00:00With Brazil's presidential elections only two days off, social movements that had been campaigning for their candidates all election season
00:07held the final rallies today.
00:09Our girls, Vanebrea Amir, has more.
00:13On Friday, two days before Brazil's national elections, decentralized groups of activists held small rallies and marches in hundreds of
00:21neighborhoods in towns and cities across Brazil.
00:23In a downtown Sao Paulo neighborhood of Repubblica, an area full of street vendors and service workers, representatives from urban
00:31social movements held their final weekly demonstration of the election season parading through the neighborhood, calling on fellow workers to
00:37vote for their candidate for president, Lula da Silva.
00:41It's what we've been saying, right? The elections, our lives, whose lives? Those of working people, of people who need
00:48public policies and need the government.
00:50And we know that Lula's candidacy represents a people-centered agenda, one that ensures the continuity of public policies and
00:58social programs.
01:00So, it's very important to us.
01:02In a context in which the Trump administration has been openly aggressive to the Brazilian government,
01:07and on a day in which Brazil's intelligence agency, ABIN, announced that the U.S. closure of its consulates and
01:13embassy was a part of a larger psychological operation in partnership with Silicon Valley tech companies,
01:19To undermine Brazil's elections, the subject of U.S. imperialism in Brazil seemed to be on everybody's minds.
01:27We're going through an election process.
01:29But this election has a very specific, different character to it.
01:33First, we saw the attack the American government carried out against Brazil.
01:37It wasn't aimed at President Lula.
01:40It was aimed at the Brazilian nation.
01:42When you impose a massive tariff hike, when you threaten the country's rare earth minerals and its natural wealth, that's
01:49a threat against the Brazilian people.
01:51This Sunday, millions of Brazilians will come out to the polls to decide about the future of their nation's development
01:56model, natural resource usage, and national sovereignty.
