00:00The 2027 Bolt is the greatest hits of GM technology, and at an MSRP starting under $30,000, where will
00:06you find a more affordable EV?
00:09They say the Bolt is the perfect formula of affordability, range, technology, and practicality.
00:14This car has been completely reimagined with more range, faster charging, and cutting-edge technology.
00:20So without further ado, now it's time to put the 2027 Bolt through a series of challenges to see if
00:25this truly is the ultimate electric vehicle.
00:28We got our hands on a pre-production Chevy Bolt so that I was able to show off the 2027
00:33model today.
00:36Let's check out the newly updated interior for the 2027 Bolt.
00:40We know that customers love the roomy hatchback design, and we listened.
00:44In the new car, you still get the same hatch that opens up, allowing full access, and then we have
00:50hidden storage down here that actually allows you to stack bags, suitcases, you name it.
00:55Throw down the seats here, and you open up even more ability to haul whatever it is that you want
01:00to haul.
01:01And then on the exterior back here, before we go to the up front, we did move the taillights from
01:06down here to up here.
01:07That was a direct request from the customers.
01:09So there is an all-new battery in the 2027 Bolt, but it's in the same position it was as
01:14the outgoing car.
01:14So that means that there's plenty of legroom in the back seats because you don't have that transmission tunnel like
01:20a gas-powered car would have.
01:21It's all flat and completely easily accessible from either side.
01:25The side body panels here will look familiar.
01:27There isn't too much difference from the outgoing car, but it's the interior up front that is completely redesigned.
01:33The interior is all-new for 2027.
01:35And the first thing you notice is this all-new driver display, and it's completely customizable, which means you can
01:40add different readings and gauges to the display here.
01:44So some of the most notable changes on the interior are first the 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen, which
01:50is just loaded up with more information than you need.
01:53There are two storage compartments over here above the glove box that allows you to just throw stuff, grab and
01:58go as you please.
01:59Cup holder down here, cup holder up here, and then we actually reconfigured the shifter to move it up to
02:05the steering column, giving so much more space down here.
02:07Wireless charging pad right here, heated, ventilated seats, a new fixed glass sunroof that opens and closes.
02:13Despite all of this added technology, it is still a compact, efficient, and affordable EV.
02:22Here in Southern California, it's all about getting to the beach, your kids, your parents, your gear.
02:28So let's see how well we can fit everything in the car.
02:31As you can see, the 2027 Bolt holds all of our gear.
02:35Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a beach to get to.
02:42So, of course, the most important and interesting part about the car is the way that it drives.
02:46So let's take this thing for a spin and see what it can do.
02:49And I'll tell you right off the bat, I can feel one of the key benefits of an electric vehicle
02:55is that you get access to the car's full horsepower right at zero RPM.
03:00So hitting the throttle from a stoplight, the car just wants to scoot, which is kind of fun.
03:06The 2027 Chevy Bolt has a GM estimated range of 255 miles.
03:11It is an all-new battery.
03:13It's an LFP battery, which means an all-new chemistry.
03:15But they've positioned it in the same location in the last car, which means that center of gravity is in
03:22the ideal spot to keep the car just feeling like it's on rails.
03:26It's low.
03:27It's integrated into the frame and the chassis.
03:29And it's just, it's remarkable that the engineers were able to optimize everything around the battery to make it really
03:36serve the driving dynamics of this car.
03:38And because the car has regenerative braking, we're able to actually improve the efficiency or increase the efficiency rather and
03:46extend our overall range.
03:48Regen is amazing.
03:49It basically uses the electric motor and the kinetic energy of the vehicle to capture energy when you let off
03:56the throttle and dump that energy right back into the battery.
03:59And it adds a remarkable amount of range, especially if you're going downhill for long periods of time.
04:04You can actually watch the gauge on the battery state of charge increase, which is pretty cool.
04:12Right off the bat, I can tell you that it's, it's silent.
04:15I don't hear anything at all, which is kind of cool.
04:18Well, that's one of the inherent benefits of driving an EV is no gas motor, no transmission, no running gear
04:25that you would normally hear winding as you accelerate.
04:27That's pretty cool.
04:29So it's not just the interior that's all new.
04:31The battery is all new and this actually shares the drive unit with the Chevrolet Equinox.
04:36So the ability to share parts that way and with the new battery chemistry, it allows us to package this
04:44thing full of technology, but still maintain that affordability.
04:49This is definitely a road trip car.
04:51It is so smooth and so quiet.
04:53Also new for 2027 is much faster charging.
04:57In fact, this will charge up to speeds of 150 kilowatts.
05:00The battery is 65 kilowatts.
05:02So that means if you get down to about 10%, you can bump up to 80% in just 26
05:07minutes.
05:08That is fast charging.
05:09This is why we pay rent in California driving through the palm trees.
05:14It's a sunny day.
05:15I have no tailpipe emissions.
05:17What's not to love?
05:21So we've been cruising for about 10 miles now and I haven't put my foot on the brake pedal once.
05:28That's one of the really cool benefits, just like if you're considering total cost of ownership, you're using the electric
05:34motors to slow down the car and recapture the energy to increase your range.
05:39So we're making our way over to the lake and it's interesting, you'll hear engineers talk about N, V and
05:45H and they're always trying to optimize or work towards N, V and H.
05:49That stands for noise, vibration and harshness.
05:52And with this electric car, you just have none of that.
05:55There's no noise, there's no vibration, and the harshness is just non-existent.
06:04So I've noticed that it's been unusually quiet driving around town in this electric car.
06:09So I have my homie in the back who has a decibel reader and we're going to measure and see
06:14exactly how quiet it's been.
06:16It's at 46.3 decibels.
06:19That's pretty quiet.
06:20That is a refrigerator hum.
06:22I'll take it.
06:23How quiet is it now?
06:2455 decibels, which is about a desktop computer fan.
06:28So no running gear, no exhaust.
06:31All right, I'm going to try to get us up to 30 miles per hour.
06:34Let's see what the decibel reading is at that speed.
06:37The highest we went up to was 63.4.
06:4063.4, so that's not bad for a full acceleration.
06:43All right, for our final noise test, we're going to kick it up to 60 miles per hour.
06:48Here we go.
06:5360.
06:55We're at 65.7.
06:57That's not bad.
06:59That's the most we've been at the whole time and we're on a bumpy road that really isn't smooth or
07:03quiet.
07:05Building on the Bolt's lightning legacy as one of the early, affordable, long-range EVs, the 2027 car takes everything
07:13that drivers have loved and just makes it better.
07:15More range, more power, faster charging, and more technology.
07:19The car will arrive in Chevy showrooms in early 2026.
07:23So what do you think of the new Chevy Bolt?
07:25Let us know in the comments.
