00:45And on Tuesday Kenya confirmed its first Ebola casualty after a Kenyan citizen who had traveled from the Democratic Republic

01:00Hello, welcome from the south. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dresos Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the news.
01:19In Cuba a ceremony was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Barbados crime, during which the commitment to
01:25remembrance, justice and peace in the face of the injustice of terrorism was reaffirmed.
01:29The event was organized by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the peoples and included the participation of representatives from
01:35the diplomatic corps of Barbados and Grenada, who paid tribute to the 73 victims of the attack on Cubana de
01:41AviaciĂłn Flight 455.
01:43Those in attendance reaffirmed their commitment to peace and recalled that the attack had a profound impact not only on
01:50Cuba but on the entire Caribbean.
01:52Furthermore, they condemned and rejected the constant aggressions by the United States against the Caribbean nation and its people.
01:58Likewise, the participants paid tribute to the Cubans who died with dignity in Venezuela on January 3rd when the Donald
02:04Trump administration kidnapped President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores.
02:14And Cuba's General Customs Office has introduced new regulations, flexibility on personal imports to boost domestic supply and streamline trade
02:22amidst external economic pressures.
02:25Under Resolution 340, citizens who exceeded standard non-commercial import limits will now have the option to import excess goods
02:33for commercial purposes by paying progressive tariffs in foreign currency.
02:37Finance Minister Vladimir Regeiro outlined a tiered tariff structure ranging from 15% to 30% depending on shipment value.
02:45Authorities framed the sovereign policy measure as part of ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the long-standing U
02:51.S. economic blockade, protect internal supply chains and modernize national trade mechanisms.
03:14After advancing to the runoff, President Luis Ignacio de la Selva and far-right Senator Flavio Bolsonaro resumed their campaign
03:21activities on Monday amid a tight race for victory.
03:25The electoral calendar begins on October 5th with the official restart of the presidential campaign as Lula and Bolsonaro seek
03:31to mobilize their bases and win support from voters whose candidates were eliminated from the race.
03:38Television campaigning will begin on October 9th while the first televised presidential debate could take place on October 11th.
03:44On October 24th, the campaign will officially conclude marking the final day allowed by electoral authorities for public events and
03:52straight mobilizations.
03:53Finally, the decisive day will come on October 25th when Brazilians will head to the polls for the presidential runoff.
04:06And as Brazil heads to a runoff after that tight first run, our special envoy in Rio de Janeiro, Belen
04:11de los Santos, has sought reactions to these results.
04:14Let's see.
04:16The first round in Brazil closed with far-right Flavio Bolsonaro in the lead over President Lula da Silva by
04:22a margin of just under two percentage points.
04:25Both now head into the runoff with the odds favoring the Liberal Party.
04:32It was alarming. We didn't imagine that there would be this result. We knew it would be tight, but we
04:37have hope too.
04:39Sadness, depression, suffering. It's very, very bad to find yourself in a far-right country where the candidate in front
04:48of you is a bad person.
04:52I'm happy. I'm younger, but with a lot of experience in the market, with a lot of hope. Speaking of
04:57Lula and Flavio, my vote is Flavio.
05:02Although the turnout was similar to recent elections, many see the key to the runoff in the tens of millions
05:08who did not vote.
05:11I believe we have to look for those who didn't vote. The abstention rate was very high. There were 33
05:16million people who didn't vote.
05:20Others say that campaigns' abilities to communicate clearly will be decisive in winning back people's confidence.
05:27We need to hear. We want the candidates to express their positions and tell us what they have to offer.
05:35For the left, the path is particularly steep. Still, with less than three weeks to go and a margin of
05:41less than two points, many are ready to intensify their efforts.
05:46I would like to have hope to try to fight, to change these votes, to try to show people. But
05:51my belief is that people don't want to see. They really chose this path.
05:57We need to change this picture. We can't give up the game. There are 20 days left. We have to
06:02think day and night, minute by minute, and move forward. We can't give up the militancy.
