00:00In that second stint, we're ready to go racing, there are 50 minutes on the clock, the race director Trevor
00:04Williams, if he's happy with the formation, will give the signal that we can change the lights to green and
00:10go racing as the field then comes now out of turn 14, heading up towards the line, we get ready
00:17to go racing then as the field accelerates away now and it gets very very crowded in the middle there
00:21as Ionello try to go for a gap that wasn't really there I don't think, but through it all, not
00:26a great getaway from pole position by Callum Davis and it's going to put my
00:30Michael O'Brien into the lead of the race, a really good getaway by Ben Malryan in the DTO car
00:33there, number 11, who's gone all the way up into second place from the fourth row of the grid, others
00:38go wide and then you've got to stay within that escape road and a big, big off there, one of
00:43the SMC cars comes across the road and absolutely annihilates the car that was on that escape road, so there's
00:49a big, big coming together down at the exit of turn 2 and as the field accelerates its way now
00:56around the hairpin at 4, I fear the safety car is going to go down.
01:00To be deployed, let's have a look then and see who we've lost, I think Harry Burgoyne was involved in
01:04all of that and possibly also Alessandro Farby, so I think it was Farby who was on the escape road
01:10and Harry Burgoyne may have had a tap to be off the circuit, so what a difference a day makes,
01:15safety car is indeed deployed but a winner yesterday and then eliminated at pretty high speed, pretty dramatically at turn
01:232 less than 24 hours later, so big, big drama for Harry Burgoyne and Alessandro Farby.
01:28And to take Farby first, he's had hardly any luck at all this year.
01:33Incredible, we've talked about Farby and how much pace he has, a lot of speed shown over the season and
01:38just not been able to get the result, I'm not sure what happened there David, he could have been an
01:42innocent party on that, but yeah, that did look like Farby's car and the number 68 and Burgoyne, such a
01:50great result yesterday as you mentioned, but obviously a very, very terrible way to go out of the race on
01:55lap 1.
01:56Yeah, we'll make sure they're alright and then have another look, but Alessandro Farby minding his own business, having to
02:02rejoin on that escape road, if you overshoot turn 1 you have to stay within that white line, so it's
02:08a safer rejoin, but you can't legislate for somebody having their own incident and getting onto your part of the
02:13circuit, so real, real shame that.
02:16With your other hats of driving standards advisor, you may end up having to review that later on to see,
02:22as you say, exactly what was the catalyst for it, not necessarily why Farby was on the escape road, but
02:26how Burgoyne ended up heading across the road.
02:29So at the end of the lap, Michael O'Brien leads, but what about Ben Mulrion's start, because he was,
02:32as I said, on the fourth row and in second place at turn 1.
02:35Great start, and to be honest, I didn't pick him to be one guy actually starting that well, I knew
02:40Alessandro would be very racy and he was, and there was a bit of contact there at the beginning, there
02:44right at the start, so we have to look at that as well, what happened there really.
02:47So the safety car slows everybody down to go through the incident zone, and the order then is Michael O
02:55'Brien from Ben Mulrion, Christian Brooks in the car that he shares with Lagim Ali, that car running in third
03:02place.
03:03Callum Davis dropped to fourth, it wasn't a great start by Callum, and then fifth, having his first race, because
03:08he missed out yesterday, the French F4 racer Thomas Senaclos, with sixth Alejandro Herbert, the Spanish driver, former champion.
03:18And he's leading Pro-Am ahead of Matt Higgins in the car that he shares with David Coelho, and then
03:23John Lancaster, who's made good progress from the eighth row of the grid.
03:27So one or two people being able to really launch themselves well and keep out of trouble, but real shame
03:33that we've lost Burgoyne and Fabi.
03:35Yes, Heper there, excellent start, he was tenth on the grid and now up to sixth already, so obviously really
03:41for a young lad, very good mature hair there at the start, and gained some position.
03:45You can't say the same for Ayanello, who we knew was going to be racy. He lost a lot of
03:50positions there. At the start, he was fourth on the grid, and he's now tenth or ninth.
03:55Well, he's the tenth, yes, so he's a lot of loss there, and Ayanello really needs to be careful. He
04:00is a contender for the championship. He needs a strong result here.
04:03Absolutely, yes. He sort of went for a gap that narrowed, and I wonder whether he picked up any damage.
04:07Certainly because of the little bit of contact, he had to sort of lift, didn't he, and that would have
04:11affected his pace somewhat.
04:12So that car falls back. So the field now turning down through turns six and seven.
04:22As they do so, there you can see number 12. That's the car of Ferdinando Daria.
04:28So Daria, one of those within the Pro-Am contest. That's the Pro-Am leader, Alejandro Hepat, sharing with the,
04:39as it says on the wing end plate, super sweet, Eric Behrens.
04:46And the last few cars making their way up out of turn nine. So no change, of course, in the
04:51order while we're behind the safety car.
04:52The race continues, albeit under control conditions like this, which enables everybody to sort out the incident down at turn
05:01one, turn two area of the circuit.
05:03Michael O'Brien, much underrated driver still, but put him into a GT3 car. He can win, as he's proved
05:10in the British Championship.
05:10Put him in these, he can win. And these are sort of GT4 Plus, aren't they? They're very, very rapid
05:15cars.
05:16Oh, absolutely. There are a good couple of seconds ahead of a GT4. And really, they sit between GT4 and
05:22GT3 in terms of pace.
05:24And yeah, we're talking about, you know, on the plus side of 600 horsepower once they use the push to
05:30pass button.
05:30So they're very, very, very rapid machines.
05:33And also McLaren Trophy, certainly in Europe this year, looking at bigger numbers and the racing's been ever more competitive.
05:39And this is now finding its place, isn't it?
05:41As somewhere that, yes, the gentleman drivers can come and enjoy themselves, but it's a good career launching pad.
05:46You know, we've had Jadon Kelly as a champion now running in GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
05:51There's an American series now.
05:53And Giorgio Sanna, who's the head of McLaren Motorsport, was over at Suzuka for the Intercontinental GT Challenge race at
06:00the start of September.
06:01And taking an interest and pondering whether there might be a market there as well.
06:05So more and more McLarens on track.
06:09So the field with a, just finishing off my McLaren point, there's a support race at Le Mans next year
06:15as well as McLaren comes into hypercar.
06:17Lots of enthusiasm, lots of interest for McLarens in motorsport.
06:21Now, let's have a look.
06:23There's a lot to unpack here.
06:25So that's the first bit of contact as Ainello went for a gap that closed.
06:29And that's really where Callum Davies lost momentum.
06:31Ben Mulrhyan, in the meantime, has gone all the way around the outside of them.
06:34And then the road just opens up and there's an enormous gap on the outside.
06:38So he goes for it.
06:39And then he gets a little bit busy further back.
06:40Now, keep an eye on the white car, first of all.
06:43There, the second of the three on the escape road.
06:44That's Farby.
06:45And then others get up the kerb.
06:48And then all of a sudden, Burgoyne gets turned across the front and hits Farby very hard indeed.
06:54Was it contact behind Burgoyne?
06:56I didn't see contact.
06:56Possibly.
06:57Possibly.
06:59Looks as though the car got sort of turned across the front of others, didn't it?
07:03So he may have been tapped or he may have been going for a line that didn't quite work.
07:10Anyway, sad to say he is going no further.
07:14Largin Ali's car currently third.
07:16Christian Brooks at the wheel.
07:18Largin Ali watching on.
07:19And Largin is with Bryn Lucas.
