00:00In Butembo, in Eastern DRC, mourners gathered on Wednesday to bury Marie-Célestin Carandois,
00:06three days after he died following a violent assault.
00:09The UGPS official had publicly defended the response to Ebola.
00:14Family members, colleagues and residents gathered to pay their final respects.
00:19I'm deeply saddened and devastated by the loss of a true fighter.
00:23It's an enormous loss and leaves us speechless.
00:32We're deeply saddened because losing even a single Congolese person is a great loss.
00:38After appearing on Mwagaza Radio, where he discussed Ebola and several political issues,
00:45Carandois was attacked on his way home.
00:48He later succumbed to his injuries, and his house was subsequently set on fire.
00:54His relatives are calling for full investigation into his death.

01:36Marie-Celestine Carandois was laid to rest in his native village in Laburo in North Kivu.
01:42His funeral comes amid continued mistrust surrounding the Ebola response,
01:47as authorities call for greater cooperation with medical teams.
