00:14hello and welcome to the highlights of game one of this LG Cup India South Africa the two big
00:19teams in this tournament but this was the day the two African teams met Zimbabwe versus Kenya game
00:25one of the LG trophy now in tournaments like these the pitch often has a big role to play
00:29Jeffrey Boycott mentioned that it was very dry to start off and that can often have a huge influence
00:34on the game but first let's take a look at the toss with the two captains here's Tony Kozia out
00:40here with Alistair Campbell the captain of Zimbabwe Maurice Adumbe the captain of Kenya and the ICC
00:44match referee Mike Dines for the toss Maurice Adumbe is gonna toss Alistair Campbell calls heads
00:51and heads it is Alistair you're gonna have a bowl you'd rather chase would you yeah I think I mean
00:59obviously it looks like it's gonna be a good batting deck all day but you know we're gonna
01:03have a bowl first get what early moisture that there is I think it's gonna pan up into quite
01:06a good deck in the afternoon and it's also good in our first game to put our batters under some
01:10pressure chasing a target last time I saw you were in Singapore for that tournament with India and West
01:14Indies disappointing time there what have you done since we've had a 10-day intensive camp not
01:19only training but on the mental side of the game as well and hopefully we've got some of the
01:23inconsistencies we had there in the in the bowling department got that right get our batters more
01:27consistent hopefully you can put up a bit of performance here anyone new come into the side
01:30since then yeah we've got a few changes Craig we shot had to have a knee operation so he's out
01:36we've got a couple of new fast bowlers that have come into the side to try and strengthen them give
01:39them a crack as well and one new better to take which I was placed in the form of Gavin
01:43Rennie well
01:44it's gonna be exciting to see them all the best thank you very much honey well Morris back as captain
01:50of Kenya and excited about it yeah in a way but being the underdogs is never easy you know because
01:54you
01:55have to prove a point all the time but I'm happy to be back and of course you're playing at
01:58home in
01:59front of your own people so that's even more pressure yeah and they expect us to do better
02:04especially against Zimbabwe today but you know as I say we just go there and do our best you'll be
02:08batting first any difference to you bat first or chase no actually we wanted to bat fast because it
02:13looks like the week is going to turn later on so I don't mind watching first what have you been
02:17doing since the World Cup as far as cricket is concerned I've just been playing our league matches and
02:22uh we've not done anything really uh since the World Cup so are you informed players are confident
02:27yeah they are confident we've been training hard we've been playing against the local professionals
02:32here and things look pretty good Morris Udombe thanks a lot thank you to me so there it is then
02:38Alistair Campbell has sent Kenya into bat and that's how Kenya line up Otieno and Ravindu Shah then Steve
02:44Ticolor Morris Udombe Hitesh Modi the all-rounder Thomas Odoyo Sheikh Ababu making his debut then the two Suji
02:51brothers and Jimmy Kamande to complete that lineup Zimbabwe Johnson and Flower Goodwin Andy Flower
02:58Alistair Campbell that's a solid core then Stuart Carlisle and Guy Whittle make it a very good sort
03:03of late middle order then Blenio Strang Whittle and the newcomer Mutendera interesting then that
03:10Morris Udombe said he would have preferred to bat anyway let's see how Kenya get along as we pick up
03:15the highlights of this game there it is straight away out seam if he doesn't swing it in the air
03:25he'll
03:25probably move it a little bit off the pitch as he's done on this occasion and it's going to go
03:36all the way
03:38so the first runs off the bat beautifully stroked through the covers
03:57now I was just saying that for six overs three at each end they hadn't given the batsman anything on
04:05the leg side and then Johnson bowling a bit too straight about middle he gets worked beautifully through the
04:12left side gone second slip takes the catch and not an easy one because the ball was being played towards
04:24the onside by OTNO so the second step fielder very good win would have got a late sight of it
04:31but he took
04:32the catch comfortably and can you lose their first make it for 21 beautiful delivery from Johnson finding
04:44the outside edge looking to play it on the onside so that was a very difficult catch so OTNO departs
04:50for
04:50seven the first key and we get to fall with the score 21 halfway through the ninth bowler
04:58new bats for another experience the Kenyan Steve tickle oh comes in with the loss of the first wicket
05:10opening up the batsman to Johnson straight to second slip he had to bubble it didn't go straight in and
