00:00The Ministry of External Affairs speaking out on the USA's crackdown on the IT giants
00:04is the first statement that has come in from Spokesperson Randi Jaiswal.
00:08India has hit out at the US Vice President J.D. Vance for labelling the visa holders
00:12and foreign tech professionals as foreign indentured servants.
00:17The characterisation, New Delhi has slammed as deeply offensive and unwarranted.
00:22The MEA has said, and I quote it here first,
00:24The history of the United States of America itself has been shaped by generations of immigrants
00:29whose labour, enterprise and innovation have contributed to its growth and prosperity.
00:34Resorting to terms that carry painful historical and colonial legacy connotations is deeply offensive.
00:41And it's a surprise that J.D. Vance would make a statement like that
00:44considering his own family is also about immigrants.
00:47And at this point, remember, it's not just about pushing for more local American workers
00:53that clearly may work for the American citizens,
00:55but to use terms like indentured servants usually have been used during the colonial era
01:01and being spoken by the Vice President.
01:04Listen in to Randi Jaiswal.
01:07It should also be clear that talent mobility adds value to both economies,
01:13that is economies of India and the United States.
01:16In regard to the comments made by U.S. Vice President,
01:24let me say that we believe that such descriptions are unwarranted
01:27and ignore the fact that Indian professionals in the United States are highly educated
01:32and skilled contributors to its economy and innovation ecosystem.
01:38Indeed, the history of the United States itself has been shaped by generations of immigrants
01:44whose labor, enterprise and innovation have contributed to its growth and prosperity.
