.
01:48I think one thing that will be a question is why did you go away from your ace and Chris
01:54Sale?
01:55And now you win this game, and it becomes, you know, less conversation.
02:00But I do think at the time, a lot of people were saying, Mike, as we were taking this in
02:04here in the studio,
02:06okay, Sale's rolling.
02:08Right.
02:08I get it.
02:09I trust Sale would first and third as opposed to bring Fuentes in that situation.
02:12And that's where this went, you know.
02:14On 95 pitches, by the way, at that point.
02:16Yeah, because Fuente, he inherits those two runners at the corners and then, you know, obviously gives up the hit.
02:22But either way, man, big win today.
02:23Let's talk to Lonnie and you guys.
02:25We want to talk to you about the Braves.
02:27Lonnie and Jackson, thanks for dialing us up on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game.
02:36Hey, man, your phone, you got to reconnect, baby.
02:39Your cell is caca.
02:40We'll get back to you, my man.
02:40Yeah, let's talk to CJ.
02:42CJ, CJ is there.
02:43Let's go to CJ on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game.
02:46Taking your phone calls, guys.
02:47Braves win 5-3 in game one of the NL wild card today.
02:50And again, remember, it's a best of three.
02:52CJ, talk to us.
02:54Hey, man.
02:55Hey, man.
02:57Hey, man.
02:58Watching that game was wonderful.
03:00Like, just to be able to see it and see it unfold from the jump.
03:03So, even though Chris Hill did start to dip in that inning, he still could have gone.
03:08But the way they guys fought, it just reminded me of that World Series, Braves.
03:12We're never down in the dunk.
03:13And we always got something to fight for, man.
03:15And shout out to Austin Riley, man.
03:17He did what he's supposed to do.
03:18He did it last time against them with the triple.
03:21He did.
03:21He came back and smacked him with a whole run this time, man.
03:23I just say, let's keep it going.
03:25Let's go Braves.
03:26Let's go.
03:26Let it fly.
03:27And again, Austin Riley batting 200 for the month of September.
03:29It just looked like it was more of that same flat line after looking a little bit better
03:33after the All-Star break.
03:34But the other story tonight was, this afternoon, Baldwin, Acuna, Olsen combined go 0 for 11.
03:39I know that's going to have to tighten up.
03:40And you've got to support Malley tomorrow.
03:41Right back out of that, too.
03:43You said it, though.
03:44Through the five-inning seat pitch, Lizardo was really good.
03:47I mean, he only...
03:47I would have...
03:47If I'm Madeline, I would have actually rolled with him even further.
03:50But McFarlane did a nice job, won any, and then they decided to roll the dice with Duran
03:54for that.
03:55Again, get him out of his...
03:56If there's a pitcher get out of his comfort zone, we bring him in the seventh.
03:58Well, Mike, this is the second time, and Big O did the research on this, and our crack
04:03executive producer, second time this season, where they've asked him to do this.
04:08So, it's not common.
04:10And this is a guy that's got 33 saves.
04:11I mean, it's not like he hasn't been good, but it's not been the common thing for Madeline
04:16to do this.
04:17And again, you'll look back, Phillies fans will look back and go, what a machine.
04:20Mistake this was.
04:21Either way, I think Madeline was like, we got to try to steal this game, and I'm going
04:25to put him in there for two-plus innings.
04:27It didn't work out in his favor.
04:29Let's talk to...
04:30Lonnie is back.
04:31Lonnie, welcome in.
04:31What's going on, Lonnie?
04:33Hey, thank you.
04:34I've taken my call.
04:35Yeah, man.
04:35I want to congratulate Austin Riley, man.
04:37He could have easily folded up the season he had this year, man.
04:40But, you know, he came all big.
04:41And then I want to, you know, congratulate Chris Hill on the outing he had.
04:45I don't understand why we took him out.
04:47I wouldn't let him get out of that little trouble.
04:48But, hey, congratulate him.
04:50But, you know, I want to say, Double-A did it, thank you, man.
04:53Mike Yastrzemski came through when we really needed him.
04:56You know, hey, the guy we never would have thought would have came through.
04:59Just Yaz.
05:00Hey, give it up for him, man.
05:02Once again, Double-A pulled it off again.
05:03But, wait, we still got another game to go.
05:05And also, and just to double down on your thought, my man, is Walt Weiss going with Yaz,
05:10who didn't have a lot of at-bats against left-handed pitching, against Lizardo, who was dealing.
05:14But Yaz, Walt rolls the dice, kind of like Snicker.
05:16You know, Snicker always had that combination of, I got the data, but sometimes I'm going with my gut, Carl.
05:20Yeah.
05:21I just, you know, I'm old school that way.
05:24And when I covered Major League Baseball, I love managers who said, you'd ask him after the game,
05:29and you'd be like, why'd you make that decision in the lineup?
05:30And they'd be like, that's how I felt.
05:32Well, sometimes you come to the ballpark, and that's just how you feel.
05:36Right.
05:36Doesn't mean that the numbers or everything's going to turn out the way you expected, but today it did for
05:42us.
05:42Braves win, guys, 5-3.