05:16stay
05:16there and cracked away beautifully played he's played some fine shots already in this short innings
05:23and that's the first ball ready for Lutendera which has been short and put away beautifully
05:30Lutendera a little bit unlucky having had a catch dropped off him the previous over he just
05:35bowls this a bit short a bit wide and sharp very quickly onto that onto the back foot beautifully
05:41controlled head over the ball timing perfect and that flies away to the boundary on this very fast outfield
05:55short again and put away again this time in the opposite direction for more so Lutendera dropping
06:01short and the show very quickly onto both of those deliveries with the cut and the pole
06:10two short deliveries from David Lutendera he conceded just eight runs off his first four overs and he's
06:18just doubled that in the first two deliveries of his fifth over back-to-back boundaries
06:31gone straight through
06:34so three boundaries in the over from Lutendera struck well but went straight through
06:40and you really would expect the Zimbabweans to feel that they set such high standards for
06:44themselves they'll be disappointed 34 for one after 10. Johnson continues and Kenyon already beginning
06:54to pick things up here lovely shot off the legs and the outfield is fast enough it will go so
07:01three
07:01boundaries in the last over a boundary up the first ball of this one and the Kenyan innings are suddenly
07:06beginning to take off and the crowd as well loving it they had to support their team and we've seen
07:13some lovely shots none better than this over pitched by Johnson timing that almost to perfection
07:27that's a good back that shot spotted the leg very very quickly indeed and Shah puts it away for four
07:36so
07:37the end of the over 43 for one lovely straight drive they really are playing some very handsome shots the
07:50Kenyans
07:50and none more handsome than that straight drive for four 48 for one
08:01well that's beating everyone keep the bet beat the keeper it's gone for four buys and the 50 up for
08:08Kenya
08:16and the flower just letting it go through didn't keep his legs together
08:25lovely shot standing up on his toes oh my goodness he's really played some magnificent strokes this morning
08:34and certainly none better than this it was fractionally short
08:41in the show I had to just wait a fraction he whites and times it beautifully too short outside your
08:50stump and
08:51tucked away four ones put a whip there and too short from Andy little that will take some of the
09:02pressure away because he's told well Andy Vittle
09:06just trying to get the ball to turn a little bit more but we've seen that every time the ball's
09:10given a bit of air the ball turns but if it's
09:12ball flat doesn't quite turn full toss from Paul Strang and this one is cracked away between the backwards square
09:25leg in the mid wicket big gap there
09:27and that was well punished well that is the gap that they've got to look for
09:32I know it'll mean playing against the turn but Paul Strang hasn't got too much on in fact this is
09:37a full toss
09:41and there really was picking the spot where he wanted to hit easy pickings
09:50and he's got that one away for four in fact
09:54past the short third man and that takes him to his 50 in fine style
10:01his fifth one day international for kenya
10:13and that took him 61 balls 11 falls high proportion of boundaries very well played
10:20indeed and what a way to get to that half century waited till the very end
10:26for the ball to turn to do its thing and then adapt it for a boundary very good in exact
10:39and he's hit that very well ball just dropping inside the ropes we already got onto that one
10:47well it's a deliberate lap slog we almost uh put down the pitch
10:53hit it between the two men out on the boundary one in front of square one behind
10:59we're not uh top players but it was very capable of pushing the scoring along for kenya they now reach
11:06100 with only one look it down at the halfway stage and that's a good base
11:16well he's hit it up in the air but safely now once again a yes no situation second consecutive
11:23ball and i think steve tickolo is in trouble he's out
11:30that one run that they took would in any case register the century partnership it was going for
11:37the second run that steve tickolo was out so the partnership exactly 100
11:45and uh the kenyans lose their second wicket uh confusion again having the previous delivery
11:51total misunderstanding that's a good shot david mutandara does the fielding feels it well
11:58confusion by the batsman steve tickolo running to the striker's end and uh the bails are off but
12:08uh he was a good uh foot and a half out so steve tickolo goes for 33 121 for two
12:14the kenya captain morris odombe comes to the crease kenya well placed 121 for two