06:07The Brazilian runoff will take place on October 25th to decide the next president of the region's largest economy.
06:15Belen de los Santos, for tell us your English from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
06:21And students at the Federal University of Fluminense in the state of Rio de Janeiro protested on Monday against presidential
06:27candidate Flavio Bolsonaro
06:28and in support of the re-election of President Lula Silva one day after the first round of the presidential
06:33election.
06:33The call to action was issued by the Evaristo de Vega Academic Center at the UFF School of Law with
06:40stated that the shock and astonishment at the election results must turn into a movement
06:45and calling people to organize, occupy public spaces and remain mobilized ahead of the runoff schedule for October 25th.
06:51The mobilization took place approximately 24 hours after the results of the first round were announced.
07:05And the Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, reported that all stages of the electoral
07:11schedule ahead of the October 18th popular consultation are being carried out as planned.
07:16During a press conference, Cabello highlighted that the territorial deployment is advancing alongside the people, strengthening participatory democracy.
07:24In addition, he noted that more than 37,000 projects have been registered through coordination among community councils, commune and
07:32condominium boards.
07:33In this regard, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela Secretary General recalled that the June 24th earthquake worsened damage in
07:40some residential complexes,
07:41prompting the national government to launch a pilot plan to address these cases.
07:45Furthermore, Cabello stated that the efforts seek to provide communities with direct and organized solutions.
07:57And the Venezuelan government has added 150 megawatts to the national electric system as part of the progress in strengthening
08:03the country's power generation capacity.
08:13Recently, we brought the Termozulia 5 generation unit into operation.
08:17This is part of the plan announced in recent days.
08:20And with it, we are adding 150 megawatts to the national electric system with a direct impact on the Zulia
08:27region.
08:28This is aimed at benefiting the people of the state, and we continue working toward that goal.
08:40Let's now take our first break.
08:42Remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and
08:46more.
08:47We're going to be right back. Don't go away.
09:04Welcome back.
09:04The Spanish government approved on Tuesday emergency measures to address the housing crisis after an outbreak of violence in the
09:10coastal city of Barcelona the previous night that drew tens of thousands of people into the streets.
09:15Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's government approved measures similar to those rejected by Parliament last Friday, which prompted his call for
09:21early elections on November 29th.
09:23The measures will be sent for notification by an interim legislature known as Permanent Commission, which remains active until the
09:30elections.
09:31This way, the government is using the Parliament dissolution amid the snap election process in a new effort to pass
09:37the overturned housing decrees that mainly proposed eviction protections for vulnerable households without alternative housing and a mandatory extension of
09:44residential lease agreements through 2028.
09:47The new decrees, which maintain the essence of the rejected laws, will be now examined in a special parliamentary council.
10:03As you are aware, the Cabinet has approved two royal decree laws, which, whilst incorporating certain additions that we consider
10:11to be very positive, retain the essence of the two royal decree laws that lapsed in the plenary session of
10:16the Congress of the Parliament.
10:17We have done so because the circumstances that led to these royal decree laws being introduced have not changed over
10:24the past two days and, therefore, these royal decree laws would, of course, benefit ordinary people in terms of access
10:31to and protection of housing.
10:33Por supuesto, en lo que representa el acceso y la protecciĂłn a la vivienda.
10:40And in Spain, clashes broke out between police and protesters in Barcelona during a mayor rally in support of the
10:45right to housing.
10:47Police repressed on the protest, which took place one day after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that the early general
10:53elections would be held on November 29th, after Parliament rejected measures to combat the housing crisis.
10:58A wave of protests erupted in various cities across Spain following the first eviction of September 23rd, Marie Carmen Abascal,
11:05an 87-year-old woman, was evicted from the Madrid apartment where she had lived for 70 years.
11:10An investment company had purchased the apartment and was demanding a rent increase that the retired woman could not afford.
11:26And student protests in France reached their 19th day this Tuesday and have now spread throughout the country.
11:33The protests, which began with demands for more teachers, better facilities and greater resources for public education are affecting thousands
11:41of high schools.
