Terry Kennedy has lived several colorful lives, including a stint as a Hell’s Angel – but, most memorably, as the unlikely friend to a giant manta ray named Willy. Now in his 80s, Terry mounts one last diving expedition to a remote island in search of his long-lost friend.

00:14Our first time down there, this giant manta ray came right up to me, and he wants to go for
00:22a ride.
00:26For 19 years, we were best buddies.
00:35We are headed out to seek out a giant manta that Terry has affectionately named Willie.
00:42Terry may have been one of the first people to ride a manta.
00:46Terry Kennedy was sort of a local legend.
00:49I've heard that he's been a biker and been shot.
00:53My whole mannerism changed.
00:55I want him to know that I haven't forgot him.
01:07You know, I've seen a lot of bad things in my life.
01:12But the very best thing that ever happened to me was meeting Willie.
01:18He was always looking for peace.
01:22I feel that the mantas chose him.
01:26We just are beginning to get an insight into what's possible in the universe and what's
01:33possible biologically.
01:35Mexico has just put the giant manta on the endangered species list.
01:39I've got one more shot at seeing him.
01:46I couldn't imagine a better ending.
02:03One more line here.
