Water supplies in some East Hampshire villages were disrupted by a burst main on Sunday.
Selborne, Headley Down, Lower Froyle and Binsted were all affected between around 4.30am and 11am.
The Herald contacted The Anchor Inn in Lower Froyle, where a member of staff confirmed it had been without water for “a couple of hours”.
Other parts of the village were also affected, with one resident posting on social media: “Good morning! Residents in Lower Froyle, do you have water? The Anchor seems not to have any.”
The problem extended to Headley Down, where another resident posted: “Anyone else with no water this morning? Nothing in Pine View.”
And a Selborne resident posted: “Has anybody else in Selborne noticed their cold water’s pure white?”
Residents in Binsted posted videos showing the lack of water on Sunday and its whiteness on Monday.
A spokesperson for South East Water said: “We’re really sorry to customers in the Binsted, Selborne, Headley Down and Lower Froyle areas of East Hampshire for the interruption to their water supplies on Sunday, September 27. This was due to a burst main.
“While our technicians were repairing the burst, we moved water around the network and restored water to the customers affected by midday. The burst main was repaired and the network was returned to normal by 2pm that afternoon.”
Advice on the Southern Water website suggested the white water situation was not unusual.
Under the heading ‘What to expect when your water returns’, it said: “Discoloured water from your taps is normal after a supply interruption. This is usually temporary and disappears once the network settles.
“If the water is cloudy and white, try leaving it in a glass for a few minutes to see if it clears. This will be air trapped in the water as the pipes refilled.”
