00:04to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court, calling Washington to reverse the measure.
00:09In a statement issued by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Callas, the bloc reaffirmed its
00:13support for the rules-based international order, stressing that the organization is a
00:17fundamental pillar of that system and also plays a crucial role in ensuring accountability
00:21for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes while not targeting sovereign states.
00:26Kaja says that targeting or threatening the ICC, its elected officials and other informatics
00:31is unacceptable.
00:33The EU emphasized that the International Criminal Court must be able to operate independently,
00:38free from pressure or external interference.
00:41The bloc fully supports the court and its readiness to take all necessary measures to ensure it
00:46can continue clearing out its mandate effectively.
00:48Last Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Washington's intention to impose
00:52sanctions on the ICC, following former Judge Navi Pilek's receipt of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
