00:00Is AI the new industrial revolution? Well that's what Andy Burnham said speaking at the Labour
00:05Party conference yesterday. When Britain takes the presidency of the G20 next year I will show
00:12our newfound confidence as a country and I will show it to the world by putting AI centre stage.
00:22We led the world's first industrial revolution from the Midlands and the north of England so
00:28why can't we lead the next? We can conference and we will. With AI adoption on the rise on a
00:34large
00:34scale how are local businesses keeping up? I've been knocking on the door of local businesses in
00:40Rochester asking how or if they use AI in their day-to-day use. One business said they didn't
00:46like the thought of AI and would prefer to create their own content and promote the business themselves
00:51on social media. A team member from another business was indifferent to AI saying that it was going to
00:57happen anyway but other businesses along the high street say they use AI for different things.
01:05For this business AI adoption is still very new. At the moment we can use AI for advertising purposes
01:12but that's basically as far as it goes for us. It's just online apps that we can use to just
01:18sort of upload images and try and work with it to just make our own advertising a little bit better
01:23than
01:23what we could do if it was doing it ourselves. And for this business AI is a tool that helps
01:27with the
01:28easier tasks like research and social media but business owner Glinda is aware of using it too much.
01:34So it's got its place, it's really useful, it can save you a lot of time but it's not foolproof
01:42and it doesn't completely replace that human element. We do use it for some of our social
01:49media posts. So I had an actual image of someone in pirate costume with a parrot and I took that
01:56picture outside of our shop but then I gave that to AI and asked it to generate a social media
02:04post for
02:05me which was an awful lot quicker. In the meantime pressure is on for businesses to remain authentic.
02:12I think what we're seeing then is brands are becoming more conscious about being trusted and
02:17that authenticity and so actually there is a shift away from the automated and sort of generic stuff
02:25which has sort of been out there for a while towards a slightly more personalised touch recognising
02:30you need to be genuine authentic. With the Prime Minister opting for Britain to be at the forefront
02:35of new technological advances, will local businesses be able to keep up?
