00:01Hundreds of prisoners in England and Wales are being released early under rules designed to
00:05ease pressure on jails. From the 1st of October eligible prisoners serving standard determinants
00:11sentences can move into community supervision after serving one third of their sentence. The
00:16release tranche is expected to involve 700 people with 4,500 releases across the phased rollout.
00:23The changes can include offenders convicted of fraud, domestic abuse and coercive control.
00:29They will be supervised on licence with electronic tagging expected and restriction zones available
00:35for serious offenders. Rape, certain child offences and unlawful killing are excluded from the scheme.
