Philosopher Stefan Molyneux explains that when values clash your enemies must lose, since one side winning means the other side fails. He also talks about real happiness coming from virtue and confronting evil rather than comfort, and why you need honest people watching your back so you do not drift into bad habits or low standards.

00:00:00good morning good morning everybody i hope you're doing better than me
00:00:06so uh it is october the 11th 2026 and i uh this is steph pot on a little sleep no
00:00:14no i'm gonna
00:00:15do a good show i'm gonna do a good show i'm just telling you uh i'm surfing caffeine and adrenaline
00:00:20because um well let's just say i had a had a social evening last night and it was a
00:00:27very late night full of enormous hilarity and fun and good company and so i am it's not that i'm
00:00:34struggling it's just that why wait actually does that make me sound bad because sunday mornings i'm
00:00:40normally fine yes i have no social life whatsoever but just happened to drop in on a homeless encamp
00:00:45encampment last night so yes it was a late night and i'll tell you you know if you have late
00:00:51nights
00:00:51and you're in your 20s you're doing well if you have late nights and you're 60 uh it's just a
00:00:57little
00:00:57bit different there's not quite the same bounce back that happens as a whole so if y'all wish to
00:01:05feed me some questions or comments i would be happy to receive them and do what i can this may
00:01:14not be
00:01:14the longest show in the known universe but i am dedicated i am up i am ready to rock and
00:01:20roll a
00:01:20baby stroller so let's dip in a little bit back into the
00:01:31jane doe cornell seven story i did read this and i double checked it last night that the woman
00:01:38apparently struck these muscular poses and so on and there's some evidence that because her parents
00:01:44were docs that perhaps her lawyer gave the address which might have confirmed her identity but again
00:01:51unless it's 100 certain i don't want to put it out there but if she was as the defendants say
00:01:56she was
00:01:56striking these muscular poses one thing that one thing that people noticed was scars on her legs
00:02:08now she i think confirmed that prior and it wasn't even that much prior that she had been a self
00:02:14-cutter
00:02:17and i knew a self-cutter ah it was a self-cutter i knew a self-cutter once in my
00:02:22life when i was young
00:02:24it was a fellow who uh was into the strangest music known to man and also uh would would push
00:02:32pins through the ball of his thumb and um was a very very smart fellow but but very odd and
00:02:42very
00:02:45not present not you couldn't connect no particular eye contact and so on so of course what did i know
00:02:51at the time but i would of course since then i've kind of understood that this indicates you know
00:02:57significant levels of a child abuse and so
00:03:07that's and of course i've talked to a number of cutters over the course of doing philosophy in the
00:03:14world and having these conversations with these amazingly wonderful and courageous listeners who
00:03:19open up their hearts and minds and histories for help and for the edification of the world which is a
00:03:24really beautiful thing to do as a whole and i've talked to a number of cutters i remember there was
00:03:29one woman who his mother used to call her a witch with a capital b and she actually carved that
00:03:35into her
00:03:35leg and of course a lot of times people will cut where like maybe the top of the thigh and
00:03:41so on where
00:03:42it's not exposed skin it's an odd thing to do i think obviously as a whole highly dysfunctional
00:03:49but i assume that it is better to feel pain than nothing i am i want to make this about
00:03:58myself but
00:03:59this is sort of how i conceptualize it because i am stuffed to the gills with emotions i feel very
00:04:04passionately about just about everything and just as i felt very passionate about the socializing last
00:04:10night which was an absolute blast so i feel very passionately about just about everything i really have
00:04:16to fight the urge you know when i'm reading a news story to not get too invested too emotional too
00:04:21like i feel i'm stuffed to the gills uh old line from absolutely fabulous about the lead character in
00:04:28tight pants you look like a zeppelin in a condom well my emotions are like a zeppelin in a condom
00:04:32and
00:04:34i feel very strongly and some of what i have to do is to attempt back and learn to mediate
00:04:40my emotions so i can't imagine really what it's like to feel numb to feel nothing i assume it must
00:04:48be extraordinarily disorienting i assume that you're out of touch of your your instincts that
00:04:56which makes you human feeling nothing means feeling i guess no pleasure and feeling like you might drift
00:05:03away from your entire emotional experience which you know kind of makes life worthwhile i mean thinking is
00:05:09great i love thinking that's a it's a good thing to do and reason and the emotions have a complicated
00:05:15interweaving but what makes life worthwhile are the feelings are the emotions not just sensations right
00:05:25because you can get sensations you can jump into an ice bath you can sit in a hot sauna you
00:05:32can like
00:05:32you can get sensations but you know happiness as a whole is sort of rich and complex feeling that comes
00:05:39out of the pursuit of virtue and if you can't feel i suppose it would be like if your emotions
00:05:50were
00:05:51moving away from you and we're going to abandon you forever
00:05:58like those two poor people and that's i think it's called open water absolutely haunting movie
00:06:03that i saw many years ago and it's also covered in uh some crime documentaries case files i think has
00:06:13one and they were taken out to a reef in the middle of nowhere off australia this couple and then
00:06:21the ship left without doing a head count or a proper head count and they ended up being
00:06:29in the water and they weren't found for two days oh they weren't even found to be missing for two
00:06:34days and then their bodies were never recovered but a fin washed up and some little chalkboard that
00:06:40they use for underwater communication washed up saying help me help me of course nobody knew nobody
00:06:44knows what happened to them no body parts were ever found and there were all these theories that
00:06:48maybe they staged their own death and they escaped and blah blah blah so
00:06:57you know imagine them when this is seen in the movie right they come up and they're they're seeing
00:07:01the scuba boat leaving you know hey hey hey we're here we're here we're you know a dozen miles from
00:07:10land we don't know which way is which we need to be on the boat and the boat left
00:07:17and the there was supposed to be a bus that took everyone back to their hotels the bus said hey
00:07:21these people weren't on the bus and the tour guides did not seem to overly to be overly enthusiastic to
00:07:27care about that and it was only when they saw the bag later on oh people left behind some towels
00:07:32or
00:07:32whatever it's like no it's their wallet and all this kind of stuff so of course if they were around
00:07:36they would have said something so you know if you're in the if you're in the water and you see
00:07:40this dive boat this scuba boat uh sailing off i mean there's absolute dread you'll you would do
00:07:46anything to get the boat back and i think if you are going through a huge amount of dissociation like
00:07:54not feeling absolutely drifting away from that which is that makes you human and that which is
00:07:59that makes life worthwhile which is happiness and pleasure is fine you know pleasure is definitely
00:08:06part of life but the animals experience pleasure of course you see those jack rabbit
00:08:10male bunnies who you know massive uh epileptic staple hump the female rabbits and then sort of
00:08:18pass over to one side teenage boys but
00:08:26the animals will experience pleasure and we can experience pleasure and of course the foundation of
00:08:31our essences built upon four billion years of creatures of animals right and was it six or seven
00:08:40million years ago when we hived off from the lower apes so they experience pleasure dopamine from climbing
00:08:47the social hierarchy they experience hunger they satisfy the hunger they feel good they're tired they
00:08:52sleep they're thirsty they drink so they feel pleasure both in the pursuit of active positives such as
00:08:58sexual activity or the relief of negatives such as alleviating hunger and thirst and so on so the
00:09:02animals are guided by pleasure and pleasure is not irrelevant to us of course because we are still
00:09:07mostly animal right the brain is um three pounds right and if you're a hundred pounds it's right three
00:09:16percent and if you're 200 pounds it's 1.5 so you know and even the brain is not all human
