00:00Engineers and everyone who sees rockets not just as big, but as complex.
00:06Three stages, five F1 engines at the bottom.
00:10Just one of them had more thrust than entire rocket programs of other countries.
00:16If you visualize it like I do here in this cutaway, then it becomes clear.
00:21Anyone who thinks all of this was simply filmed is not only underestimating the technology,
00:27they're underestimating the kind of industrial and organizational machinery behind it.
00:34Another problem.
00:35We systematically underestimate how quickly technology develops.
00:40In 1961, the first American flew suborbitally.
00:44In 1969, humans landed on the moon.
00:47Eight years.
00:49And not even 70 years after the first flight of the Wright brothers.
00:54Today, it takes us eight years to renovate an airport or to get a rocket through an environmental review.
01:01Our sense of time today no longer applies to that era.
01:06The Cold War was not a normal environment for innovation.
