00:00Hello.
00:03I think that's a valid point.
00:04You want me to talk irresponsibly about Miles Garrett?
00:09I have seen more and more people bring up that,
00:12hey, we're getting a pass rush and we don't have Miles Garrett.
00:15I guess my thought is, yeah, and if they had Miles,
00:17they'd be getting even more.
00:18Like, I don't know why we assume now,
00:22like, what, we were doing it wrong the whole time
00:24when he was dominating?
00:25Would the Browns be 3-1 if they still had Miles Garrett
00:29on this football team?
00:30Yeah, of course.
00:31Not sure.
00:33What?
00:33Not sure.
00:35Oh, I got to hear this.
00:39Miles Garrett, you know what?
00:41Let me say it like this.
00:44This may just have been the best time for everybody involved.
00:47It's not a knock on Miles.
00:49I'm not going to speak irresponsibly or disrespectfully
00:53towards Miles Garrett.
00:55It might have just been the best time for everybody involved.
00:58I think you were thinking I'm going to be really excited over there.
01:01Or you were going to be really excited to hear me
01:03shoot my mouth off and make an idiot of myself.
01:06Especially with Supreme Company in the building today.
01:11I was going to shoot my mouth off in front of everybody.
01:15I'm not being irresponsible or disrespectful towards Miles Garrett.
01:19I think hearing what Daniel just said in that rejoin that we just had
01:23in that interview we just had with Daniel,
01:24Yafusi, ESPN.
01:26I wonder if this was the best time for everybody.
01:29You know, when you don't have Miles Garrett on your team,
01:32when you don't have somebody there, it makes you sharper.
01:36Now, this is a long way to go in this season.
01:39But when Daniel talks about how young they are,
01:41just let me kick around a theory here.
01:43Okay?
01:44Now, again, the bottom can drop out on this any time.
01:47They are a thin team.
01:48They still need depth.
01:50There's definitely gold in them there, Hills.
01:52Andrew, you know, we're going to have to have a referendum
01:54on Andrew Barry here soon about where we're standing with Andrew Barry.
01:59It's starting to work with Deshaun a little bit.
02:00The young guys are playing well.
02:02You know, we still are probably talking about a different quarterback
02:05in 2027 as of this moment.
02:07Do you trust Andrew to do those things?
02:09But as of right now, things are hunky-dory.
02:12Things are great.
02:14And it's not about Miles being bad for the franchise,
02:18turning him into a bad guy, talking trash about him out the door.
02:21Just hear me out for a second.
02:23Maybe it was best for all parties involved that they had this separation.
02:27And before, it was, well, it's going to be best for the Browns
02:30because they're going to get a first-round pick back,
02:32and they got another first-round pick back in Jared Verse.
02:36And that's going to be best for their future.
02:38I mean, that's the way we sold it to ourselves
02:40when they made the trade with Miles Garrett.
02:43But now you're 3-1.
02:44And Daniel says, boy, this team's so young.
02:46They're really naive to the way that the Browns have been since 99.
02:50And, you know, we talk about John all the time.
02:52John's a 24-year-old young man.
02:53He doesn't know about the struggles and strife
02:55that the Browns have gone through for 20-something years.
02:58And we're just like, well, you'll learn.
03:00Well, hold on.
03:01If you're playing for the Browns, do you have to learn?
03:05Like, Miles, you do what you can to change it,
03:09but once you can't change it, sometimes you let it wash over you.
03:12And I wonder if Miles at some point just washed his hands of it
03:15and goes, you know what?
03:16I signed my deal.
03:17I'm going to let this thing wash over me.
03:19And maybe that's not the right way to go about business.
03:21Not that Miles was a bad guy.
03:23Not that Miles was a terrible teammate.
03:25Hear what I'm saying.
03:27But once you get to the point of this team isn't going to do well,
03:31we are languishing here, but they offered me more money than God.
03:36I have to sign this deal.
03:37I'm going to go out and get mine.
03:38That's not really good for the ultimate team sport now, is it?
03:42Now you have young guys here, and they don't know any better.
03:46They don't know that this season is supposed to go to hell
03:49the way that so many seasons have.