00:09:22right it's just
00:09:22layers and layers and layers right like there's cities that are built and you keep drilling down and
00:09:26they're cities from prior civilizations that's our brain the post monkey beta expansion pack on the
00:09:32four billion years of wetware history and so yeah pleasure is a very important part of life but that
00:09:38which makes human life worthwhile is happiness and happiness requires reasonable levels of moral courage
00:09:46pursuing the promotion of virtue and opposing evildoers and so on that is our best chance for any kind of
00:09:54sustainable happiness and i mean all pleasures come with sacrifices right i mean it was the old saying
00:10:02in in health circles right pay me now or pay me later so it's more fun i had i had
00:10:07a dessert last
00:10:08night for the first time in months it was a piece of mennonite apple crumble i have a big weakness
00:10:15for
00:10:15apple crumble it's really fantastic oh that crunchy stuff on the top i can't really do a show if my
00:10:19mouth
00:10:20is tsunamiing or niagaraing like this but i had a dessert but you know as you get older you know
00:10:25dessert is nice i like eating dessert but you know if i eat dessert i get fat especially as i
00:10:30age i mean
00:10:30this you can do some stuff with exercise but there's still some metabolism issues and so pay me now pay
00:10:38me
00:10:38later right i mean it's nicer to eat dessert and it's nicer to not go to the gym or exercise
00:10:42in the short
00:10:43run but in the long run you suffer more pay me now or pay me later and so all even
00:10:51pleasures come
00:10:54with suffering right so if you want to be you know strong and healthy or at least have the best
00:11:00chance
00:11:00of it into your old age then eating well and exercising is essential it's not even optional it's essential
00:11:05especially muscle mass tends to deteriorate pretty quickly and vanish and it's hard to rebuild so you just
00:11:09got to maintain it so all pleasure as a whole comes with suffering and happiness is no different right
00:11:21i mean if you want to pursue virtue and oppose evil then evil will make you pay right evil has
00:11:27its agenda
00:11:27it wants to do terrible things for its own sadistic pleasures and people are wired in opposition right
00:11:33good people are wired and wiring doesn't mean determinism because we all have to fight some of our worst
00:11:38impulses it's called the shadow south or the shadow work from jung which is that we all have the
00:11:43capacity for evil and we have to try and wrestle that same intensity and put it to work in the
00:11:48pursuit
00:11:48of virtue but
00:11:54the happiness that comes from doing good is the result of the attendant discomfort that occurs when you
00:12:01confront evil because good people are wired to bring truth consistency reason and virtue to others and
00:12:11evil people are wired to disintegrate reality processing in other people to subjugate them to control them
00:12:19to bully them to harm them to threaten them and to torture them and very often to kill them that's
00:12:27just
00:12:27what evil people do and fighting evil is tough it's actually i mean it's not that tough to fight evil
00:12:35it is tough to see the weakness of allies when you're fighting evil i don't know if you've had
00:12:41this experience and you may not be some big public why not medium public figure like myself you may just
00:12:47do it within your own family you may you know maybe there's some uncle who's loud obnoxious corrupt
00:12:53says all the wrong things looks inappropriately at people and uh promotes hitting children and things
00:13:00like that so but even within the family right what's difficult about fighting corruption is not
00:13:07the blowback from the corrupt people that's sort of to be expected it is not the arrows of enemies that
00:13:13hurts but the betrayal of allies or the betrayal of friends when you fight evil you realize that evil
00:13:21exists not because people aren't willing to fight it people are but evil exists because most people
00:13:26are hedonists and they conform to evil because evil has a greater power to inflict discomfort than virtue
00:13:32has to inflict comfort evil has a greater power to inflict discomfort than good has to
00:13:42summon comfort it's sort of like if you are at a party and everyone's saying hey man have a drink
00:13:48you got to learn that relax don't be so uptight one little drink isn't going to kill you my god
00:13:52you
00:13:52know blah blah blah blah blah right well if you drink a lot it's it's bad for you but in
00:13:58the moment
00:13:58the corrupt people who are trying to get you to drink are able to inflict a lot more harm on
00:14:04you in the
00:14:05moment through disapproval and ostracism and eye-rolling and maybe not being invited back and not having a
00:14:11social life and not being able to date or whatever it is right so the corrupt people can inflict
00:14:16significant harm on you whereas the virtuous person who says you know hold tight you know they're just
00:14:23trying to spread dysfunctional behavior and so on i mean what can we offer you discomfort in the
00:14:29moment and we can say yes but years down the road you'll be in a better place right years down
00:14:34the
00:14:34road you'll be in a better place right or you know the people who overfeed you right often parents if
00:14:40they're overweight they will overfeed their children oh you know have a have a little dessert learn to live a
00:14:44little life isn't all about denying yourself you've got to learn to have you enjoy yourself blah blah
00:14:49blah it's okay well if you develop the habit of eating desserts and you're not exercising enough
00:14:52you're going to get fat but if you get fat then the effects of that are months or years down
00:14:59the road
00:14:59and the negative health effects of being fat are probably decades down the road like if you get fat in
00:15:04your teens it's probably in your 40s that the health effects really hit you so saying no to your
00:15:12overfeeding mother she's going to apply a lot of pressure to get you to eat because she doesn't
00:15:18want you to be thinner than her and this is true with intersexual competition that overweight mothers
00:15:22will often overfeed their daughters and they will also overfeed their sons particularly if they're
00:15:28single mothers because single mothers overfeed the sons so that the sons can stick around and have
00:15:36them not be lonely later on or at the very least overweight sons won't attract the kind of quality
00:15:41woman who might confront the power or try to overthrow the power unjust power of the single
00:15:45mother so we should focus and process pleasure and pain but we should also process and notice
00:16:00happiness and unhappiness and of course the purpose of nutritionists and exercise coaches and so on
00:16:06people who focus on this kind of stuff is to say your future self will thank you right i mean
00:16:12if you
00:16:12lose weight if you exercise and so on your future self will thank you i mean i remember when i
00:16:18used to work
00:16:20at the company that i co-founded there was a guy who worked in the building
00:16:26just had giant like spilling over his belt buckle his his gut he was probably in his 40s i just
00:16:35remember
00:16:35every now and then there'd be like a fire alarm test or something like that and we'd all have
00:16:40to exit the building or i'd see him sometimes going in in the morning and i was just like oh
00:16:45i guess i
00:16:46was in my 20s back then right and i was like ah yeah whatever i do and my father warned
00:16:51me about this
00:16:51once he said you know the danger the danger young molyneux the danger is a pound a year you want
00:16:58a pound a
00:16:59year doesn't sound like much from 20 to 40 that's from 20 to 60 that's 40 pounds or 40 pounds
00:17:06you're
00:17:07carrying on you he had gained weight so i guess he was trying to tell me and i remember looking
00:17:13at
00:17:13that guy or you know listening to the advice of my father and like all of the things you can't
00:17:20do
00:17:20right all the things you can't do you can't run up the stairs you can't play sports really other than
00:17:26maybe you could wobble around on the golf course a little uh you can't you know you can't see your
00:17:32your peener you can't probably have any kind of decent sex life you you know you can't be happy at
00:17:39the beach you can't you know you you have these i assume occasional waves of uh disgust at yourself
00:17:46if you look like that and you know you have all the attendant heart issues and concerns and worries and
00:17:51you know cancer risk goes up heart disease of course the number one killer goes up enormously
00:17:56and trying to lose it is horrendous and the other thing that happens of course if you get obese and
00:18:01this guy certainly was obese another thing that happens of course is that everyone in your life has
