00:19The best plains of the Juzakh region in central Uzbekistan are marked by dry earth, sandy stretches, and a horizon
00:26that seems to go on forever.
00:28Then, almost unexpectedly, the scenery changes. A vast expanse of water appears. This is Lake Tuzkan, part of the wider
00:36Aydar Arnazai Lake system. In a region defined by distance and open space, the lakes create a very different landscape.
00:44We are standing on the shores of Tuzkan, one of Uzbekistan's largest lakes. What makes it remarkable is white trees
00:51between the hungry steppe and the Kizilkum desert. Here, a vast volume of water strides across one of Uzbekistan's driest
00:59landscapes.
01:02For visitors, the contrast is part of the experience.
01:31For generations, people leading around Tuzkan have also relied upon the importance of the heritage of Tuzkan.
01:35on the lake in more practical ways. Fishing remains an important source of income, while tourism is creating new opportunities.
01:56The resort is located on the shore of neighboring lake Aydarkul, part of the same lake system.
02:22For some visitors, a day by the lake turns into an overnight stay. Accommodation ranges from conventional rooms to less
02:30familiar options.
02:31The resort is on the east coast of Tuzkan, the historic resort.

02:43The transports are in the past, and we have a more standard of the desert.
02:49We have a better way to provide the resources of our natural homes with the west.
02:54Managing a busy recreation area also means keeping visitors safe, especially when thousands of people
03:00arrive over a single weekend.
03:23Beyond the busy weekends, the story of this landscape
03:27goes back much further.
03:29To understand the lakes as we are today, it helps to look back.
03:34Toscan is an ancient natural lake, but the landscape we see today
03:38has also been shaped by people.
03:41Water management and irrigation transformed the region in the 20th century,
03:45connecting Toscan to the wider Aydara-Nossai lake system.
03:50For a place that can still feel remote, access is beginning to change.
03:54New transport links are expected to make the area easier to reach,
03:58an international airport and railway station are being built near the resort.
04:03It's unexplainable how much nice it is.
04:06And the lake is really nice, active.
04:09There is an airport which will help promoting the lake much, much better
04:16and to let people come and see through this airport and visit this resort.