03:51And it still could.
03:52It's only October 6th.
03:54But you need that culture switch.
03:57You need that change.
03:58For Miles, when he gets back healthy,
04:01maybe he's reinvigorated by a team that already had established Super Bowl culture.
04:06For us, we're trying to build it.
04:08All right?
04:09And now we have some wins now,
04:12and we have more ammo to keep continuing to rebuild that
04:15or to build it again in the first place,
04:17depending on how you see things, without Miles.
04:20That's kind of what I'm looking at here.
04:23That the best deals are always made.
04:25You look in business, the best deals are always made.
04:27They're mergers.
04:28They're not acquisitions.
04:30And I look at this, and I go,
04:32hey, this might have been best for the Browns.
04:34It might have been best for the Rams.
04:35They didn't trade for the guy to finish in the middle.
04:37And we'll see what happens with him when he comes back from injury.
04:40I mean, I think that a lot of what you said,
04:43I'm not even disagreeing with.
04:44They're basically starting anew because there's a new defensive coordinator as well.
04:48And I know a lot was talked about.
04:50Zone versus man in that opening week.
04:52Since then, I mean, you know, there's plenty of man.
04:54I mean, they led the league this week, again, in man defense.
04:57And Aaron Rodgers had moments, just like Bryce Young had moments.
05:01But our pressure is just too much to overcome, including Baker.
05:05Baker would tell you the same thing.
05:07The pressure has been too much to overcome outside of the Jacksonville game.
05:10With that said, I mean, their defense had been dominant with Miles.
05:15It wasn't like their defense was falling apart because he was chasing sacks too much.
05:20No, it wasn't.
05:21Their defense was still good.
05:22But did you expect a significant drop-off without Miles?
05:25Did you think there would be?
05:26I expected a drop-off without Miles and Jim Schwartz.
05:29Okay.
05:29I mean, I did.
05:30And there really hasn't been so far.
05:32Yeah.
05:32Okay?
05:32And they played well against Carolina.
05:34You know, I sit there and I say, Denzel Ward has been tested.
05:37Denzel Ward has passed with flying colors.
05:39Denzel Ward has to be more on his marks.
05:41And Denzel Ward's a tremendous player.
05:43He could have been a Hall of Famer had they made the playoffs a little bit more, to be honest
05:46with you.
05:47You have other guys in that defense, in that secondary, that we're excited about, okay?
05:52Like, I thought there would be a time where we really miss MJ Emerson.
05:56And we, again, it's still so early in the season.
05:58These words may come back to bite me a little bit.
06:01That's why, you know, I'm, notice what I'm saying here.
06:04I'm not trying to, I'm not trying to beat around the bush.
06:08I'm just trying to remain respectful and not silly.
06:11Like, yeah, you're better with Miles Garrett.
06:14Everybody's better with Miles Garrett.
06:16But not having Miles Garrett, has it made all the young guys have to step up their play?
06:23Has it made all the young guys have to pay that much closer of attention?
06:28I'm not talking about the example he said or anything like that.
06:31It's just when you're on the field and you got 95 out there, it does make your job a little
06:36easier.
06:37And you got eight there, and he's a fine enough player.
06:39I know that he's off to a slow start for everybody, including myself.
06:42But he's a fine enough player.
06:44He ain't 95, and that means that you got to pay closer attention to things.
06:48You know, you got rid of your security blanket.
06:51And so now you got to be a little bit sharper.
06:54And for him, you know, people are looking to you for leadership.
06:58And if you're not that leader, if you can't, if you're just, if you're tapped out on vocal leadership,
07:04if you're tapped out on being that guy, then yeah, change of scenery is best.
07:09Maybe it was just best.
07:10We're seeing this now.
07:12Maybe it was just best for all parties involved that miles goes to L.A., we get something in return,
07:19and here we are.
07:20We're a three-in-one football team.
07:22We're one of the surprises of the NFL.
07:24Like, I'm just trying to put two and two together.
07:27It's still early.
07:28It's still very early.
07:29But I think that if you continue to do well, because you go schedule, schedule, schedule, schedule, schedule, schedule.