00:18:06let that happen like nobody has kind of stood up forcefully and said boy this is a bad idea boy
00:18:13you
00:18:13really shouldn't be doing this boy you know you're heading in the wrong wrong direction and then you
00:18:17have to kind of focus on everyone who let you get fat and didn't strenuously oppose it or get you
00:18:24to
00:18:24stop i mean if it's your parents it's your parents if it's you know your girlfriend it's your girlfriend
00:18:29it's your fiance your wife it's your fiance your wife it's your uncles your aunts like how do you get
00:18:34that
00:18:34way it's part of a whole embedded right and this is why when i sorry i know this sounds like
00:18:40a tangent
00:18:40i'll i'll wrestle it to coherence in a second or two but this is why when in my late 20s
00:18:49when i had
00:18:51bought a ring for a woman and proposed to a woman i'm not a bad woman not a terrible woman
00:18:55but just
00:18:56wasn't you know now that i'm been happily married for like 25 years it's a whole world of difference
00:19:01but nobody said are you sure this is the right woman are you you know you've had some conflicts you
00:19:06know it's been a while um are you sure are you sure like i want to sit because the biggest
00:19:10the
00:19:11biggest decision you make in your life is who you marry the one most consequential in
00:19:20your
00:19:25life i mean obviously you can change careers but you know if you're married and pair bonded you can't
00:19:32really do that right but you can you don't want to change without massive catastrophes particularly
00:19:38if there are children involved and so given that i was going to marry the wrong woman for me
00:19:44it was just a friend of mine's girlfriend who said you'd think someone who's going to get married
00:19:51would be happier that's all she said you know the girlfriend of a relatively new
00:20:00i mean definitely more than an acquaintance but certainly i had known him at this point for
00:20:07i had known him at this point for a year and a half and i'd known her for a little
00:20:13less time
00:20:17and
00:20:20this was the girlfriend of a guy somewhere between acquaintance and friend
00:20:26somebody i knew from work so all my friends in my late 20s i'd had friends in canada i didn't
00:20:33have any friends from england because i left when i was 11 i had friends in canada for
00:20:39i mean almost 20 years right like 11 to late 20s right so almost 20 years people had worked together
00:20:46lived together uh i worked up north uh with uh one of them and and not one of them had
00:20:53and family and
00:20:54and and and so on an immediate family some extended family not one person had reviewed with me whether
00:21:03this was the right decision not one person and what saved me was the girlfriend of a friend halfway between
00:21:15acquaintance and friend. That's how close the bullet came. It's terrifying. And then you think,
00:21:24well, what the living hell are these relationships? If nobody cares about me enough to watch my back
00:21:31and see if I'm on some sort of train track, right? I mean, I might just, well, this is what
00:21:35you do.
00:21:35You got to propose and then you got to get married. And I wasn't thinking things through
00:21:38and I wasn't in touch with all of that. Now, I mean, in my quote, rough defense, I was working
00:21:4360, 70, 80 hours a week sometimes. Software is a hard and harsh taskmaster.
00:21:51And so when you end up with significant dysfunction in your life, whether it's obesity or lack of
00:21:59exercise or not dating or dating the wrong people or something like that, one thing you know for sure,
00:22:06like for absolute sure, is that everyone around you has let it happen, which is why
00:22:13changing habits is so hard. Changing habits is when you realize, like, let's assume, right? Not that
00:22:20people have had these strenuous interventions, right? Like I'm not, you know, people have said,
00:22:24well, you've got to get to rehab or we're going to cut you off, like some sort of intervention style
00:22:28thing. Let's just say that you've kind of toodled along or trundled along and, you know, you play too
00:22:32many video games, you don't exercise, you don't date, you don't go out and challenge yourself,
00:22:36you're stuck in a dead end job or not working at all. And let's say you're 30 because I get
00:22:40these calls
00:22:40from guys, right? And you're 30 and what happens? Well, everyone's let it happen to you.
00:22:54If people have let you drift into a dead end life, I mean, of course, I mean, it goes without
00:23:03saying,
00:23:03but I'll say it anyway. It goes without saying that, of course, people are responsible for their
00:23:06own lives, you're responsible for your life, you can't blame everyone else for your own problems.
00:23:09I get all of that. But what's the point of having relationships if people don't care enough
00:23:14about you to question a bad direction that you're taking or that you're just stuck in?
00:23:24What's the point? What's the point of relationships?
00:23:29You know, if, you know, I'm looking down and there's an old meme about like, time I spend
00:23:37at the gym 45 minutes times time I spend picking songs to go to the gym an hour, because I
00:23:43remember
00:23:43I was trying to explain to my daughter that I used to have a little portable player called
00:23:47a Rio 500. Let me take you her name is Rio. And it had 64 megs of RAM and I'd
00:23:57have to pick just the
00:23:57right songs to go to the gym with. I had to each load them up one by one to that
00:24:01over a little cable.
00:24:04And trying to explain this to her, like there was no live streaming, it was not internet enabled,
00:24:08blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, right? And trying to explain that was kind of hard. But yeah, everyone
00:24:19who's let you get into a bad place is indifferent. You know, like if I'm picking songs and with my
00:24:31headphones on, I'm looking down, I'm not looking, and I'm about to walk into traffic. And there's a
00:24:36guy within our reach, he just shrugs and lets me go into traffic. Oh, well, I'm responsible for
00:24:43walking into traffic. Absolutely. I am responsible for walking into traffic. But one of the essences of
00:24:55actually having a community and being in a community is that people are supposed to
00:25:01look out for you. You should have just looked. This is a very famous scene from On the Waterfront,
00:25:10with Rod Steiger and Marlon Brando, where Marlon Brando is basically saying,
00:25:16well, you, my brother, you should have looked out for me a little bit. You shouldn't have
00:25:19made me take a dive in the boxing ring just to make money, to gamble. You should have looked after
00:25:24me a little bit. I could have been somebody. You shouldn't have betrayed me for money,
00:25:28my older brother. And that was one of the most famous scenes in 20th century cinema. You should
00:25:37watch it. It's available on YouTube, on the waterfront. I could have been a contender. I
00:25:41could have been somebody. And Marlon Brando making the most astounding acting choices as he generally
00:25:47does, gently pushing the gun away and so on. And that resonates with people because the whole point
00:25:54of being in a community is that we are not, we have not evolved for 360 degree self-evaluation.
00:26:04Being part of a social group, being part of a social species means you offload your processing
00:26:09to others, right? So we have eyes in the front, not on the side, because we're hunters, not prey,
00:26:14right? So we have eyes in the front, not on the side. We can't see behind. Why can we not
00:26:17see behind?
00:26:17Because other people are supposed to watch our back. Right? If I have, if I've got my headphones
00:26:26on and my friend is walking near me, and then he turns around and he sees some slavering, bloody
00:26:32jawed pit bull sneaking up behind me, and he doesn't say anything, and then the pit bull starts chewing
00:26:39my legs off. I mean, part of the reason that we've evolved with eyes in the front and the willingness
00:26:46to be distracted by music and other things is other people are supposed to watch our back.
00:26:52I remember when I was six in Africa, the Victoria Falls, looking over, see how far the falls went
00:26:58down. And some woman came up behind me and went, I almost, I thought I was going to, I thought
00:27:02I was
00:27:02dead. I thought I was just about to die. And she said, don't go so close to the edge. And
00:27:06of course it's
00:27:07Africa. So why would there be fences or safety or anything like that? But at least she was,
00:27:15I mean, my father wasn't watching me. It's completely bizarre to me that my father takes
00:27:19me to a death waterfall with no, and just lets me wander around at the age of six without checking
00:27:24on me. But this was the guy who wanted to finish his tennis tennis game. So I ended up drinking
00:27:30weed killer because I thought it was a cool, cool tin. Looked like pop.
