00:00Liverpool's Children's Services has moved a long way from the findings that triggered government intervention three years ago.
00:08The government has now formally closed the improvement notice issued in June 2023,
00:13following the latest progress review and the May Ofsted inspection.
00:18An 11-day Ofsted inspection in May found good practice in leadership, help and protection and services for children in
00:26care.
00:26The inspectors said children and families are now better and safer,
00:31recognising focused work to address previous concerns and deliver measurable change locally.
00:37At the inspection three years ago, four of five measures were judged inadequate,
00:43with concerns about delays, risk assessment and work practice.
00:47The latest inspection found stronger social work, a stable workforce and improved outcomes,
00:53with stronger relationships for children and families.
00:56There is still work to do.
00:59Ofsted judged services for care leavers as requiring improvement.
01:03Areas needing attention include support for children who present as homeless,
01:08fostering arrangements and pathway planning and education and training support for care leavers.
01:14Liverpool City Council says it's not complacent and will continue its improvement programme.
01:20The government's welcomed families' first reforms, intended to strengthen support and protection.
01:24The council says progress reflects a stronger focus on listening to children and young people.