05:43It's Dukes and Bell.
05:44Let's talk to Zach in Kennesaw.
05:46Zach, Braves win.
05:47Hey, man, talk to us.
05:49Hey, man.
05:50Hey, man.
05:51Let's go!
05:52Let's go!
05:54Dude, like, I'm sitting here trying to, like, work.
05:57I got my brother and everybody else hammering me up, like, oh, no.
06:01Oh, man.
06:02And then the emotions roll, like, let's go!
06:04And everyone's going bananas, like, in the office and stuff.
06:07And, look, this is playoff baseball at its finest right here.
06:10And I'll tell you what, like, what, that microcosm of what baseball is, the 200 strikeouts are forgiven.
06:18No one's talking about that.
06:19Today is all about Austin Riley.
06:21He came up big for us.
06:22Chris Sale did his job.
06:24Let's go finish the job.
06:25Put our foot on the throat to the Phillies.
06:27I hate them.
06:28I hate them with a pack.
06:29I'm with you.
06:29Load them.
06:30Let's put them in the dumpster.
06:32You guys are awesome.
06:33Hey, man.
06:34Hey, man.
06:35Appreciate that, brother.
06:36That's now 10 out of 13 on the season.
06:38That's right.
06:389 out of 12 on the regular season.
06:40That's right.
06:40But, again, to his point, you just never know what you're going to get.
06:42Austin Riley, had he not hit that three-run homer, Philadelphia media is going to be
06:46talking about Real Muto.
06:47One for 37 to finish the season.
06:49Has a hit against the Rays.
06:51And then, again, Fuentes deals.
06:52He's throwing that 100-pound-hour cheese.
06:54Real Muto gets the barrel on the bat.
06:55You know, opposite field shot.
06:57Didn't like the way Ronald played that, unfortunately.
06:59But, luckily, you know, Carl, it don't matter because Riley comes up with the heroics.
07:03No, and look, Mike and I were talking about this before this game about the Freddie Clutch
07:10moments and why Freddie is still beloved, and we know he's a Dodger, but the fact is
07:16he had so many of those moments in his career here, it's why he was different.
07:21And, yeah, he's put together a Hall of Fame career, but, guys, in any of our major sports,
07:26the postseason is where legacies are made.
07:27And for Austin Riley, this was one of those moments where you needed it, we needed it,
07:31and he came through for us.
07:33So, Mike, I totally agree, and he is the absolute hero today.
07:37Guys, when you talk about the moment, because if we don't get that, now you're maybe going
07:41to the bottom of the ninth.
07:42You're trying to figure it out.
07:43He came through in a big spot.
07:44It's all about positivity and Austin Riley, and hopefully the team feeds off that, but
07:47Matt Olsen has got to hit because, again, we've moved on.
07:50Carl just mentioned it.
07:51We've moved on from the Freddie thing, but it's always in the back of my mind because now
07:53it's when it matters, Carl.
07:54It's money time.
07:55You're right.
07:55And that was Freddie's time, and Matt Olsen is a .203 hitter in the postseason, and that's
08:00going to drop down a few more points after today, so you need Matt Olsen to get that.
08:04He's got to get it on track.
08:05Hopefully, again, if not in this series, it will help against the Dodgers moving forward,
08:09but let's go out there and not mess around, support Malley tomorrow, but top of that line,
08:13it's got to hit.
08:14Yeah, and I'll be honest with you.
08:15We were in a break when he hit the home run.
08:17We're watching it.
08:18He hit it.
08:19I didn't think it was out.
08:20I couldn't tell.
08:21And then you see the outfielder literally like, okay, it's going past me, and I'm in
08:26here yelling because, to our last caller's point, whether you're in the office today,
08:30you're at home, you're hanging out, whatever it might be, it just felt so damn good.
08:35Right.
08:36I want to beat these guys so bad.
08:38Eric in Stockbridge.
08:39You're on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game.
08:40It's our postgame show, guys.
08:41Braves win game 1-5-3.
08:43Eric, what's going on?
08:45Hey, man.
08:46Hey, man.
08:47Hey.
08:47Big knock by Ryan of the day, man.
08:49I mean, big knock.
08:50And we also broke this day game playoff curse stuff on the Braves.
08:55I know we should be playing no day game anyway.
08:57Right on.
08:57Big shout out to the Braves.
08:59Big shout out to the whole team, man.
09:00I love you guys.
09:01I'm so excited.
09:02I don't know what to do.
09:03I got an asthma attack coming.
09:04I'm saying it's so bad.
09:06Let's go, Braves, baby.
09:07Right on, baby.
09:08Yeah, man.
09:08It was funny.
09:09I was thinking of bringing the cooler in today, the office girl.
09:11They frowned on that.
09:11But now it feels like time to light a cigar.
09:13All right, look, it's only game one.
09:14But you just, this is one that you were down in the dumps after that big, you know, they
09:18got the big triple from Real Muto.
09:21And you're thinking, oh, man, it's that Philly thing again, to the caller's point.
09:24The day game thing again.
09:26And you exercise.
09:27You know, not extra, but exorcise, Carl, some of those demons.
