00:00I hope this moment also says something about who gets to belong.
00:03For people who look like me, I hope they see themselves reflected in this place
00:08and know that their path too belongs here.
00:11This is Camden and this is Britain.
00:19For all people, but especially for young people,
00:23I want this to demonstrate that you do not have to surrender your hope to succeed.
00:28You can lead with optimism, with kindness and with conviction.
00:32I want young people to know that their background does not determine the size of their dreams
00:36and that public life is a place for them to make a difference.
00:39I came here as a child and this place gave me so much.
00:42A home, education, friendships, a community, an opportunity and it made me who I am.
00:48I've spent so much of my life trying to give back through community work and public service
00:52and now to represent Camden in Parliament is perhaps the greatest way I can continue that journey.
00:57I will never forget where I came from and I will always relentlessly fight to be a voice for this
01:02place.
01:04I want to take this opportunity to thank my parents who taught me from a young age
01:08the importance of working hard, standing for your principles
01:10and always giving something back to the community that has given you so much.
01:15And thank you to everyone who's worked so hard to make this campaign possible,
01:19to the people who came from across the Labour movement,
01:21given their time, energy and commitment,
01:23and to the many people in Camden who have never campaigned before
01:27but chose to be part of something hopeful.
01:29You've shown what is possible when people come together in a common cause.
01:34I want to take a moment to recognise and thank the brilliant MPs
01:37who've represented Home and St Pancras previously before this moment.
01:41The late, great Frank Dobson who served this community with immense dedication and conviction.
01:49And Keir Starmer, who built on that legacy,
01:52representing this constituency for more than a decade
01:55and leading our party from opposition to government.
01:58I am deeply grateful for their service that they've given to this community
02:03and for the foundations that they've left for the next generation.
02:06To now have the privilege of taking on that mantle
02:08and to do so as the first woman to represent Home and St Pancras
02:12is an extraordinary honour.
02:15I sincerely thank Keir and the Dobson family,
02:18Joe, Tom and Jeanette, for their support for me.
02:21It is with pride and humility that I hope I can build on their legacy
02:24and I will do everything I can to serve this constituency
02:27with the same purpose and dedication.
02:30And finally, I want to talk about some of the experiences
02:33that I've had over the last few weeks.
02:36In Camden, our diversity is a strength
02:39and our cohesion has been too hard one to take for granted.
02:45Since I was a child,
02:47I've watched people across Camden work to build communities
02:50where difference is not something to fear,
02:52but something to value.
02:53We cannot allow that work,
02:55built over generations,
02:57to be casually undone by those who seek to divide us.
03:00We have a responsibility to defend what we've built
03:03and pass it on.
03:04Hope is not naive.
03:05Without hope, there is nothing to build on
03:07and nothing to build for.
03:09People need to believe that politics
03:11can make their lives better
03:12and that their communities can thrive
03:14and that tomorrow can be better than today.
03:16Our campaign gave people something to believe in
03:19while offering the practical experience
03:21and determination to deliver it.
03:23And that is what this victory represents.
03:26Winning not by making people afraid of each other,
03:28but by bringing people together
03:30around a positive vision
03:31for what our community and our country can be.
03:34Throughout our campaign,
03:36we chose hope
03:37and the people of Hoberland St. Pancras
03:39chose it with us.
03:45And now,
03:47it's time to deliver.
03:48Thank you so much.
04:08You