12:28it's off the pad and it's uh yes off the pad all the way across the rope so
12:36an angle delivery down the leg side four more to the kenyan total
12:44there's a fielder at uh
12:47he's really square leg not fine leg plenty of ground to cover
12:58it's taking a catch caught and bowled trying to go for the big one ravindo shah
13:08very good reflex action catch by guy whittle
13:18it's a good length delivery shah going for the shot straight over the top but it goes straight
13:27back to the bowler and ravinda shah departs for a very well played 71 kenya one three three for three
13:35it's a modi coming in to replace ravindo shah
13:41that's a quite well out of in the shop
13:45reflex catch by the bowler he really stuck out his right hand it's stuck in the fingers
13:50and refindish all guys
13:58should be runs there this is a fast outfield
14:07very good running between the wickets
14:23he's giving him going right across the line zaidi's finger goes up and a key wicket there as
14:32morris adumbe goes so kenya losing their way even more here with a leg before decision
14:40well it's one of those where it's got to be guesswork on the umpires part yeah
14:45you could say it's a poor shot he plays across the line and but i don't think you can give
14:50people
14:51out just because it's a poor shot it's not an orthodox straight back shot so he should be
14:55disappointed with that because i would be 156 for four
15:01new batsman is thomas adoya comes in now with kenya having lost their fourth picket their captain
15:06morris adumbe being given leg before by zaidi
15:19just couldn't get there peeled off the outside edge and uh trickles to within a couple of inches
15:26at the boundary as they come back for three
15:32well a little bit of fortune here and why not at least he's looked as if he's wanted to put
15:37back
15:37to ball as modi
15:41it skirts off the face there up in the air a long time but you just can't get to it
15:48maybe that's right fortune should favor the brave but i think they've just left it too late
15:53they just don't have enough overs or balls left
15:58that's well struck a magnificent straight hit that's got the crowd alive
16:05absolutely straight down the ground the kind of shot we were watching last evening in the raider cup
16:20lovely footwork just gets down the feet skips down the pitch hits straight through the line
16:27safest shot is to hit it straight rather than drag it across the line
16:39that's gone too took that away and out didn't quite get it on the middle of the bat and neil
16:48johnson runs
16:48around to take the catch crowd cheering while the ball was in the air and very
16:54suddenly went completely silent as a catch dropped into the fielder's lap
17:00well there's an opportunity here to smack this out of the field it was short it just sat up nicely
17:06or he could have rolled his wrists and hit it on the floor but he went for the big hit
17:10and just picked out the fielder in the deep and caught it quite neatly and another way it goes down
17:17170 for five
17:19the new batsman is tony suji there's no time for the batsman coming in now to really settle
17:24five wickets down just another six overs and two balls remaining so a job here for suji to do
17:37swept away a long chase around but he won't get there this is just what uh kenya need now boundaries
17:45in the closing five overs
17:51well it's been the most productive shot as this leg side hit
17:57against the left arm spin into the bowl is rough get the foot down and try and hit it somewhere
18:02on the
18:03leg side just in front of square or behind square down the wicket again
18:11and long on is in position so just the single
18:24straight to the fielder but a little bit of a miss field made sure that they'd get through comfortably
18:29enough and he was backing up well well there's plenty of hard work ahead of the kenyans if they
18:37can't get the boundaries they have to run quickly between the wickets and that's hard work
18:43it's not easy to play in this heat
18:48nicely played there should be a couple here
18:57so four overs remain 182 for five
19:04this is a good hit but it's going to be caught
19:10and comfortably taken out there on the boundary and paul strang the man who got underneath it
19:18and so tony suji is gone it's hit it too well look at the way the ball has gone it's
19:25gone off the middle
19:26he's picked it up very well and a very good catch also there
19:32so kenya losing their sixth wicket tony suji out for eight they have 184 for six
19:43well by my reckoning nobody should be down the other end facing
19:51bird shake has taken guard and he's going to face andy whittle
19:58immediately putting back to ball and he's going to get four runs for it there is a man in there
20:03it's sort of a backward point short third man but it went too fine for him and runs away to
20:09the boundary
20:10very welcome boundary too he decided to give it everything now he's just coming to bat the