00:27:39So the whole point of having a community is they're supposed to watch your back. They're
00:27:44supposed to help you. They're supposed to review you, right? I mean, we hunt in groups.
00:27:50Generally, we hunt in groups, right? Someone goes around front, chases the animal, and then
00:27:54you throw the spear or whatever it is you're going to do. So we hunt in groups. We're dating
00:27:59groups. We, you know, one of the reasons our lust has been programmed to go so high, particularly
00:28:06for men, is that our mothers, our fathers, our siblings, our aunts, our uncles, our friends
00:28:12are supposed to point out red flags and steer us clear of dangerous women, women who will
00:28:17destroy us, right? That's why we have, if we had to watch our own backs, we couldn't be hunters
00:28:24because we'd have eyes on the sides of our head. We'd be prey. And lust is a dangerous
00:28:31force for a young man. And lust has been allowed or has been encouraged by evolution to raise
00:28:38so high because it's supposed to get channeled by your elders, by people who are wiser, and
00:28:42particularly your mothers, your mothers who understand female nature, your mothers who
00:28:47have been harmed by women, right? All women who grow up have their stories of being harmed
00:28:51by the female collective for having any thoughts of their own and the mean girls and all of
00:28:55that. And so your mother is your primary shield against bad women. That's her job. I mean,
00:29:05your father too, absolutely, because your father, hopefully your father chose a good mother for
00:29:09you, which means that he avoided the temptations of mere lust and so on. But your family is supposed
00:29:16to watch your back and your family is supposed to say, nope, you can't date her, right? There's
00:29:20a, there's a meme out there that's been around for years where a man or a boy is texting his
00:29:30mother and saying, okay, but what time of day was I born? And the mother just shoots back,
00:29:36stay away from her, right? Because he's obviously dating some mystic who wants to know so she can do
00:29:41his readings, his cards or whatever it is and astrology, right? Some, some witch, right? And so
00:29:48you, your family, your friends, your elders, they're supposed to give you feedback and steer
00:29:58you clear of the bad and point you at the good, at that which is beneficial and helpful. And of
00:30:04course, it's very appealing to teens all the way back to Romeo and Juliet and before, well, all the way
00:30:08back to Eve and Adam, but it is very tempting to say to teens, you're right. And anyone who thwarts
00:30:15your desires is some stuck up priggish Christian conservative weirdo, right? That, uh, was that
00:30:24some Kevin Bacon movie about, you know, you can't dance in the town and, and, uh, footloose there,
00:30:29footloose. Everybody's got to be able to dance and you've got to be able to dance. And if you can't
00:30:32dance, you can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind. And, uh, the, the,
00:30:40the passion is what matters and connection is what matters. And all of your elders are wrong and bad
00:30:44and, and so on. Right. And that's sort of the tension in E.M. Foster's novel, Room with a View,
00:30:50which is that her elders are steering her towards the wrong guy in many ways. And then people have to,
00:30:58well, actually her, her family does. And the priest in fact does gently steer her towards the right
00:31:02guy. So how do you, how do you find the right partner? Well, lust has been dialed up so high
00:31:09because our elders are supposed to have some authority over who we marry. And if the elders
00:31:15don't exercise their authority over who we marry, then our lust leads us off a cliff.
00:31:24It's like, lust is like a candy to a kid, right? Kids will eat so much candy that they will
00:31:29throw up
00:31:29or they will be sick or whatever it is. And then they'll wake up and want more, right?
00:31:33And I still don't wake that way as an adult. I was there just the other day saying to my
00:31:38wife,
00:31:38hey, remember when I was younger and I used to eat a Mr. Big and an orange every afternoon,
00:31:42like a candy bar. I have not eaten a Mr. Big in probably 30 years, 25 years. Anyway, so,
00:31:51you know, your, your parents are supposed to exercise some control over what you eat so that
00:31:55you don't stuff yourself to the gills. And so our pursuit of sugar, which is basically driven by
00:32:00our pursuit of fruit, right? We need fruit. And so brightly colored things that are sweet,
00:32:05candy wrappers and so on, M&Ms. We like those M&Ms are brightly colored because they resemble fruit to
00:32:11our minds, which we're programmed to want. And sugar is something that we are, have a high desire for
00:32:16because it's concentrated energy, of course, in the form of honey, and also has us go to eat fruit,
00:32:21which is necessary for our survival, or certainly for our health. For most people, I guess, the Petersons
00:32:28somehow accept it. So
00:32:35one of the things that's hard to pursue, that makes it hard to pursue virtue, is that the first virtue
00:32:42is
00:32:42always honesty. And if people have let you put on 50 pounds or 100 pounds over the course of time,
00:32:47without taking massive strenuous effort to figure out what's going on, if they're watching you kill
00:32:53yourself with food and not saying anything, then they are dishonest. They are liars. They're lying
00:32:59to you. They're withholding essential truth about what they're seeing. They're sabotaging you.
00:33:03Somebody who's doing the wrong thing and you don't say anything, you're sabotaging them.
00:33:10And it is important to say the right thing. It is important to say the right thing. And to be
00:33:16honest. And if you're not honest, there's no relationship. There's just conformity and avoidance
00:33:22and people exchanging CO2 and oxygen in the same room. That's all. There's no actual relationship
00:33:31if you're not telling the truth.
00:33:35And so one of the reasons why
00:33:37it's so hard to pursue virtue
00:33:39is pursuing virtue
00:33:41reveals so often that you're surrounded by
00:33:43indifferent, sabotaging liars
00:33:45who want nothing but the worst for you.
00:33:47Who are more than content
00:33:49to watch yourself sabotage. Right? It's an old
00:33:51Gore Fidel quote. It is not enough
00:33:53that we succeed. Our friends
00:33:55must also fail.
00:33:57Right? And there is a lot of competition
00:33:59and so on. And there is a sort of natural
00:34:01opposition. If you hold opposing
00:34:03philosophies, you want the worst
00:34:05for each other. This is just something
00:34:07really, really important to understand
00:34:08in the world as a whole.
00:34:12If you hold
00:34:13opposing philosophies
00:34:15by
00:34:18absolute, almost ontological
00:34:19definition, you want the worst for each
00:34:21other. Now, what you want is
00:34:23for, let's say that I had
00:34:25a relative. Let's say I
00:34:27have
00:34:29a cousin
00:34:30who is
00:34:32a communist
00:34:34a subjectivist, a relativist
00:34:36you know, full of hate and
00:34:37tension and hostility and
00:34:38wokeness and whatever it is. Right?
00:34:39Just opposites. Right?
00:34:41Subjectivist, relativist
00:34:42and so on.
00:34:43Well
00:34:45he and I
00:34:46would be opposites
00:34:48in our values.
00:34:50If he wins
00:34:51I lose.
00:34:52Now, if I win
00:34:54he doesn't lose as much.
00:34:55Right? So if I win
00:34:56and we get a no government
00:34:58free market society
00:34:59okay, so
00:35:00he doesn't lose that much.
00:35:02Right? It's not like
00:35:03he's going to be put in a camp
00:35:04or a gulag or kills. Right?
