Your premium LG OLED TV has some default settings that actually make the picture worse. In this guide, we walk you through the essential changes for picture quality, including enabling Filmmaker Mode, turning off Eye Care Mode, and disabling ads for a cleaner experience.

00:00Hey guys, today I'm going to show you the best settings to change on your LG OLED TV.
00:05I'm demonstrating on the LG B6, a great pick linked below if you're interested,
00:10but you should be able to find these settings on any new LG OLED TV.
00:15Let's get right into it.
00:17First things first, we've got to clean up this homepage.
00:21The ads on LG's webOS interface are brutal.
00:24I mean, nobody wants to turn on their premium TV and get blasted by content
00:29they don't care about, right?
00:30Go to settings, system, additional settings, home settings,
00:36turn off home promotion and content recommendations.
00:40Just like that, all those messy, annoying banners are gone.
00:44You're welcome.
00:46While we're in the hidden menus, let's lock down your privacy and kill the rest of those ads.
00:51Go back one step in that system menu, live plus, turn that off.
00:56If you leave it on, your viewing data gets sent directly to advertisers to target you.
01:01No thank you.
01:03Next, screen saver settings.
01:05See screen saver promotion?
01:07Turn that off too.
01:09Now your TV won't try to sell you stuff when it goes idle.
01:14Now that we're ad free, let's talk about picture quality.
01:19The quickest fix to your LG OLED's performance, brightness especially,
01:22is turning off energy saving mode.
01:26Settings, energy saving, toggle from auto to off.
01:30Out of the box, your OLED TV is restricted to achieve certain energy usage ratings that you see labeled on
01:37the box.
01:37And while I love the environment as much as the next person,
01:41this video is about getting the best picture out of your TV.
01:44Turning this off instantly unlocks the true, vibrant brightness of your OLED panel.
01:49And hey, it's easy enough to toggle back on if you're prioritizing your energy bill.
01:54Another well-intentioned setting secretly sabotaging your picture quality is eye care mode,
01:59or reduce blue light on some firmware versions.
02:03It limits blue light to reduce eye strain, especially if you're watching in the dark.
02:07But in reality, it shifts your entire screen to a super warm, muddy tone.
02:12The fast way is to just bring up your quick settings, eye care tile, toggle it off.
02:19If you don't see the quick tile, go to all settings, picture, advanced settings, toggle reduce blue light off.
02:26Listen, if your eyes are genuinely feeling tired late at night, I get it.
02:31But instead of letting a setting turn your premium OLED yellow,
02:35just turn on a dim lamp or add some bias lighting behind the TV.
02:38Keep those OLED colors crisp.
02:41Next up, another tip for getting realistic colors.
02:45Let's make sure movies actually look like movies.
02:48Settings, picture, advanced settings, scroll down and toggle filmmaker mode auto start to on.
02:55Now, whenever your TV detects a movie playing,
02:58it will automatically switch to the most color accurate profile pre-installed.
03:02It's exactly how the directors intended the film to look.
03:05Pretty cool.
03:07While we're here, we've got to talk about motion smoothing.
03:10Or as some people know it, the dreaded soap opera effect.
03:14Basically, the TV tries to inject fake frames into whatever you're watching to make things look smoother.
03:20But instead of looking natural, it makes a multi-million dollar Hollywood flick look like it was shot on a
03:25cheap 90s camcorder.
03:28LG hides this under a setting called True Motion.
03:31Go to Settings, Picture, Advanced Settings, Clarity, True Motion.
03:37Switch it to Off.
03:39You could set it to cinematic movement if you just want a tiny bit of judder control without the weird
03:44artificial smoothness, but that's your call.
03:47Either way, trust me, the second you turn this off, movies will instantly look right again.
03:53You can play around with the rest of the advanced picture settings, brightness and sharpness toggles, etc.
03:59Until you find a formula that makes your eyes happy.

04:15Moving on to some smaller quality of life settings, let's fix the remote.
04:19Look, the LG Magic Remote is solid, but the default cursor speed is hypersensitive.
04:26Sometimes it feels like you're trying to aim a laser pointer during an earthquake.
04:30Let's fix it.
04:31Settings, System Menu, Additional Settings, Pointer Options, Change the Speed from Medium to Slow.
04:38You can also change the pointer size here.
04:41And if you want to get rid of the pointer, you can temporarily disable the pointer by pressing any directional
04:47button, up, down, left or right, on your remote's navigation pad.
04:52The pointer will stay hidden as long as you use the directional buttons.
04:55Next up, let's reorganize your home screen.
04:58For me, I want to bring the inputs to a more convenient location.
05:02Go to your home screen, scroll all the way to the end of your apps and find your inputs.
05:07Hold down the Select button on your remote.
05:10Now you can drag it all the way to the front row.
05:13Do this for your favorite consoles or streaming apps.
05:17While you're here, if you see bloatware apps or realize you have streaming services download you'll never use,
05:22just hit the little trash bin icon above them when you're in this mode to delete them.
05:28Before we leave the home page, move all the way to the left of the screen and then go left
05:32again to reach the widget screen.
05:34Here you can go to the top right, select the pencil icon, and move, remove, or add widgets.
05:40Widgets are a nice way to get easy information at a glance while you are on your home screen,
05:44but don't leave the sun all the time, as you won't want any burn-in.
05:49By default, your TV has a crazy complicated serial number name on your Wi-Fi network.
05:54Let's make it recognizable for AirPlay and Bluetooth purposes.
05:59Settings, Support, TV information.
06:02Click on Device Name and change it to something like Living Room OLED or, hey, have some fun with it.
06:07It is your TV after all.
06:09Now, when you try to cast a video from your phone, you actually know which TV you're sending it to.
06:15Finally, the best thing you can do for your LG OLED TV is keep the software up to date.
06:20Even if you have auto-update turned on, new LG TVs notoriously miss the first update out of the box.
06:28Go to Settings, Support, Software Update, and hit Check for Updates Manually.
06:34Do this from time to time to make sure your TV is always optimized.
06:38And there you have it.
