00:00Over the last year, I've met with Jewish New Yorkers across the five boroughs.
00:04I've met with them in their dining rooms, sat with them on the subway, and spoke to them in their
00:09shuls.
00:10Time and again, I've heard the same thing.
00:12Anti-Semitism is real, and it is growing.
00:15Here in New York City, while our Jewish neighbors make up only 12% of the population,
00:20NYPD statistics show that anti-Semitic hate crimes account for more than half of all confirmed hate crimes.
00:26This is not only unacceptable, it's something we all have an obligation to change.
00:30And City Hall will lead the way.
00:33That is why today I am proud to announce the nation's first ever municipal strategy to combat anti-Semitism.
00:39A roadmap for how our administration will confront the scourge of anti-Semitism now and in the future.
00:45We are increasing hate crime prevention funding by $26 million, or more than 800% from last year.
00:51This plan makes a $6.4 million investment in community-based organizations preventing hate
00:57violence, more than doubling last year's funding.
01:00We are restarting the Interagency Security Infrastructure Working Group that was disbanded
01:05in 2024, so that city agencies from the NYPD to the Department of Transportation can work
01:11together to identify threats and protect Jewish New Yorkers before a hate crime occurs.
01:16But our responsibility goes beyond protection.
01:19Jewish New Yorkers should feel cherished and celebrated in the most Jewish city in America.
01:25That's why we are investing millions in Jewish cultural centers and non-profits, including
01:30$2 million for the Queen's Holocaust Memorial Garden and $2.5 million towards Brooklyn Center
01:36for New Jewish Culture.
01:37While these efforts are aimed at protecting our Jewish neighbors, they will benefit all New
01:43Yorkers.
01:43Our safety is bound up together.
01:45The Mishnah teaches us that anyone who sustains one soul, it is as though they have sustained
01:51an entire world.
01:53For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city.
01:56Leonard Bernstein filled cavernous theaters with awe.
01:59Clara Lemlich won rights that protect workers to this day.
02:03Kleinfeld Bridal dressed us for our most special days.
02:06And Katz's has fed us for more than a century.
02:08Today, we hold a responsibility to sustain and protect our Jewish neighbors.
02:13A responsibility that belongs to each of us.
02:17That is the work we are undertaking at City Hall.
02:19And I am asking every New Yorker to join us.