07:34They all have us circled on their schedules, too.
07:37Well, and here's the thing, I was looking forward to seeing them and the challenge against Lamar, but Lamar may
07:43not even play.
07:44We'll know more maybe probably tomorrow.
07:47Yeah.
07:47When it comes to that with the Ravens game in a couple of weeks, it's Geno Smith this week.
07:51All right, Geno has put up numbers, as you guys have noted, but it's Geno Smith.
07:56Then it's Cam Ward.
07:58Okay?
07:59After that, it's on the road against the Steelers.
08:02Now, we know, historically, that's been a lion's den for us.
08:06I understand that.
08:07Listen, there's going to be some losses here that we're going to have to come in on a Monday and
08:10talk about.
08:11I get that.
08:12They're not going to finish 16-1.
08:14But, damn, this is off to a much better start.
08:17And, you know, we're all looking for reasons why.
08:20And to sit there and say, like, I know we went over the national perspective before.
08:24I think that they're still betting on the long term where Deshaun Watson comes back down to earth.
08:30And his earth is a very rocky place when it comes to quarterbacking.
08:35But if I just ask him to play complementary football and I can have a little bit of health luck
08:39here.
08:39Like, we took a couple of knocks back on Thursday.
08:42Mike Hall got banged up.
08:43Mason Graham got really banged up there.
08:45If we can keep a little bit of health here, you know, maybe we can win a few more games.
08:49Well, maybe a lot more games than a lot of people thought we were going to do.
08:54Like, that's kind of where my perspective is.
08:55It's not about being disrespectful or irresponsibly ripping on Miles Garrett.
09:00It's just about the right place, the right time, the right trade partner to make it all work.
09:05And maybe we're both in better positions because of that.
09:08Because I hear him say about the youth and I go, you know, when you're young, you look for leadership.
09:13You look for a mentor.
09:15It's natural to do that.
09:16He's a guy who's been in the league for 10 years.
09:18But if he's kind of like, yeah, this is how it goes.
09:22That's tough.
09:24I wouldn't you much rather look for a guy like Carson Swessinger or Jared Verse?
09:30Wouldn't you much rather look in that direction?
09:32A guy who's going to be a loud dog for you?
09:34I mean, no, I still want Miles Garrett on my football team.
09:36But I'm talking about emotionally, Anthony, emotionally.
09:39I do think, you know, we'd like to have the perfect package of a guy that dominates and is a
09:44great vocal leader
09:45and is somebody the fans all love and have never asked for a trade.
09:48We didn't have that.
09:48But, you know, we just didn't have it.
09:50But to act like Jared Verse is in the same stratosphere as Miles is not the case.
09:54I'm not acting like that.
09:54I'm not acting like that when it comes to the actual play.
09:56I'm not.
09:57You know that.
09:58Don't turn it into that.
09:59Now you're going to get me mad.
10:00I'm not trying to do that.
10:01It's just I don't want us just because Miles is gone and I'll say everything is so much better because
10:05Miles is not here.
10:05But I didn't say that.
10:06That did not come out of my mouth.
10:07I do think people would take that away from what you're saying.
10:10No, they shouldn't.
10:11And now I'm glad you made me specify you shouldn't do that.
10:15But I'm trying to look for logistical reasons, not logistical.
10:20I'm trying to look for logical reasons.
10:22They're three and one other than just quarterback play because there's a lot of people around Cleveland going,
10:26don't count your chickens, guys.
10:28Okay.
10:29You're looking for sustainability.
10:31I know you don't like the guy, but I'm looking for things that are sustainable.
10:35That's what I'm looking for.
10:36And it can't just be QB, QB, QB, QB, QB.
10:40Coming up in five minutes.
10:41I want to get to some of these people.
10:42And what's in the box?
10:44We have a box here.
10:45What's got a bow on it?
10:47There's a card.
10:49We got something from another school that we're going to do an unboxing with.
10:52We're going to have to report this to the IRS.
10:54This almost looks too nice.
10:57Also, who do you blame for yesterday?
10:59Ken Carman, Anthony Lyme, live in the family.