20:16instructions from the pavilion from the coach and the captain would have been
20:20don't mess about there just go and throw your bat this is the third last over
20:26a good looking shot very good in fact hit in front of the wicket
20:34and the man who's sweeping andy bluchnot gets round and cuts it down to two
20:46in the air and caught nice simple catch
20:55for carlisle
20:58so another one down seven gone now and certainly kenya have lost their way
21:06so he had nothing to lose mama chick batting at number eight coming in the final overs he had to
21:13throw his bat that's what he tried to do eight of seven deliveries kenya 193 for seven
21:21new batsman jimmy commande james commande
21:28this is hit well man under it gone so a number of the kenyan batsmen now holing out in the
21:36deep
21:36it's understandable they've got to go for it in the last over
21:44once again right smack in the middle of the bat but there is a fielder there just for that shot
21:49alistair campbell's been very impressive with his field placing
21:55that's the eighth kenyan wicket gone for 198
22:02andy whittle bowls and the high full toss gets it down to long on for a single new batsman is
22:11martin suji
22:13he's there because of the end of a good little innings of 31 from 47 deliveries
22:19caught out on the boundary by mutandera
22:26no they're not going to get there
22:30that's it 50 overs bold and kenya after being 121 for one in the 33rd over that's when they lost
22:37their second wicket ending on 199 for eight so they'll be disappointed with that after a very
22:44good start and zimbabwe will need exactly 200 to win
22:52so just a bit of disappointment at the end for kenya but they finish with 199 for it quite a
22:57challenging
22:57total that ravindo shah made 71 steve tickler 33 and really only hites modi towards the end kept it going
23:04with that innings of 31. let's take a look at the bowling neil johnson one for 24 and mutendra none
23:10for 20 but they didn't bowl after that and the key bowlers really were guy vittle three for 29 from
23:1510
23:16grant flower none for 35 from his 10 and alistair cambo picked up two wickets as well from his three
23:22overs paul strength was only given five overs so 199 a pretty challenging total that we'll take a break
23:29now when we are back let's catch up with the zimbabwean reply we're very sharp in the field this has
23:35been
23:36one of the characteristics of the new teams in international cricket at the highest level zimbabwe
23:44kenya have been very good in there in the field
23:51oh
23:53edge through where slip would have been this goes for four
23:56second slip catch but no second slip in
24:01kenya opting for just a single slip and a gully and that is well to uh would have been to
24:08second
24:09slips right hand
24:12thick outside edge and this outfield so fast there's a third man in place but
24:23that's a good straight drive as possible don that's going to rocket away to the boundary
24:28so flowers second boundary the first one fortuitous the second one a lovely shot
24:40so one of those during his innings by ravindu shah for kenya always a lovely shot to watch
24:49well not from that angle if you're a bowler
24:57good shot down the ground the outfield is too fast no one can catch that
25:01and that's well struck so two straight drives just slightly over pitching nothing wrong with the line
25:07it's on the stumps just over pitching
25:12just slightly over pitched and johnson really did time that superbly because he just pushed at the
25:17ball just have a look at this no real effort no follow through but perfect timing look at that lovely
25:25shot
25:32fine leg again across and a very good save desperate work but it will be four
25:45well
25:46mohamid shape diving across to his left and leg by is given
25:5222 without loss
26:02lovely shot again over pitching and put away square by grant flower for another boundary
26:11no problems for the zimbabwe batsman thus far and anything a little bit loose
26:16has been dispatched to the boundary
26:21slightly over pitched a little bit of width and flower very quickly onto it
26:34so grand flowers third boundary
26:40make that fourth i think it was across the ropes he didn't quite hit that as the
26:46as he did the previous one still raced away
26:54width again and flower playing that a little bit on the up
26:57very thick outside edge but uh again we can just see how fast this uh boundary is here at the
27:03corner ground narobi
27:06not off the middle
27:09but still reached the boundary ropes pretty comfortably
27:16he's gone
27:18eddie nichols raises a finger
27:21a couple of times we've seen adoya go through the back room with pace
27:26and the grand flower on the back foot so kenya get their first picket
27:32the door strikes for kenya the crowd love it they erupt
27:37one flower on the back foot dune done for pace a little bit of movement
