PCG completes evacuation of sick Navy staff despite Chinese ships' water cannons
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) completes the medical evacuation of a Philippine Navy personnel from BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal on Oct. 8, 2026, despite China Coast Guard vessels’ use of a water cannon, blocking and dangerous maneuvers that delayed the humanitarian mission by nearly 10 hours. The patient was safely transferred to BRP Cabra and given initial medical treatment. Ayungin Shoal lies within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.
