00:00The one that everybody's going to be talking about for the next few days is the retirement of Lionel Messi
00:05from the Argentinian national team.
00:08Con toda la fiesta y todo la reverencia y fiesta que se merece, probably the best player in the history
00:15of the world.
00:17A great night.
00:19Some of the highlights is that Messi did not exchange the shirt with no one on the field
00:23because he gave a promise that that shirt will be delivered by himself to the Argentinian National Museum
00:29forever to be kept as part of the national treasure.
00:32Camila, what a great career.
00:35He won it all.
00:36Not always easy.
00:38Some people might not remember, but for the longest time, Lionel Messi was abused by his own people.
00:46All the journalists that hated him on the national team,
00:49le llamaron pecho frío, pidieron que se retirara,
00:53dijeron que nunca iba a ganar nada con el equipo que era un español,
00:57que mejor jugara con el Barcelona y con España nada más.
01:00And then he gave them the glory.
01:02And then he fought back, gave them two Copas America, gave them a World Cup
01:06and countless happiness and exciting moments.
01:10Cami, what a moment for football.
01:13Absolutely.
01:14I think, you know, even just watching this game through the screen,
01:17you could feel that it was a historic moment, right?
01:19I was watching every single moment, every play, because, you know,
01:23I think especially this is such a key figure and is going to be,
01:28and you can even, sometimes you don't know something is so important until you're past it,
01:32but no, you know how important Messi was.
01:34He is literally just the go and it's going to be a completely different, you know, game.
01:41It's going to be a completely different playing field because he's not in it.
01:45And so I think it was an amazing and beautiful, you know, rite of passage for him.
01:50It's definitely going to be hard.
01:51And I'm really curious to see what Argentina is going to do
01:53and how they're going to, you know, play in the next couple of years.
01:57I think it's going to be very interesting to see,
01:58but a beautiful night for an amazing player.
02:01And I also think, I can get into this later,
02:03but the stark difference between how Messi is going out
02:06versus how Ronaldo is going out of the Portuguese national team.
02:09Let's dig into it because I think it's important.
02:12Messi going out, well, that's the difference when you win a World Cup.
02:15Yeah.
02:15That is the reality.
02:16If Ronaldo was in a place where he had given Portugal a World Cup,
02:22maybe people wouldn't be up on arms the way they are about him.
02:26Very divided right now.
02:27I feel like there are players inside the Portuguese team
02:32that have not respected his stature.
02:34The coach is not respecting his stature.
02:37And yes, he's 41, but it's Ronaldo.
02:39He can change the game at any time.
02:41And if you're not going to use him for the process,
02:44be upfront about it, let them know and see.
02:47But this drama that is drawing out on the media about,
02:51like I said, he was going to apologize to me,
02:53and then he didn't, and then we go out.
02:55And I feel like that just stains the legacy of Ronaldo.
02:59And on the other side, you see Messi being celebrated at the highest level.
03:02Now, caveat, I did not appreciate, like most of the internet,
03:09that they had sold advertising space during the drone show
03:14for an insurance company, Camila.
03:16I felt like that was disrespectful.
03:18I think that was not the way to commercialize the goodbye of the goat.
03:24It felt cheap.
03:25Yeah, it definitely felt cheap.
03:27It felt cheap.
03:28That's an unfortunate reality of football.
03:31In the World Cup, there were quite literally ads going on during the game.
03:35So that's a story for another day.
03:37But I think you still saw the respect.
03:39You still saw even the way the Benin players were, you know, respecting Messi.
03:44You could see when the two captains came up to do the coin toss.
03:47They gave him a statue, a note.
03:49I think also, getting into the actual match, the first half was pretty good.
03:55I mean, Argentina was a little nervous at some times.
03:59You know, that left winger, I don't know his name,
04:01but he definitely stood out to me on the Benin team.
04:03He was dynamic, athletic, beating the Argentinian defenders on a 1v1.
04:08There was a couple times when, you know, he had a breakthrough,
04:11and I almost got close.
04:13So I think it definitely could have been a different game.
04:15But overall, we still saw so much mutual respect for all the players.
