00:00The most people don't know the complicated process necessary for New York City to obtain water.
00:06Even New York City is surrounded by water, it is incapable of using water.
00:10It can't use the water of the East River,
00:12because it's not really a river, but an estuary tidal
00:15which pushes and pulls out of water saline non-potable through the different sides of the ocean.
00:20The Hudson River is a legitimate river,
00:22but it is completely non-potable, because it is actually part of the ocean.
00:27So, to find where New York City gets its water,
00:30you'd have to drive around 160 km to north-west
00:33to find a series of exclusive reservoirs designed
00:36to store water for New York City.
00:39This water is transported to New York City
00:41through two of the longest and the largest aqueducts of the planet.
00:45The first is the aqueduct of Catskill,
00:47a series of tunnels, tunnels and siphons,
00:50capable of moving half a billion gallons of water per day.
00:53And the second is the aqueduct of Delaware
00:56which is a single tunnel continuous of 136 km.
