00:01The World Food Programme is seeking more than $30 million to keep feeding Congolese refugees in Burundi.
00:08The WFP warns that without new funding, food distributions could stop as early as October 2026, putting thousands of lives
00:18at risk.
00:22Thanks to the support of some donors under the leadership of the Burundian government, we have been able to continue
00:27the assistance and avoid a sudden interruption.
00:30We can keep going like this for a few more months.
00:36The WFP needs $5 million a month, including $1 million for Bermusa Camp in the East, to feed Congolese refugees.
00:46Today, we need more than $30 million to continue providing people with basic food every day, on their plates between
00:53January and June next year.
00:58Refugees currently receive just $12 per month per person. Support they say is far from enough.
01:09We are suffering a lot. The food assistance is far too little, and strong winds are also causing problems.
01:15The tents are very old. They collapse, one after another.
01:24Efforts are underway to find alternatives.
01:32We are discussing with the Burundian government and the UN to see what alternatives can be put in place.
01:42According to UNHCR, 22,463 Congolese refugees from Bersuma have already returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
01:52The camp, established in December of 2025, now hosts around 33,000 Congolese refugees.