00:35:05But if he wins
00:35:06and the communists take over
00:35:08well
00:35:09my lifespan
00:35:10will be measured
00:35:11approximately
00:35:12in the length
00:35:13of a
00:35:14coked up fruit fly.
00:35:15so it would not be
00:35:16ideal
00:35:17to put him
00:35:17oddly.
00:35:19So
00:35:19I want him to do badly.
00:35:21You know
00:35:22if we both have
00:35:23live streams
00:35:24and
00:35:24his
00:35:25gets a million
00:35:26viewers
00:35:27and I don't
00:35:29whenever I get
00:35:29a thousand
00:35:30or five hundred
00:35:31or whatever
00:35:31then I'm unhappy
00:35:33because it means that he's winning
00:35:34and I'm losing
00:35:34and the stakes
00:35:35couldn't really be higher
00:35:36when it comes to
00:35:37morality.
00:35:38I mean you can have
00:35:39disagreements in morality
00:35:40in a free society
00:35:41but in a state of society
00:35:42when the bad guys win
00:35:44they will use the government
00:35:45to
00:35:46destroy
00:35:48the good guys.
00:35:49Right?
00:35:49I mean
00:35:49the Khmer Rouge killed
00:35:51what a quarter
00:35:51of the population
00:35:52in Cambodia
00:35:53and it wasn't like
00:35:54everyone else is doing
00:35:55well either but
00:35:57or 70 million
00:35:58dead in Russia
00:36:00100 million dead
00:36:00in the 20th century
00:36:02from communism.
00:36:03So yeah
00:36:03it's a bit of a
00:36:04slaughterhouse
00:36:051 million
00:36:05100 million
00:36:06sorry.
00:36:07So
00:36:08if you have
00:36:09opposite values
00:36:10from people
00:36:12you want them
00:36:13to do badly
00:36:13I mean
00:36:14you want them
00:36:14to get wiser
00:36:16but you
00:36:17you need them
00:36:18to do badly
00:36:19if you're good
00:36:19and they're evil
00:36:20you need them
00:36:21to do badly
00:36:21if you're successful
00:36:22because you follow
00:36:24your own
00:36:25like let's say
00:36:25you have a
00:36:26a philosophy
00:36:27and we can take
00:36:28the morals out of it
00:36:28to some degree
00:36:29you have a philosophy
00:36:29that says
00:36:31you gotta
00:36:31you know
00:36:32fight for what you want
00:36:33in life
00:36:33and you gotta be honest
00:36:34and direct
00:36:35and treat people well
00:36:36but be assertive
00:36:37and just go for
00:36:38go for things
00:36:39right?
00:36:40and let's say
00:36:41there's somebody else
00:36:41who's like
00:36:42well I'm just gonna
00:36:43sit home
00:36:43I'm gonna visualize
00:36:44things
00:36:44I'm gonna manifest
00:36:45things
00:36:45and stuff is just
00:36:47gonna come my way
00:36:48and so on
00:36:48right?
00:36:50Well as
00:36:51as time goes along
00:36:52if you become
00:36:53more successful
00:36:53they become
00:36:54more resentful
00:36:56and let's say
00:36:57they don't have
00:36:57some magic
00:36:58face card
00:36:59that opens up
00:37:00the universe
00:37:00for people
00:37:01who want to do
00:37:02things for them
00:37:03because they're
00:37:03pretty or hot
00:37:04or whatever it is
00:37:05right?
00:37:05Male or female
00:37:05so let's say
00:37:06that you're
00:37:07otherwise being equal
00:37:11if
00:37:13you succeed
00:37:14on your philosophy
00:37:16they
00:37:17cannot succeed
00:37:18on their philosophy
00:37:19if you believe
00:37:20being active
00:37:20is the way
00:37:21to get things
00:37:22and succeed
00:37:23and they believe
00:37:23that being passive
00:37:24and waiting for
00:37:25the universe
00:37:25or God
00:37:26or karma
00:37:27to provide them
00:37:28with things
00:37:29then
00:37:29again
00:37:30they could stumble
00:37:31ass backwards
00:37:32into some kind
00:37:32like they're
00:37:33sitting there
00:37:33like
00:37:33well Lana Turner
00:37:34was discovered
00:37:35in a milkshake
00:37:36in a drugstore
00:37:37but of course
00:37:38she was gorgeous
00:37:39so it's a different matter
00:37:39saying everything else
00:37:40being equal
00:37:41if
00:37:43you believe
00:37:44that you know
00:37:45exercise and eating well
00:37:46is the way to health
00:37:47and other people
00:37:47are like
00:37:48I'm you know
00:37:48I'm body positive
00:37:49I'm fat positive
00:37:50and so on
00:37:52I mean
00:37:52it's not that you
00:37:53want people to fail
00:37:55but
00:37:56if
00:37:57you're right
00:37:58they're going to
00:37:59and if they're right
00:38:00you're going to fail
00:38:01I don't like to fail
00:38:03I'm willing to take
00:38:04a lot of blows
00:38:04of course
00:38:05right
00:38:05because
00:38:07failing in the present
00:38:08in regards to philosophy
00:38:10is succeeding in the future
00:38:11it only takes a cursory glance
00:38:12glance at the history
00:38:13of philosophers
00:38:13to know that
00:38:14I've got a whole big series
00:38:15for donors
00:38:15available for that
00:38:17so
00:38:19if you have
00:38:20opposite values
00:38:22then
00:38:27if you win
00:38:29the other person
00:38:30is going to lose
00:38:31especially when it comes
00:38:32to happiness
00:38:32I believe that happiness
00:38:34is the pursuit of virtue
00:38:35happiness is our
00:38:37involuntary emotion
00:38:38that arises from
00:38:41exposed to virtue
00:38:42if we're virtuous
00:38:42so involuntary response
00:38:44to virtue
00:38:44if we're virtuous
00:38:44that's what I believe love is
00:38:46and if other people believe
00:38:47that love is just kindness
00:38:49and niceness
00:38:49and being there for people
00:38:50and so on
00:38:52right
00:38:52then
00:38:53if they're right
00:38:54then I'm not going to
00:38:56experience love
00:38:56if I'm right
00:38:57then they're not going to
00:38:57experience love
00:38:58now I want to experience love
00:38:59and I do experience love
00:39:00which means I want them to
00:39:01I need them to be wrong
00:39:02like I'm sorry
00:39:03I just need them to be wrong
00:39:05now
00:39:05if they are right
00:39:07and I'm wrong
00:39:09then I will adopt their beliefs
00:39:10and change my behavior
00:39:11that's happened a number of times
00:39:12countless really times
00:39:13over the years
00:39:14where I've gotten better
00:39:15information advice
00:39:16and arguments
00:39:16and I change my behavior
00:39:17and I
00:39:20pursue
00:39:20I mean
00:39:21I think relatively rapidly
00:39:22I pursue
00:39:23a better
00:39:25course of action
00:39:26when I exercise
00:39:27with regards to my daughter
00:39:29I mean
00:39:29I've been exercising
00:39:30for
00:39:32I guess almost
00:39:33almost half a century
00:39:35and
00:39:36but my
00:39:36and I just got into
00:39:37these habits of exercising
00:39:38I don't really think about it
00:39:40and my daughter
00:39:41has
00:39:42read a lot
00:39:43and watched videos
00:39:44and she gives me
00:39:45great advice
00:39:45on form
00:39:46posture
00:39:47on how to exercise better
00:39:49I used to just
00:39:50do two reps
00:39:51pretty much in a row
00:39:52she's like three reps
