00:01A car wash worker has been charged with attempting to murder a traffic policeman in Ipoh.
00:0829-year-old Kay Vickness pleaded not guilty to the charge in the Sessions Court on Wednesday
00:13before Judge Nurhayati Muhammad Yunus.
00:16He is accused of attempting to cause the death of Lance Corporal Badrul Izwani Pauzi
00:22by allegedly ramming his car into the officer to evade arrest.
00:26The alleged offence took place along Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab at around 11am on September 24th.
00:35On the same day, police arrested the suspect following a high-speed pursuit near Taman Wing On.
00:41Police allege he crashed through a checkpoint, struck an officer and drove against traffic
00:47before crashing at a traffic light junction.
00:49The crash was caught on dashcam and went viral.
01:03Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Ravina told the court that attempted murder is a non-bailable offence,
01:10but bail remains at the court's discretion.
01:13She proposed 100,000 ringgit if bail was granted, citing the gravity of the offence.
01:19Defence counsel Jagdev Singh asked for a lower sum, saying Vignus earns 50 ringgit a day at a car wash
01:27and supports his parents and two school-going siblings.
01:30He proposed 10,000 ringgit bail.
01:34Judge Nurhayati set bail at 20,000 ringgit with one surety
01:38and ordered the accused to report to a police station every month,
01:42surrender his passport and not tamper with witnesses.
01:46Meanwhile, at the magistrate's court,
01:49Vignus faced eight traffic charges under the Road Transport Act 1987.
01:55They include driving under the influence of drugs,
01:58dangerous driving, fleeing a roadblock
02:01and failing to stop after being directed by a uniformed police officer.
02:06He also faced charges of failing to stop after an accident
02:09and driving without a licence, road tax and insurance coverage.
