Falcons hold off Warriors

Adamson University woke up in time to hold off University of the East, 71-64, to bounce back in the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, October 11.

The Falcons soared to a 22-point, 54-32 halftime lead but scored three points only in the third quarter, as the Red Warriors unleashed 17 to pull within eight, 49-57, entering the final canto.

Adamson answered UE for the rest of the way, though, to recover from its loss to NU and rise to 3-2 for a share of third place with De La Salle as of posting time. The cellar-dwelling UE stayed winless at 0-6.

00:00We weren't really surprised with how they played in the second half.
00:03Because I always remind our players that U.S. is also due for me.
00:08They've been playing a lot better in the last 2-3 years.
00:12Playing really freely.
00:15Tells me a lot of them, Bantayan.
00:17So we were really challenging our players to do a lot better.
00:23I just felt a little bit relaxed in the third.
00:27Looking for the referees to save them, asking for fouls.
00:33But I think we played really, really soft in the third.
00:37And moving forward, I think that's how U.S. played.
00:44Just continue to play defense.
00:47Because offensively, I think they have some weapons out there.
00:51I mean, nothing new because I'm used to different basketball.
00:54So, I just have to adjust the system by which the player and select things.
01:01And just compose.
01:03And since I have my symmetry, they're going to guide me through.
01:06Tell me how to do.
01:08And just kind of play, go the, you know, win the game.
01:13How are you teams?
01:15Uh, I think we've always had to focus defensively.
01:19And especially in the last 2 games in the first round.
01:22So, uh, if we don't have to shoot, we need to be defensive.
01:28Because there's a system of defense first round.
01:32And the first round, we'll have to be defensively.
01:37I want to watch this last year.
01:38I'm going to watch this thing every day and I'll be able to watch this session.
01:41I want to watch this video.
01:41And I'll try it.
01:43And hopefully, I'll be able to watch this video.
01:44And hopefully, see it in a second.
01:46Okay.
01:47I'm just driving and I'm just driving the camera.
01:49Uh, I do watch this video.
01:51I do watch this video in the fourth quarter, because it's был a whole day.
01:55So, uh, uh, I know that they know that they are positive for a while.
02:05And then, they're happy.
02:09What's the silence of Coach? What's the message for him?
02:13Uh, the silence of Coach is that.
02:16That's what we need.
02:20We need to listen to this.
02:23We need to listen to this.
02:25We need to listen to this.
02:28We need to listen to this.
02:30We need to listen to this.
02:30So, uh, we need to listen to this.
02:32We need to listen to this.
02:34We need to listen to this.
02:36Hopefully, we don't have to do this in our next games.
02:38Especially, in the U.P., we can only play a game.
02:43So, it's a big lesson to go forward.
02:46Uh, for me, when it did for us, I was like, oh,
02:51they're coming 2-2-2 with us because they have to get a win.
02:55So, they have to play everything hard to make sure that this will be the first one.
02:59So, well, actually, if someone in the third quarter,
03:03I just kind of relapse.
03:04Then, when I join in, then, they stay the ball.
03:08So, I just gotta...
03:09When I scored up, basketball was just, like, the motivation.
03:12How do we keep our heads on the game?
03:12Like, we should keep our head on the game.
03:14Like, we should keep our head on the game.
03:14Like, we should keep on playing no matter how aggressive they come against us.
03:21Uh, yeah, it's going to be a hard, uh, week for us, you know?
03:29When it started today, today's game.
03:31So, the game's in, uh, seven days.
03:36And then, we play the finalists of, uh, last year.
03:40Uh, I think both teams are trying to get commented.
03:45Uh, going to the end of the first time, so.
03:48Plus, mahirap, actually, sila kalaban niyan.
03:51Uh, talking about UPR and the Sun.
03:53So, uh, yeah.
03:57Uh, we'll see what we can do.
04:02Well, your confidence will be there.
04:05Uh, um, again.
04:09Having beaten, um, FU, you know?
04:14Uh, who is President JT number one.
04:18And then, um, VTUS as well.
04:22So, it says a lot.
04:24Uh, yeah.
04:25So, if you process it correctly, interpret it correctly, then.
04:30Uh, we shouldn't, uh, not have confidence going into our last game.
04:39So, I wouldn't say we're capable.
04:41You know?
04:42But, again, the question is.
04:44Uh, uh, ano kami ang pagdating ng game na yun?
04:48So, uh, sana okay.
04:51Sana okay kami ang pagdating sa mga games.
04:53Uh, barang, you know?
04:53Uh, so.
05:09In my mind, we'll see you next time.
05:11Bye-bye.
05:11Bye-bye.
05:17Bye-bye.
05:20Bye-bye.
