00:00But I believe that this Sunday is fascinating for the Giants on so many levels
00:03because the clock really starts on Jameis Winston.
00:06He doesn't have the excuse of coming in mid-game.
00:09He doesn't have the excuse of bad weather.
00:11And now, even if it isn't immediate with J.J. McCarthy,
00:15there's a threat in J.J. McCarthy.
00:18There's nothing like being challenged.
00:19There's nothing like drafting the Heisman Trophy winner
00:22and saying, go take the running back job away from you.
00:26Which the Giants did for me.
00:28And it wasn't a coincidence that I had my best year
00:31rushed for 1,000 yards for the first time that season.
00:33There is some competition is necessary on any professional,
00:38really any sports level.
00:39It is necessary.
00:40And there is not an immediate threat by J.J. McCarthy
00:45to take Jameis Winston's job.
00:46But there is an implied threat that Jameis Winston is not safe
00:52as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants
00:53for the remaining 14 games of this season.
00:55And that is motivation in and of itself.
00:58Now, is that what's going to drive him to have success
01:02against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend?
01:03No.
01:04I think it's going to be execution.
01:06I think it's going to be Matt Nagy getting more comfortable
01:08with what he's good at.
01:09I think most importantly, this run game has to dominate
01:14at the point of attack.
01:15And they have to make it comfortable for Jameis Winston
01:18to drop back, stand in the pocket,
01:19and deliver the ball downfield.
01:21And do it confidently.
01:22Because we haven't seen him be confident
01:25throwing the ball yet.
01:26It's kind of what we wanted from him.
01:28All right, if you're the backup quarterback
01:30and Jackson darts out for a game or a couple of series,
01:34just go be Mr. Wing It.
01:36Right.
01:36He doesn't even look like he can wing it.
01:38And so I hope his arm's not shot.
01:41But we will find out soon whether or not this is a
01:45short-term risk of J.J. taking his job
01:47or an immediate risk of J.J. taking his job.
