Bentley Motors has unveiled the all-new Torcal, the marque’s first fully electric model, at a global debut in London today. Designed and handcrafted in Britain, the Torcal brings together Bentley’s distinctive heritage and uncompromising craftsmanship with advanced electric technology, marking a new chapter for the brand from its home in Crewe.

The Torcal is the centrepiece of a £350 million investment in Bentley’s Crewe site, sustaining 4,000 jobs and marking the company’s biggest step yet towards an all-electric future. The investment has delivered an entirely new production line within the oldest building on the site, dating back to 1938, alongside continued investment in the skills of Bentley’s workforce as it takes on the challenge of manufacturing an electric car for the first time. Fully designed, developed and built in Crewe by the same 4,000-strong team, the Torcal is produced alongside Bentley’s combustion and hybrid models, supported by a network of suppliers from across the UK.

On the road, the Torcal delivers up to 888PS and 1,350Nm of torque – the highest of any Bentley to date – with acceleration of 0-60mph in as little as 2.8 seconds, up to 375 miles (600km WLTP) of range and 10-80% charging in under 20 minutes. The Torcal launches in two forms: the core model and the more sporting Torcal S. It also introduces new sustainable materials to the Bentley palette, including the world’s first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, developed with Somerset weaver Fox Brothers.

00:00So the Bentley Torkel, compared to the rest of the range, is different in the way it is a full
00:04electric car, which gives us a different proportion.
00:07So we still keep that nice balance of overall height versus overall length.
00:12Short front overhang, longer rear overhang, but the wheelbase is longer.
00:16And that longer wheelbase gives us more interior space relative to the overall length of the car, and that's fantastic
00:21for our customers.
00:23So with Bentley Torkel, we have three new materials.
00:26The first one is 100% merino wool.
00:28We've worked with experts in the field to create basically a really high-density merino wool that's both beautiful and
00:36soft, but durable.
00:37Our next material is our ombre walnut veneer, where we have put together different colours of walnut.
00:43We've then compressed them together and sliced them to give a beautiful ombre effect going from dark to light.
00:50And then the final one is our sunburst aluminium.
00:53Influenced from architecture, has a strong pattern that moves around the car.
00:58So Bentley has a fantastic heritage and we want to capture some of that DNA and heritage, but of course,
01:05make modern progressive design.
01:07I always think about kind of looking behind my shoulder, capturing the essence of the heritage, bringing in four or
01:14five different elements in, but of course, focusing on beautiful surfacing, clean design and a modern expression.
01:20But at the end of the day, it has to be a Bentley.
01:23I would say on the Torkel, the thing I'm most proud of is how we've executed the front grille.
01:28Of course, Bentley has got a tradition of open-air grille for the big engines.
01:32We needed to do something different and we created a piece of art using light as the medium, but using
01:38three different sized diamonds clustered together to represent the matrix pattern that was on the original Bentleys from the 1920s.
01:46So we've captured the DNA, but done something completely new and something completely fresh.