00:39:53with a minute
00:39:54or two in between
00:39:55and I never used to take creatine
00:39:57or think about protein
00:39:58and so
00:39:58you know
00:39:59she's given me better
00:39:59advice and arguments
00:40:01on how to exercise
00:40:02which is great
00:40:03I appreciate that
00:40:04and
00:40:05I'm trying to sort of
00:40:06learn and follow
00:40:07her better advice
00:40:09which I mean
00:40:09I could have done
00:40:10for sure
00:40:10right
00:40:11but I just never did
00:40:12for whatever reason
00:40:14so
00:40:14I will try and
00:40:16right
00:40:17try and adjust
00:40:18to better arguments
00:40:20but
00:40:21the problem is
00:40:22is that
00:40:22if you have people
00:40:23around you
00:40:24who have opposite
00:40:25beliefs
00:40:25they need you to fail
00:40:29they need you to fail
00:40:32if you and I disagree
00:40:34about where
00:40:35the deer are
00:40:36like
00:40:36our families are really hungry
00:40:38and it's winter
00:40:39and
00:40:39so
00:40:40if you and I disagree
00:40:41about where the deer are
00:40:42and we're both going to be
00:40:43the champions of the village
00:40:44if we come back
00:40:45with some food
00:40:46then if you go north
00:40:47and I go south
00:40:49if you find the deer
00:40:50I'm unhappy
00:40:51because that means
00:40:52let's say
00:40:52there's only one herd
00:40:53of deer around
00:40:53so if you find the deer
00:40:55I'm unhappy
00:40:55because I did the wrong
00:40:56I need you to be wrong
00:40:57if I'm going to win
00:40:58status in the village
00:40:59or something like that
00:41:00right
00:41:00I need you to be wrong
00:41:01if I find the deer
00:41:02I know that you haven't
00:41:03found the deer
00:41:03if you find the deer
00:41:04I haven't found the deer
00:41:05I need you to be wrong
00:41:07if you and I
00:41:08are both going
00:41:09for the same
00:41:11girl
00:41:11as teenagers
00:41:12we're both trying to date
00:41:13the same girl
00:41:15and
00:41:16you get a big
00:41:17breakout of pimples
00:41:18sorry
00:41:18I'm happy
00:41:20as a teenager
00:41:21now much more mature
00:41:22right
00:41:23but let's say
00:41:23or let's say
00:41:24you go up
00:41:25and you ask her out
00:41:27and
00:41:28she
00:41:28shoots you down
00:41:29right
00:41:30I'm happy
00:41:30because now
00:41:31I have more of a chance
00:41:32sorry
00:41:33it's just the way that it is
00:41:33if we both want the same thing
00:41:35which is happiness
00:41:35but we
00:41:36we're opposites
00:41:37in that if you get the girl
00:41:38I don't
00:41:38if I get the girl
00:41:39you don't
00:41:39let's hope it's not Cornell
00:41:40right
00:41:41and so
00:41:45in order to
00:41:48win
00:41:49in a zero-sum game
00:41:51the other person
00:41:51has to lose
00:41:54and so
00:41:55you really have to ask
00:41:56this basic question
00:41:57in your life
00:41:58I think it's
00:41:58one of the most
00:41:59essential questions
00:42:00that it took me
00:42:00an embarrassingly long time
00:42:01to ask in my life
00:42:02which is
00:42:02I have very little
00:42:04excuse for it
00:42:04other than
00:42:05I didn't have this show
00:42:06I'm trying to explain
00:42:07based upon that
00:42:08but
00:42:11it's really essential
00:42:12in your life
00:42:12that you sit down
00:42:13like do this
00:42:14with like
00:42:15get a
00:42:17get a big piece of paper
00:42:18and say okay
00:42:19this is
00:42:19these are the people
00:42:20in my life
00:42:20and put the 10
00:42:2120 30 people
00:42:22in your life
00:42:22or whatever
00:42:23like if you have
00:42:23some significant effect
00:42:24on you
00:42:25that you have
00:42:25some choice
00:42:26over necessarily
00:42:26or people who
00:42:27influence you
00:42:28could be a boss
00:42:28or something
00:42:29right
00:42:29and you say
00:42:30okay here's
00:42:31what do I believe
00:42:31you know
00:42:31put five points down
00:42:32I believe this
00:42:33this this and this
00:42:33what do these people
00:42:34believe
00:42:38I had a friend
00:42:39when I was younger
00:42:40who was extremely
00:42:42cynical
00:42:43and very funny
00:42:44and cynicism
00:42:45plus humor
00:42:46I mean that's
00:42:47the George Carlin curse
00:42:48right
00:42:48cynicism
00:42:48plus humor
00:42:49is extremely toxic
00:42:50and I had someone
00:42:52in my life
00:42:52when I was younger
00:42:53who was very cynical
00:42:54very negative
00:42:55and didn't believe
00:42:56in objective truth
00:43:01if he was right
00:43:03then I was deluded
00:43:04in believing
00:43:05in objective truth
00:43:06and reason
00:43:06and virtue
00:43:07that is absolute
00:43:09and universal
00:43:09so if
00:43:12he was right
00:43:14then I was
00:43:16rigid
00:43:17immature
00:43:19backwards
00:43:20and intolerant
00:43:21right
00:43:24it would be
00:43:25like saying
00:43:26that the only
00:43:27moral color
00:43:28is royal blue
00:43:29and everyone else
00:43:30who prefers
00:43:31any other color
00:43:31is just weird
00:43:32and bad
00:43:33and immoral
00:43:33like that would be
00:43:35kind of crazy
00:43:35right
00:43:36because
00:43:37color is a subjective
00:43:38taste
00:43:39and 10% of adult males
00:43:40are colorblind
00:43:40anyway
00:43:41but can't perceive
00:43:42royal blue
00:43:43so it would be
00:43:44something that irrational
00:43:47or you know
00:43:48if I were to say
00:43:49the sports team
00:43:50that's closest to me
00:43:52geographically
00:43:52is the moral
00:43:53and the good team
00:43:54and every other sports team
00:43:55is corrupt and immoral
00:43:56that would be kind of crazy
00:43:57right
00:43:57I mean you can cheer
00:43:58for your team
00:43:58but nobody thinks
00:43:59it's kind of like
00:43:59a moral issue
00:44:00right
00:44:00the other team
00:44:01is evil
00:44:01although sports movies
00:44:03usually portray it
00:44:04that way
00:44:06but
00:44:09if
00:44:10my friend
00:44:11when I was younger
00:44:11was right
00:44:12about his subjectivism
00:44:13and his cynicism
00:44:14and his humor
00:44:15which is often uncorked
00:44:16by a relaxation
00:44:18of objective standards
00:44:19because
00:44:20you rolled your eyes
00:44:21and everything is funny
00:44:22and foolish
00:44:24so if he was right
00:44:26then
00:44:28I was
00:44:30intolerant
00:44:30and
00:44:31you know
00:44:32like a crazy
00:44:35you know
00:44:35the sort of stereotype
00:44:36of the
00:44:37the Quakers
00:44:38or the pilgrims
00:44:39it's like
00:44:41you were humming
00:44:41a secular song
00:44:43you must be beaten
00:44:44you know
00:44:44like
00:44:44that kind of stuff
00:44:45right
00:44:46but if I was right
00:44:47and reality is objective
00:44:49reason comes from matter
00:44:50and energy
00:44:50and virtue is universal
00:44:52then
00:44:54he would have
00:44:56a
00:44:57a bad life
00:45:02and
00:45:03if he was right
