Blender 5.0 not looking good completely removed native built-in COLLADA
Transcript
00:01Hello, hi, welcome. Welcome to MMP Content. Welcome to Blender 5. Now this is not Blender 5, if you look
00:09down here in the right hand corner. This is version 364. Why am I using this version? Because my game
00:17that I'm building is called Red Band Alley.
00:19A very young girl who goes off on a quest. I'm running into a few problems at the moment. Compatibility
00:27issues. That's what they are. I've downloaded the new version of Blender. I'll jump over to Google and I'll show
00:35you. I'll move it over a factory.
00:36So we go to Google. Right. And I'll type in what happened to Collada. See here? Collada. Okay. Well, who
00:49actually made Collada? Well, it was made by Sony. Great.
00:55And if you look down here somewhere, just here, it says it's also used by Adobe. Great. If you want
01:05to pause the video, you can pause it and read it. This is a little search that I've done on
01:09Google. I think in here, great.
01:11Looked over here. It says, check this out. Blender version 5. Completely removed the native built-in Collada. Import and
01:25export, I think. What? You totally removed it? Come on, Blender. It should be available if you want to use
01:33it. And I'll show you.
01:35Yeah. Blender's starting to come a bit like Windows. Yeah. Like Windows got rid of the 3D viewer. And if
01:45you manage to get hold of it, because it's still available. If you get hold of it in certain places
01:51and you install it, yeah, it works. You can see the model. But you can't create the animation menu because
01:58it doesn't work.
01:59Because when they updated the 3D viewer, they removed the FBX part of it. And the FBX part of the
02:103D viewer in Windows made the model animation work. But anyway, Windows. So if you want to watch that video,
02:17go and watch it.
02:19So I'm saying, how come all the big companies that married Blender, Adobe, Microsoft, you know, all the legacy software?
02:29How come to get rid of it? Or let's say the native built-in?
02:34How would you want to look? How would you want to word it? Where's the support?
02:41I'm thinking, okay, let's go here. As I said, I'm going to really think about Blender. Because I'm thinking, there's
02:47no point in me building a game book.
02:49And I'm using a certain file form. Now, I'll show you the file. If you go here. This version here,
02:553.6.4.
02:57If you go here, import. Look at your list. This is what you can bring in to Blender.
03:04Now, when you open up version 5, I think there's about six items here. That's it. Come on.
03:14Yeah, it's... Anyway, I'm saying the import in Blender 5. It's absolutely horrendous. It really is.
03:21Now, all of my models, let's say, are Colada. And I'm going to show you this. Because that web page
03:26is just there.
03:28This one here. If you read down in. I know they're using the new file format. Just want to get
03:33a look.
03:34It's called Glyft. Right? G-L-P-F. Yeah, I use those as well.
03:41But, the problem with the Glyft file is not as great as Colada.
03:47If you do the model, yes, it's perfect.
03:49But, if you add a skeleton to your model, inside the new Glyft files, I'll show you.
03:57I'll show you how to do it. See here? Glyft file.
04:00Yeah. Colada has been replaced with that.
04:03I think that's... Yeah, that's good. And that's better.
04:07Because when you put a skeleton in Colada, it keeps all the skeleton together.
04:13And the model knows exactly where it is.
04:16This one down here, when you put a skeleton in there, and then when you animate it the second time,
04:23or the third time, and so on, the more times you animate it, yes, your skeleton just falls apart.
04:31I mean, what? Yeah.
04:32This one turned your skeleton into spaghetti.
04:37That's what it is.
04:38I mean, it's great.
04:39Yeah, I like Colada.
04:41Because Colada just works.
04:42Colada is great.
04:44It's about as great as OBJ.
04:45OBJ is the best.
04:47That's what I'm going to tell you.
04:49The difference between them is that OBJ keeps the textures and the skeleton and the mesh completely separate.
04:58Okay.
04:58Colada keeps the mesh, keeps the skeleton, and keeps the textures separate.
05:06And this one, okay?
05:11Did it work well?
05:12Yes.
05:13That keeps your mesh, your skeleton, and the textures all in one package.
05:19But it destroys your skeleton.
05:23Yeah.
05:24Go and try it, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
05:25So, for making an object that's a character, like a cat, a woman, it doesn't matter, I don't save it
05:33as a glyph holder, because it doesn't work.
05:36And if you try to import that into a game engine, yeah, you will notice that the model goes in.
05:44But for some reason, even though it saves the skeleton, whether it's good or bad, the game engine doesn't realize
05:53that there's a skeleton inside the file.
05:57Yeah.
05:59Absolutely kind of no good.
06:01So, I'm thinking, okay, Colada.
06:03That's it.
06:04Do we know what I'm talking about before?
06:06Because if you go here, it says it's got security issues, and it's also got compatibility.
06:12Compatibility.
06:13See here?
06:15Compatibility issues.
06:17Compatibility issues, right?
06:19And it's got security issues, of course.
06:21Everything on the planet has got security issues.
06:24So, okay, this is what happens.
06:26Let's suppose I want to keep the box as Colada.
06:29If I go here, export it as Colada.
06:32Honestly, it's absolutely pointless.
06:35It's okay at the moment, because I'm using 364, I can take it out, and I can bring it back
06:41in.
06:42But, of course, if I want to work on the model, in the newer version of Blender, okay, I'm just
06:49going to go here, and just delete that.
06:51Now, this is what happens.
06:52Watch.
06:53You can export it, you can go back here, and you can bring it back in.
06:57Now, you see how it's an easy, simple prototype is?
07:00Okay, now, obviously, all of the files, you export, the Colada does it, WBJ does it, and the Glyph file
07:08does it.
07:08The FBX in Solar Blender, yeah, FBX in Blender is an absolute nightmare.
07:15It really is.
07:16Most times, you can't even export it.
07:18You really can't.
07:21As I said, this is just my review about Blender version 5.
07:25As I said, the thing you can do in here, you can't do in version 5.
07:30That's why I'm showing you version 364.
07:32Because if you want backwards capability, this is better.
07:39So, whichever format you're using, whichever file you want, I'm going to recommend, for compatibility issues, your models will convert
07:49all of your files, all of them, back over to the OBJ, which is the legacy file.
07:57Now, that's used by almost every factory, every bit of software on the planet.
08:04So, yeah, you might as well forget everything else.
08:07Because if you start using this one, or this one, or this one, or this one, eventually, the companies themselves
08:14are going to turn around and say, oh, it's got compatibility issues, it's got security issues, and it's no longer
08:24supported.
08:26So, yeah, all of my work, for my Blender game, yeah, was almost completely endless.
08:36Honestly, it really was.
08:37So, yeah, so now I've got to go back to the drawing board, so to speak, and kind of think
08:43of a different way to build my red pad, Danny, can't they?
08:46Well, luckily for me, I know how to make it compatible, so I don't have to go back and do
08:56a lot of work.
08:58Because, yeah, I only have to change certain parts of it.
09:03It's just a really, truly inconvenience.
09:06As I say, there's no reason why Blender and the other companies can't leave Collada exactly where it is.
09:15As I say, if I were to pick any 3D models on the planet, yes, I would choose OBJ, and
09:24I would choose Collada, and everything else, I would get rid of it.
09:28Because it's absolutely pointless.
09:31Stay safe, keep friendly.
09:33Good honest review.
09:34See you next time.
09:36Bye.
09:37Bye.