11:41On Monday, there were 413 roadblocks, protests or incidents, a number that has tripled in just a few hours for
11:48today.
11:48According to the Ministry of Interior, as of Tuesday morning, 24 schools have been set on fire or damaged.
11:5578 education sector workers and 215 students have been injured and nearly 5,000 arrests have been made.
12:02This escalation highlights the unrest existing in classrooms but also throughout the country.
12:07high school students have been joined not only by college students but also by various unions that support their demands.
12:20And protesters gather outside Japan's National Diet in Tokyo on Monday, demonstrating against Prime Minister Sanaita Kaishi and her government
12:29security policies.
12:30The protesters opposed plans to expand Japan's military capabilities, adjust security policies and revise the country's pacifist constitution.
12:39Some also called for the government to halt the deployment of additional missiles and other weapons.
12:44The demonstrations came as an extraordinary session of the Diet Open, with lawmakers set to debate issues including a proposed
12:52cut to the consumption tax and a reduction in the number of seats in the House of Representatives.
12:57Meanwhile, protesters voiced concerns over plans to revise the country's key security documents, with some calling for Takaishi to step
13:05down.
13:05Defense and security are expected to remain central issues as the Diet session continues through December 12.
13:22The real danger lies not in the trivial bills currently under deliberation in the National Diet, but in what lies
13:29behind them, which is that the cabinet led by Takaichi is seeking to revise security-related laws to expand military
13:35capabilities.
13:37We must not allow Japan to commit aggression against Asia again.
13:45I believe the Japanese public does not want the government to purchase so many weapons, such as the continuous deployment
13:51of missiles in Kyushu and Okinawa.
13:53There is simply no such demand among the Japanese people.
13:56So, I expect the government to halt this action that prioritizes military build-up.
14:04An impulsion after a month of protests, over 1,000 workers remain on the streets demanding their labor rights.
14:11Our correspondent Dan Albright brings us details.
14:17More than 1,300 workers at Encore Boston Harbor here have now been on strike for a month.
14:23Workers represented by Unite Here Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25 are bargaining together.
14:29They say that at this five-star resort, they should have the same wage standard already won at Union Hotels
14:35across Boston.
14:41We made this place a five-star resort.
14:44It's not the stockholders. It's not the managers. It's these people. Day in, day out. We work.
14:52Wynn has kept the property open during the strike using temporary replacement workers,
14:57managers performing bargaining unit jobs, and non-union dealers taking overtime in other classifications.
15:04My own managers were happily telling me that they were going to be bartending or doing any of the other
15:12jobs, like cleaning restrooms and stuff.
15:14Workers say Wynn has still not moved meaningfully at the bargaining table.
15:18Wynn says its union workforce averages more than $95,000 a year in total compensation,
15:24and that wages and benefits have risen faster than revenue.
15:28Encore still generated about $847 million last year at this property.
15:33Part of Wynn resorts more than $7 billion in global revenue.
15:38Labor researcher Steve Strifler says both unions have shown a willingness to strike.
15:43He says Local 26 also draws strength from high union density across Boston hotels and deep organizing between contract fights.
15:52I think core to it is sort of a deep commitment to organizing, making sure they're engaged, involved in the
15:58union.
15:58And then they sort of essentially draw the line and say, look, if we don't get these demands, we are
16:03sufficiently organized that we are going to go on strike.
16:06And then they follow through.
16:07If we don't get it! If we don't get it! If we don't get it!
16:12Accommodation and food service workers recorded more work stoppages than any other US industry last year.
16:19One month in, house worker and picket captain Amore Rivera says the strike will continue as long as it needs
16:25to.
16:25We're not going back until we get all we're asking for.
16:29One day longer! One day longer!
16:34From Everett, Massachusetts, Stan Albright, Telesaur, English.
16:40And on Tuesday, Kenya confirmed its first Ebola casualty after a Kenyan citizen who had traveled from the Democratic Republic
16:47of the Congo died in Nairobi.
