00:00What is incredible to me is that, you know, you've got all these tech oligarchs or AI oligarchs, right?
00:05The people who have essentially created this highly digitized world around us,
00:10they've all become huge watch collectors as well.
00:14And I think it's because the mechanical watch is the reprieve.
00:17It is the oasis against everything that is ephemeral because it's so permanent.
00:23It outlives you, right?
00:25And it enters into this extraordinary symbiotic relationship with you
00:28because it only takes the energy that you give in, right, by winding it or wearing it.
00:32There's something quite magical about it.
00:33And it seems that watchmaking has become more relevant than ever.
00:36And it is our mission at the GPHG to continue that, right?
00:40I've already been on the jury for quite a few years.
00:43I've learned a lot from my predecessor, the incredible Nick Fowkes.
00:48Nick has always believed in debate and dialogue, right?
00:52And that's something that I've always loved.
00:54Oh, man, it was super passionate, you know, behind closed doors.
00:57And, you know, we're kind of on an honor system,
00:59so we don't really talk about that much about what happens.
01:01But there are also some extraordinary moments as well where you're like,
01:04wow, I've just had a revelation.
01:05This person's explained it so well that it's completely changed my mind
01:09about a specific time piece as well.
01:11So in terms of now moving into this role,
01:14I just hope to continue that important dimension that he created,
01:18which is this very open dialogue amongst the jury members.
01:22There's so much extraordinary creative richness in the watches that we have
01:28in our list that's come out.
01:29Remember the first time you listened to John Coltrane or Miles Davis or Tupac
01:33or, you know, Stevie Ray Vaughan, right?
01:36It was so incredibly unique.
01:39It was so mature, you know, even if that person was relatively young.
01:43And there was a fundamental contribution that it was making to music.
01:47It's the same thing in watches as well.
01:49We're looking for watches that have a contribution,
01:51that understand the continuing and evolving story of watchmaking
01:56and are trying to add something to that in the most beautiful way possible.