27:41and umpire nichols decides that would have hit leg stump so grand flower gone for 18
27:46zimbabwe 31 for one
27:51captain comes out now the left-handed alistair campbell
27:55was in good form in the tournament in singapore they called for the challenge where his team
28:00played disappointingly but his batting was certainly the best of the zimbabweans there
28:06he comes in at three replaces grand flower
28:21so do we are really getting some pace of this fairly lifeless strip doing grand flower
28:28pace and a little bit of lateral movement he hasn't moved anywhere he's playing from the crease
28:35and that probably would have hit leg stump so that's a good decision
28:43and he's got a wicket with his first ball in ronda internationals
28:48this is his gable and ababu has got a wicket with his first ball
28:54in ronda internationals and zimbabwe have lost wickets in successive overs
29:00well the crowd erupted the bugles are going
29:06and that was first delivery the inside edge onto the stumps the bells go flying
29:12and in consecutive overs zimbabwe have lost wickets
29:16the second one gone with the scored 31
29:21murray goodwin comes in now because of the dismissal of neil johnson
29:30and josephat ababu has taken a wicket with his very first ball in ronda internationals
29:35and this is a moment he'll remember for the rest of his life
29:43and is that out everybody in the kenyan team up
29:49umpire not moved jeffrey well it went through with a nice bit of pace there it didn't bounce
29:56much but it got through to the keeper never touched it beautiful delivery though teased him into playing just left

30:17should be a couple
30:40goodwin had plenty of time to put it wherever he wanted it
30:44well it's very military medium uh this young bowler that uh his length and his line has to be pretty

30:52there's not much margin for errors it's wide might have got away with that if it kept it very straight

31:25the kenyans putting everything
31:30in the field look at that effort
31:32yeah it was a mistimed shot as well they're still having a problem these batsmen
31:37uh time in the ball bobbling along and that's what they need the good field in
31:43could have got through for two or three even though it was uh mistimed
31:51well you can slog it like that i suppose that's the simplest of all
32:01yes i think there was that option always would never have entered your mind jeffrey
32:07well it wouldn't if we see this ball again look how it it puffs up here look it just yeah
32:12takes a
32:13great big uh knocks the top off the pitch the earth comes out and he's still in it straight up
32:19and over
32:24it didn't quite time it one bouncer over the ropes
32:33yeah good strike this probably got a little bit more uh elevation on it a bit height than he actually
32:39wanted again the ball just stopping a little bit he's he's almost he's trying to ball medium pace but he's
32:46almost at the base of some spinners
32:55that's a bad ball
32:59finished completely they're going to go for the second they'll have to hurry
33:03it's not a bad take by kennedy otteno there the keeper if that throw had been right over the top
33:10and mr campbell could have been struggling
33:18good piece of fielding but uh the arm just not quite flat enough and not straight enough
33:25and in the end it looked comfortably home but it had been flat straight down the wicket now that's good
33:32footwork and he's hit it i think it might just be over the boundary rope
33:37and the umpire signaling four and i think you might be
33:42asked to rethink that one in fact he's going to get on the old walkie-talkie now
33:49good shot from campbell down the wicket and that is certainly cleared the ropes by a good couple of feet
33:57so i think we have found that decision will change to a six
34:03he hit that very hard can go that high it was fairly flat good shot
34:14now wide so this is not a good start by the left arm spinner muhammad sheikh
34:26this is smashed away four runs was just too short and with a turn gave him the wits to crash
34:32it
34:33through the covers
34:38certainly no risk in this shot it's short it's wide and now that's the campbell rocks onto the
34:43back foot and he finds the gap on the offside and well that's not good bowling by the kenyan captain
34:51oh and he's stumped now i'm sure he's out this time yes umpire eddie nichols doesn't even have to
34:59refer it to the third umpire the finger is up and alistair campbell is on his way and really alistair
35:08campbell has not played or do we very well again adumbi gets the ball past his opposing captain's bat
35:16this time he pitches it up that's much better bowling campbell reaching for it it's a good
35:21piece of stumping he's gone by a mile the crowd here are up campbell goes for 27 72 for three
35:31andy flower is the new batsman and that wicket of alistair campbell the zimbabwe
35:37captain has certainly put kenya right back in this match bad ball full toss and uh dealt with