00:45:04then I would have
00:45:05a bad life
00:45:09so unfortunately
00:45:12he had to be wrong
00:45:14I mean
00:45:14I think
00:45:15logically
00:45:16philosophically
00:45:17and morally
00:45:17through UPB
00:45:18I've proven
00:45:19secular ethics
00:45:20so he'd have to be wrong
00:45:26it's a zero-sum game
00:45:27we can't both be happy
00:45:29we can't both be right
00:45:30because we have opposite
00:45:32views
00:45:38and
00:45:38obviously
00:45:39don't want to go into details
00:45:41but
00:45:41yeah
00:45:42he had a bad life
00:45:45he had a bad life
00:45:49you have to know
00:45:50if the people around you
00:45:51are rooting for you
00:45:52or rooting against you
00:45:53I'm not saying
00:45:53it's a conscious thing
00:45:54necessarily
00:45:56but you have to know
00:45:58if the people around you
00:45:59are rooting for you
00:46:00or rooting against you
00:46:02right
00:46:02with regards to drinking
00:46:03or drugs
00:46:04or promiscuity
00:46:06the people who do that
00:46:07are constantly undermining
00:46:08everybody else's
00:46:10monogamy
00:46:10and pair bonding
00:46:12ah
00:46:12you gotta have some fun
00:46:13you gotta make some mistakes
00:46:14no good story ever started with
00:46:16I had a salad
00:46:17and went to church
00:46:17right
00:46:17you gotta
00:46:18let loose a little
00:46:19you gotta travel
00:46:20you gotta
00:46:20goof it up
00:46:21you gotta mess around
00:46:22you gotta
00:46:22like there's some really
00:46:24trashy
00:46:25little TikTok
00:46:26or somewhere on the video platforms
00:46:28there's some guy
00:46:29who's like
00:46:30yeah
00:46:30you know
00:46:31I'm a single guy
00:46:32I'm in my 30s
00:46:33and I have a great time
00:46:34you know
00:46:34I went out for dinner
00:46:35with some friends
00:46:35we had some steaks
00:46:36we played some pool
00:46:37and there's like
00:46:38the pool
00:46:38all scattering
00:46:39and you know
00:46:39yeah like kids
00:46:41you know
00:46:41I went over to
00:46:42my friend's place
00:46:43played with his kids
00:46:44for a little bit
00:46:44left before the meltdowns happened
00:46:46went home
00:46:46you know
00:46:47watched some Netflix
00:46:48chilled
00:46:48you know
00:46:49and went to sleep early
00:46:50it was great
00:46:51you know
00:46:51this sort of selling
00:46:52of this like
00:46:53hedonistic solitary
00:46:55isolated
00:46:56life
00:46:56because the quality people
00:46:58as you age
00:46:58get peeled off
00:46:59and go into relationships
00:47:00and actually
00:47:00fall in love
00:47:01and raise children
00:47:02and do productive
00:47:03and meaningful things
00:47:04in terms of the continuity
00:47:06of the bloodline
00:47:06whereas the frivolous people
00:47:08end up with more
00:47:09and more
00:47:11foolish and
00:47:12dysfunctional people
00:47:13around them
00:47:13because the functional people
00:47:14are in pair-bonded relationships
00:47:16but
00:47:17that is
00:47:19spreading
00:47:21hedonism
00:47:21and isolation
00:47:23right
00:47:23there are these other videos
00:47:24where you know
00:47:25the woman's about to put on
00:47:26an engagement ring
00:47:26she puts on the engagement ring
00:47:28and suddenly there's
00:47:28screaming babies
00:47:29she's got to scrub toilets
00:47:30and mop floors
00:47:31and she takes it off
00:47:32and when she takes it off
00:47:33she's like running through
00:47:33waterfalls in Bali
00:47:34in a perfectly
00:47:36perfectly coiffed hair
00:47:37and a lean figure
00:47:38in a swimsuit
00:47:40and so on
00:47:40right
00:47:40and it's like
00:47:41just
00:47:42sabotage
00:47:43right
00:47:43sabotage
00:47:44this is not just true of friends
00:47:45this is true of
00:47:46ethnicities
00:47:47this is true of cultures
00:47:48this is true of religions
00:47:49right
00:47:50if you're in a religion
00:47:52and you believe that religion
00:47:53is the one true path
00:47:54then everybody else has to fail
00:47:56everybody else
00:47:56the people who follow your religion
00:47:58have to succeed
00:47:59and everybody else has to fail
00:48:00it's just a fact
00:48:02it's just a fact
00:48:04I have
00:48:06put thousands of
00:48:07tens of thousands of hours
00:48:08into diet and exercise
00:48:13it would be a real drag
00:48:14if that turned out
00:48:16to be a complete waste of time
00:48:17or counterproductive
00:48:23right
00:48:25I mean they want to put
00:48:27mRNA vaccines into cows
00:48:29so the cows fart less
00:48:31less methane
00:48:32global warming
00:48:33I think it's all
00:48:34I personally think it's all nonsense
00:48:35I'm not a scientist of course
00:48:37but I think it's all nonsense
00:48:37I think it's just getting people to
00:48:39avoid eating meat
00:48:40because when you avoid eating meat
00:48:42your testosterone
00:48:43and your manliness
00:48:44and energy
00:48:45and all of that
00:48:46goes down
00:48:47and you end up eating
00:48:48a lot of soy tofu
00:48:49so anyway
00:48:52are the people around you
00:48:56united and invested
00:48:57in your success
00:48:59or
00:48:59if they have opposite values to you
00:49:03right
00:49:03if you value honesty
00:49:05and they value
00:49:07everybody avoiding the truth
00:49:08so they can quote
00:49:09get along
00:49:11you're in opposition
00:49:12it's win-lose
00:49:14because if you tell the truth
00:49:16they get angry
00:49:17because you're
00:49:17sowing seeds of division
00:49:18and causing trouble
00:49:19and why not let it go
00:49:20it's in the past
00:49:21move on
00:49:21right
00:49:21they get anxious
00:49:23tense and upset
00:49:24whereas if they
00:49:26get you to believe
00:49:27and act
00:49:28as if the truth
00:49:28doesn't matter
00:49:29and the only thing
00:49:29that matters
00:49:30is not upsetting anyone
00:49:31especially the least mature
00:49:32around you
00:49:33and the most corrupt
00:49:34around you
00:49:34who are always the ones
00:49:35who manipulate
00:49:37and deploy upset
00:49:38as a form of control
00:49:41then you lose
00:49:42you sit around
00:49:44fighting your instincts
00:49:47saying nothing
00:49:48letting
00:49:50fools and the corrupt
00:49:51and possibly the immoral
00:49:53dominate the conversation
00:49:54feeling
00:49:56bullied
00:49:57controlled
00:49:57dominated
00:49:58subjugated
00:49:59giving up on your values
00:50:00so
00:50:02if you win
00:50:03and tell the truth
00:50:04then the people
00:50:05dedicated to lies
00:50:07and compliance
00:50:07get angry
00:50:08and upset
00:50:10and if you
00:50:12lie and falsify
00:50:13in order to
00:50:14quote get along
00:50:14and not cause trouble
00:50:15then you feel humiliated
00:50:17as you should be
00:50:17you are being humiliated
00:50:18you're abandoning the truth
00:50:19for the sake of
00:50:21neurotic
00:50:22conformity
00:50:22and avoiding
00:50:24upsetting those
