00:05on the cover of Saison magazine. Here I am in my studio in Sausalito, California and I thought
00:11I'd talk to you about my approach to color, how I work and show you around the studio a little
00:16bit.
00:16So I hope you enjoy. For this painting, color temperature was everything. I wasn't aiming for
00:23a traditional landscape. I wanted the cool pink sky against the warmer notes in the trees
00:29to create an autumn feel, a sense of place that feels both familiar and just a little unexpected.
00:37Painting is kind of in my blood. This is a painting my great-grandfather made of his studio in Paris.
00:42He was quite literally an American in Paris around 1900 where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.
00:50Having that connection, especially to France, makes this magazine cover feel extra special.
00:55Back here by the light is where most of the painting actually happens.