36:06so andy flower off the mark it is uh well that's a gift isn't it gentle full toss there's no
36:12one out
36:12on the mid-wicket boundary just uh one fielder on the boundary and that's behind square leg he hits
36:18that one in front he knows it poor delivery doesn't do there's too short that one and the fielder stands
36:30transfixed did not pick it up at all tony suji out there at backwards square leg and he just stood
36:37there
36:37the ball had gone into the boundary rope before he even knew where it was so 86 for three
36:46and there's no one out there perhaps there should be gone for another boundary and maurice
36:53adumbi now is going to put a man out there
36:59he's had an attacking field maurice adumbi because he's been getting the ball to turn quite sharply
37:07and that's good thinking because not giving away the singles he's forcing the batsman to take a risk
37:11now this was a risky shot he's played against the turn he's lucky to get away with it because there
37:16wasn't any protection there oh outfield is very fast it'll take a quick run to get there the ball wins
37:28so pressure just easing here on zimbabwe with three boundaries in quick succession
37:40again
37:42that is beautifully placed there's no one out there and finding the gap
37:53play it officially it would have been a catch if there was a shortage to cover somewhere here
38:00it would be absolutely perfect get one fielder from the onside
38:07over there
38:09hit that very hard hit it in the air and when he swept it you just felt well this might
38:15be a catch
38:15no way it's past the field before he could blink so another boundary
38:22takeola just showing a little inexperience here he's not a regular bowler
38:27too good first overs but now he's just drifting in line and length
38:33being taken for 11 of four balls
38:38and make that now 15
38:44andy flower zimbabwe's most prolific batsman in one day internationals just showing his class
38:51yes i think he's decided that he's had enough of poking around trying to work the
38:55balls away for singles he's decided to go for the big shots and he certainly upset steve ticolo's length
39:05wasn't such a bad delivery but there is no protection there no fielder there
39:18very expensive over 16 come off it 114 for three
39:33too short four runs murray goodwin a very good cutter and muhammad sheikh
39:42rattled and being ruled here he's short and put away
39:50and now he blows a full toss he really has uh had a
39:55a horrid day the young man age of 19
40:00correction age of 22 he played first when he was 19 still a young inexperienced tabola
40:16he's uh just gone now his confidence has been shot he's come back he knows he's both four bad overs
40:23to
40:23begin with he follows a full toss with a long hop no protection at deep mid-wicket
40:35but he's giving them width you see you can't allow people to play uh square cuts crossback shots
40:42you must make them play straight even if they drive you over the top i mean that's very wide
40:50and then he's to play the big shot like that so that he's flipping it away on the
40:56uh leg side or an exquisite lofted uh cover drive he played he's played over 100 to one day
41:04internationals very good player 139 for three
41:12it's a lovely shot just give him a touch of room he's a very very good player
41:17been around a long time played classy knocks all over the world
41:23see it's out there isn't it width over a foot wide and
41:27it allows you to free your arms and get out the ball
41:35this time it's too short and again it's packed away back with a square four runs
41:41so the runs continue to flow from the city end 147 for three
41:52that's well struck a bit of air just outside your stump
41:57and straight down the ground for four to murray goodwin yeah it's probably just a touch frustrated
42:03he can see the game getting away from kenya just tossed that one up and too much width
42:08was inviting for the batsmen
42:15this is hit hard and will be four more
42:20it was going very quickly to the boundary and tony suji made a valiant effort to try and save it
42:25got
42:25something of his hands or body on it but over the rope it went
42:34no with a full toss it's just out of reach of the mid on
42:39didn't quite get hold of it oh and it eludes him so it's four more and that brings up murray
42:45goodwin's 50.
42:50oh it's nicely played he's worked hard for that he struggled a little bit early on
42:55stuck around waited for the bad balls and this young man here overcompensating
43:00from the other end he bought too many short balls here he's trying to pitch it up and over pitches
43:05and giving away what i was saying before these gift balls which almost anybody can hit
43:11short the cardinal error of any spin bowler when the ball well any pitch but particularly when it's
43:17turning he's to bowl short and no captain in the world can set a feel for those it's no good
43:24asking
