00:00how to password protect a PDF file for free in this video.
00:03I'm going to show you how to add a password to a PDF and encrypt it without Adobe
00:08Acrobat. And if this video helps you,
00:10please consider giving a like and also subscribe to my channel because that
00:13really helps me out. So as you can see here, I have a resume file.
00:15I'm just going to use this as an example. If I open that up,
00:18it does not ask for a password to view this PDF.
00:21The tool that we're going to be using to password protect a PDF for free is going
00:24to be PDF gadget.com full disclosure. I made PDF gadget.com.
00:28And I made it because I wanted to be able to recommend a tool that does not
00:31require you to upload your PDFs to a server.
00:33So all the tools on this website work directly in the browser on your phone,
00:37computer, Chromebook, anything like that. And it's completely for free.
00:41Check the description. I'll have a link down there.
00:43Once you get to PDF gadget.com,
00:45just select password protect PDF under popular,
00:47or you can go to more PDF tools in the menu and then select password protect,
00:52give it some time to load.
00:54And then all we need to do is either drag your PDF file here,
00:56or you can select it, find the PDF file that you want to password protect and
01:00select it. And then all we need to do is set our password.
01:03So go ahead and enter your password.
01:06It's going to tell you how strong that password is based on what you typed.
01:09And then just confirm that password, type it again.
01:12Now it's going to encrypt the PDF file to the strongest that it can do on your
01:16device. So on some phones, this may not be AES 256,
01:20which is the industry standard,
01:21but it'll let you know what the encryption level is.
01:23And then all you need to do is agree to the terms here and select protect PDF.
01:29Once it says complete,
01:30you can then download the protected PDF file where as you can see,
01:34it's going to open it up and save it to my computer.
01:37And it's going to ask me for the password. So if I type the password in,
01:41it'll allow me to view the PDF file.
01:43Now, one more thing I want to show you here,
01:45if you want to confirm that your PDF file is password protected,
01:48I recommend opening it up and seeing if it prompts you for a password.
01:51You can also select verify your PDF security right here.
01:55And I've built a security checker.
01:56It'll tell you the level of encryption on your PDF file.
01:59So I'm just going to select this.
02:01I'll select the PDF that I just protected using PDF gadget.com.
02:05And then I'm going to just agree to the terms and analyze the PDF.
02:08And so as you can see,
02:09it says it's protected and that it's encrypted with 256 encryption.
02:13So that's how you password protect a PDF file for free.
02:16If this video helped you give it a thumbs up and please consider subscribing to my
