00:00Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to announce another round of cuts to the military's top ranks
00:05today. The Pentagon plans to cut 20 percent of the positions reserved for generals and admirals,
00:11according to multiple reports. That doubles the overall 10 percent reduction Hegseth ordered last
00:17year, part of his push to streamline the military's senior ranks. At the time, Hegseth said the cuts
00:23were needed to drive innovation and operational excellence, arguing that, quote, unnecessary
00:28bureaucratic layers were hurting the military's effectiveness. As of July, there were 851 active
00:35duty generals and admirals across the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force. The new
00:41cuts are expected to be completed by January 1st. Hegseth is set to lay out the plan during his State
00:47of the Force address at 3 p.m. Eastern at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.
