00:23This is all my life.
01:23This steak, it's four meters high and has been placed in end of July,
01:29to the bottom. It didn't come out of the ice. Now, when we came back here, it was out by
01:37three
01:37meters. So just in August and September of this year, even excluding the heat waves of June and
01:43July, we have lost three meters of ice at an elevation of almost 3000 meters. This is a
01:49glacier that isn't surviving. It is not accumulating any new snow. We can't exactly tell when it will
01:57be gone. But if it continues as it did in the last decade, there will be probably no ice in
02:0410 or
02:05maybe 15 years. Every time I see this, it's just incredible. It's not that we're surprised because
02:11we know how fast the glaciers are melting. But to see the colors of the mountains, where there is
02:17no snow left, there is just these rocks and these dark glaciers that are a relict from the past kind
02:25of. It makes me sad. The glaciers this year, they have lost enormous quantities of ice. In total,
02:34it was 5% less in terms of ice volume. This is almost the record of the year 22. How
02:44can we explain
02:45this? We had two reasons. On the one hand, it was a very dry winter with too little snow. This
02:52means
02:52that the protective layer for the ice was limited and disappeared early in the season. And then we had
02:59these heat waves extending from May to September with record temperatures.
