A snowy morning in Greece turns a landscape photography outing into a test of patience at the stone bridge in Kipi. Driving through the Pindos mountains, the photographer stops in the village to capture one of the 250-year-old stone arch bridges while the sky stays flat, gray, and uninspiring, yet the winter scene still offers strong graphic shapes and mood.

Slippery paths, fresh snow, and a fast-changing stream shape the shoot as the camera is set up for stills, a possible black-and-white conversion, a three-shot panoramic, and close-ups of frozen rocks and icicles in rushing water. When the snow starts falling harder and the roads become difficult, the day ends early, with more photography planned for later in the week around Pindos and the Vikos Gorge.

Ideal for fans of landscape photography, winter travel in Greece, mountain scenery, and behind-the-scenes photo fieldwork. It also suits viewers looking for a calm photography vlog, a stone bridge photo location, or a virtual trip through snowy Greek villages and the Pindos mountains.

00:00so good morning I drove up yesterday from Meteora to a region called Zagori in the
00:08western Pindos mountains and I've come down this morning to a village called Kipi which
00:14is just up here behind me and it is very well known for the traditional stone arch bridges
00:22such as the one you can see down the stream here behind me and so I've come down to photograph
00:29it
00:29the only problem being that we have snow forecast today and the sky is totally totally flat gray
00:39uninspiring as you can see all the way around so we'll see what we can make of it
01:04so

01:24so
01:29so
01:32so
01:41so
02:01well that was very slippery on the rocks there on the ramp coming down
02:12I practically came down on my backside sliding down because it was the safest way
02:20so I'm just trying to make my way to the river now
02:27and see if I'll be able to make anything of this bridge
02:40again once again there's a massive tree growing across the water there
02:47which kind of blocks the bridge so I'll see if I can make it across to the other side somehow
02:58um still it might be interesting anyway I'll uh set the tripod up and have a go I guess
03:06we'll see
03:07we'll see
03:08we'll see
03:08we'll see
03:38OK, so I've set my composition and I've set my ISO T160 at f11 and I'm shooting a two-minute
03:52exposure.
03:53I've got on the front a power-rise introvert to cut the flexions of the surface of the screen
03:59as well as my 10-stop neutral density focus to give me that long exposure so I can really smooth
04:05out this water.
04:07And we'll see what that gives me a little bit more.
04:16The first few snowflakes are starting to fall so this could make it even more interesting.
04:34So I'll just recompose by a slightly different composition.
04:51Adjust the polarizer again for the movement to get rid of that reflection and expose it in.
05:15I might even convert that into black and white because it's a very dark scene anyway.
05:22It's pretty graphic as well with the grey stone of the bridge and the cliff behind
05:28and the trees looking bleak as well with the snow covering them.
05:32I think it might make a nice black and white image but we'll see that later on.
05:50Okay, so I've got the camera just shooting one more exposure.
05:55I'm going to try doing a three-shot panoramic so I get this curve behind me of wall with the
06:03water underneath
06:04and then the bridge just there as well.
06:07So I'll do a three-shot panoramic and see how that turns out as well.
06:12Before I do move on to the next location what I thought I might do,
06:15there's a couple of rocks here in the stream that have frozen and have got nice little icicles.
06:22So I might try and do a long exposure of one of those with the icicles dripping as well
06:26and the water rushing around them so we'll see how that turns out as well.
06:44Let's have a look at that picture on the back of the camera.
06:48And that looks pretty nice.
06:52What I might do is focus stack it so that this rock as well is sharp and this one.
06:58So I'll do another couple of shots focusing firstly on this one and then on that one as well
07:03because at the moment I've just focused on the ice which is just there.
07:06So we'll retake that and see what that looks like.
07:17Okay so I've refocused on the nearest rock and then it goes again.
07:24And then I'll repeat the process refocusing on the top rock.
07:40Okay so the snow is starting to come down a little bit more heavily now.
07:44So as soon as I'm done taking this shot of the icicles on the rock and the water,
07:53I'll make a move to my next location.
08:27Well I'm back in the car again and unfortunately the snow is really coming down now
08:33and settling pretty fast even on the roads which is making it very difficult driving conditions.
08:40So I don't think I'll be able to get to any of the other locations to do some more photography.
08:47It's not actually, photographing in the snow is not the problem.
08:50The problem is actually getting to those places.
08:53So I think I'm going to have to call it a day here and head back to the hotel
08:58and spend the rest of the afternoon processing up these images and putting together this video.
09:04So hopefully you'll see those images in just a second.
09:08And if I can I will stop off along the way, try and get an extra image or two.
09:15So thank you again for watching, thank you for subscribing and liking my videos.
09:20And don't forget to ring the bell if you'd like to receive notifications of the next video.
09:27There will be more videos coming up from this location in Greece and others.
09:34Tomorrow is forecast to be bright sunshine.
09:37So with any luck we'll have a nice fresh layer of snow, beautiful sunlight and should make for some lovely
09:43photos.
09:44So I'll see you then. Thanks for watching. Bye.
10:09Bye.
10:33Bye.
