00:01Hi, I'm Evan Gerdes. I am the director, producer, editor, and star of Nosferatu.
00:09I made these title cards with Microsoft Paint, as you can probably imagine.
00:13I don't recall, but I seem to have a little bit of trouble getting them even.
00:19I had some white lines that shouldn't have been there.
00:22I don't know what that was about.
00:24But once in a while, I did just get frustrated with editing and just give up.
00:28This is downtown McKinney, a house in downtown McKinney.
00:34Editing was just not really my thing, nor was lighting.
00:37Which is why this short film, this was such a triumph sort of for us.
00:42It was the first one we ever did in black and white.
00:45And that really helped us at this stage to disguise that it was the same house we were always filming
00:51in.
00:51And disguise the fact that we had no budget and that we weren't doing much with lighting because we weren't
00:57able to.
00:59This helped us play with shadow just a little bit more than usual.
01:06I think the sound effects are funny in this.
01:10This is less a homage to the character or the movie Nosferatu, because the Robert Eggers one hadn't even come
01:16out yet when we were making this.
01:18But I had seen the original Nosferatu recently for the first time and really liked it.
01:24But anyway, less a homage to Nosferatu and more just a homage to the silent era in general.
01:33I'm supposed to have disappeared in that shot.
01:36This was one of the videos we were fortunately able to get almost everybody in.
01:41Jer and Nick weren't there, they weren't available, but we got all the other usual suspects.
01:51Archer swearing his ass off in that scene.
01:55Because you can say whatever you want when it's a silent film.
01:59So I originally bought a Nosferatu mask off Amazon to wear, but it basically took away all the personality of
02:07the lead character because you weren't able to see my face.
02:10But more to the point, it didn't fit over my head.
02:12I've learned as I've gotten older that I got a bigger head than a lot of people because hats and
02:20masks and things don't fit me.
02:23By this time, Paul had completely tired of playing the main character.
02:28I think Paul's the funniest guy I've ever met.
02:31I think he's great on camera, but the videos that star him never really did as well.
02:37They never got as big a response, which is too bad.
02:43But at this point, this was late in the Epco Productions days, and Paul just kind of requested to play
02:51a supporting role and have me be the titular character.
02:55I think that's a hilarious little clip there.
02:58That was fun to do.
02:59Just to watch him improv.
03:05I don't know why they went with the little Dutch angle for that.
03:08I don't know if Archer or Wong was holding the camera at that point.
03:11I assume it was Archer.
03:14Archer never really got starring parts, for the most part, because I wanted him holding the camera.
03:19The only time he got a starring part was if I was going to be holding the camera the majority
03:23of the time,
03:24because as I've said before, he was my most trusted DP.
03:30And then the blood you see here is just salsa, because that's what we had on hand.
03:33I would have preferred ketchup or something.
03:37But yeah, that's Nosferatu.
03:41One of the ones, one of the better ideas we've had, I think.
03:43I think.
03:44I think.
03:44About time is called Miss Sola Lutz.
03:45It has the same way to see if we're doing it.