16:48According to Kenya's health minister, Adendoale, the patient had been ill for about a month before traveling by road from
16:56Congo to Uganda's Kabiru Kampala and then flying to Nairobi on Saturday.
17:00After arriving at Nairobi's International Airport, he passed through health screening and was later taken by a relative to Nairobi
17:08Hospital where he was admitted with fever, chills and bleeding beneath the skin and was quickly placed in isolation.
17:15The man died late on Monday and buried later under protocols designed to prevent further spread of the virus.
17:28And in New York, in the northeast of the United States, a state of emergency was declared in response to
17:33a measles outbreak that has already reached 108 cases so far this year.
17:38Governor Kathy Hochul reported that 92 of the cases have been detected since July 15th in 18 counties.
17:44The outbreak has also spread to Pennsylvania where 977 cases have been reported.
17:49As part of the measures, vaccinations against measles, mumps and rubella must be reported to state or city registries within
17:5672 hours.
17:57In addition, testing may be conducted for suspected cases and pharmacists will be able to vaccinate children as young as
18:03two years old.
18:03The state of emergency will remain in effect until November 4th.
18:14And Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to a record low according to new opinion polls as Republicans prepare for
18:20next month's midterm elections.
18:22A Reuters-Ipsos poll puts Trump's approval at 32% with support declining among independent and Latino voters who backed
18:30him in 2024.
18:31The polling also shows growing support among Latino voters for a Democratic-controlled Congress while just 24% approved of
18:38Trump's performance.
18:39In this context, Trump dismissed questions about the numbers on Monday, saying he was doing great, blaming media outlets for
18:46the reports.
18:47Meanwhile, Trump has been traveling across the country to campaign for Republican candidates.
18:51At the same time, some Republicans have begun to distance themselves from the president on issues such as immigration as
18:58they work to maintain support ahead of the midterm elections.
19:28Israeli forces demolished a five-story residential building.
19:31Israeli forces are building where 70 Palestinians lived in occupied East Jerusalem in the presence of the Southeast Minister of
19:36National Security, Itamar Benvir.
19:38While soldiers carried out raids throughout the West Bank, according to local authorities and media reports,
19:43the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has documented the demolition of some 170 Palestinian structures in
19:51the occupied cities since early 2026,
19:53mostly citing the lack of building permits issued by Israel, which it says are nearly impossible for Palestinians to obtain.
20:00Local and international human rights organizations assert that Israeli authorities severely restrict building permits for Palestinians in East Jerusalem while
20:09continuing to demolish homes and illegally expand settlements.
20:18And Israel continues to sign its genocide against women and girls in Gaza.
20:23According to the United Nations, the genocide of perpetrators are killing 47 women and girls every day in the Gaza
20:28Strip.
20:29Data released by Palestinian and international organizations confirm that Israeli genocide of perpetrators have killed more than 38,000 women
20:36and girls in the Palestinian enclave since October 2023.
20:39According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, more than 11,000 women and girls have been injured since then.
20:46A report by Physicians for Human Rights documents 2,600 abortions in the first quarter of 2025 and 220 pregnancy
20:53-related deaths.
20:5457.1% of pregnant women registered during that period suffer from anemia and about 40% of pregnant and
21:01breastfeeding women suffer from malnutrition.
21:03In 2026, while the so-called ceasefire was in full effect, 3,958 spontaneous abortions were already recorded.
21:26In Russia, a Ukrainian drone attack left two people dead and nine others injured on Tuesday in Moscow and several
21:32towns in the region.
21:34Russian authorities reported that Air Defense Forces shot down 185 drones in 16 municipalities.
21:40Among the victims is a 71-year-old man whose body was found among the rubble of a destroyed home.
21:45The attack also caused damage to dozens of homes, a residential building and several vehicles as a security measure.
21:52Moscow's four airports imposed temporary flight restrictions for its part.
21:57The Russian Defense Ministry reported the interception of 868 drones in various regions of the European part of the country.