00:50:26right
00:50:26you know the old saying
00:50:27if you want to
00:50:28offend a
00:50:29conservative lie to him
00:50:30if you want to
00:50:31offend a liberal
00:50:32tell her the truth
00:50:34I mean
00:50:34it's not
00:50:35quite that simple
00:50:36of course right
00:50:36but
00:50:37immoral people
00:50:38don't fear the truth
00:50:39immoral people
00:50:40hate the truth
00:50:40so you are
00:50:41surrendering
00:50:42that which
00:50:43spreads virtue
00:50:44in the world
00:50:44for that which
00:50:46subsidizes corruption
00:50:47in the world
00:50:47it's humiliating
00:50:48it's terrible
00:50:51you've got to
00:50:52put this diagram out
00:50:53who in my life
00:50:55is heavily invested
00:50:56in my success
00:50:57because we share
00:50:58the same values
00:50:59I want
00:51:01my listeners
00:51:02I want you guys
00:51:03to succeed
00:51:04and I get the emails
00:51:06of like
00:51:06hey man
00:51:07I got into philosophy
00:51:08I just got one
00:51:09yesterday
00:51:10I got into philosophy
00:51:11years ago
00:51:12and man
00:51:13you know
00:51:13my life turned around
00:51:14I'm now happily married
00:51:15I've got two kids
00:51:16I'm doing well in my career
00:51:17and it's like
00:51:20fantastic
00:51:21fantastic
00:51:22I want that
00:51:24and of course
00:51:25I've heard from people
00:51:27over the years
00:51:27who's like
00:51:28you know
00:51:28I hated your show
00:51:29for years
00:51:30you know
00:51:30I believed all the lies
00:51:31about you
00:51:32I hated
00:51:32what you were doing
00:51:33I thought you were this
00:51:34that and the other
00:51:35terrible guy
00:51:35terrible guy
00:51:36terrible guy
00:51:37and you know
00:51:38I got further
00:51:39into drug addiction
00:51:40and I ended up
00:51:40in a terrible
00:51:42social circle
00:51:43where everyone
00:51:43was just bitter
00:51:44and negative
00:51:45and you know
00:51:46I barely got out
00:51:46and you know
00:51:47I'm sort of trying
00:51:47to rebuild my life
00:51:48and it's like
00:51:49no
00:51:50I don't want people
00:51:51to do that
00:51:51I don't want people
00:51:52to reject philosophy
00:51:53but if they do
00:51:54reject philosophy
00:51:56they have to have
00:51:57a bad time
00:52:01sorry
00:52:03it's like physics
00:52:04like
00:52:05it's like reality
00:52:08you know
00:52:08if somebody
00:52:10needs
00:52:102000 calories
00:52:11a day
00:52:12but they eat
00:52:135000 calories
00:52:14a day
00:52:15do we need them
00:52:16to gain weight
00:52:17yeah
00:52:18we kind of do
00:52:22because they're
00:52:22eating what
00:52:23two and a half
00:52:23times their
00:52:24calorie requirements
00:52:25right
00:52:25so if somebody
00:52:28needs 2000 calories
00:52:29eats 5000 calories
00:52:30and they don't
00:52:31gain any weight
00:52:35something's entirely
00:52:36wrong with the
00:52:36universe
00:52:36like physics
00:52:37doesn't make any sense
00:52:38energy
00:52:39biology
00:52:40nutrition
00:52:41none of it
00:52:42makes any sense
00:52:42now we have
00:52:43a physical
00:52:44impossibility
00:52:45which is eating
00:52:46way more calories
00:52:47than you burn
00:52:48and not gaining
00:52:49any weight
00:52:49that would be
00:52:49insane
00:52:51crazy
00:52:53so we kind of
00:52:54need people
00:52:55who massively
00:52:55overeat
00:52:56to gain weight
00:52:56otherwise reality
00:52:57doesn't make any
00:52:58sense
00:52:58and this is a show
00:53:00called secret eaters
00:53:01where people say
00:53:02yes this is how much
00:53:03I eat in a day
00:53:03I don't know what
00:53:04happens man
00:53:04I just can't lose
00:53:05the weight
00:53:06I'm dieting
00:53:07I'm doing the right
00:53:08things
00:53:08and they're just
00:53:09putting this stuff
00:53:09out there
00:53:10like physics
00:53:11no longer works
00:53:13right
00:53:14I have an effect
00:53:16without a cause
00:53:16I have a perpetual
00:53:18motion machine
00:53:19I eat only 1500
00:53:22calories and burn
00:53:232000 calories
00:53:24yet mysteriously
00:53:26cells pop in from
00:53:27another universe
00:53:28and I gain weight
00:53:29right
00:53:30it's an assault
00:53:30upon basic reality
00:53:31and of course
00:53:32every time they do
00:53:33this show
00:53:33they actually hire
00:53:34private investigators
00:53:35to follow people
00:53:36around and record
00:53:36what they eat
00:53:37and everyone's
00:53:38being a pick
00:53:39I mean they're
00:53:40just lying
00:53:41just lying
00:53:41I don't know
00:53:42I'm dieting man
00:53:43I keep gaining weight
00:53:44it's the weirdest thing
00:53:46you know
00:53:47it's uh
00:53:47it's weird
00:53:48you know
00:53:49like every
00:53:49every day
00:53:50I'm still susceptible
00:53:50to gravity
00:53:51it's weird man
00:53:52like I did a show
00:53:53I was yesterday
00:53:54or the day before
00:53:55oh the day before
00:53:55a guy
00:53:56some of the best
00:53:57questions I've ever
00:53:57received in my
00:53:58entire career
00:53:59just some
00:53:59listener booked a show
00:54:01and had some
00:54:01just fantastic questions
00:54:03and he said
00:54:04you know
00:54:04I mean think of gravity
00:54:05it's absurd
00:54:06it's like
00:54:06no it's really not
00:54:07it's not absurd
00:54:08because gravity is absurd
00:54:09compared to what
00:54:12and so
00:54:13if people are
00:54:15pickishly overeating
00:54:16they need to gain weight
00:54:18when they have to gain weight
00:54:19I don't want them
00:54:19to gain weight
00:54:20I don't want them
00:54:20to overeat
00:54:22but if they do overeat
00:54:23I need them to gain weight
00:54:24so that
00:54:26reality holds together
00:54:27rationality holds together
00:54:28cause and effect
00:54:29holds together
00:54:30so that the world
00:54:31is not an asylum
00:54:32not of people
00:54:32but of
00:54:34natural forces
00:54:41I mean
00:54:42if a woman
00:54:42gets pregnant
00:54:43I kind of
00:54:44need for her
00:54:45to have been
00:54:45impregnated by someone
00:54:46call me old fashioned
00:54:47well I guess
00:54:48really old fashioned
00:54:49is not so much
00:54:51so
00:54:51we need
00:54:52people to fail
00:54:53who have opposite values
00:54:55desperately
00:54:56need them to fail
00:54:56and are you surrounded
00:54:58by people like that
00:55:01any advice
00:55:02to unattractive
00:55:03but in shape men
00:55:05seeking
00:55:06a long term partner
00:55:07in today's dating market
00:55:08yeah
00:55:09you look smudge
00:55:10yeah
00:55:11you look smudge
00:55:12and as you age
00:55:13you have to lower your standards
00:55:15because your standards
00:55:16generally are declining
00:55:17I don't know
00:55:18if this is a male
00:55:19or a female
00:55:20I think it's a male
00:55:22Barney
00:55:22or a dinosaur
00:55:24one of the two
00:55:24so find another purple dinosaur
00:55:26and settle down
00:55:27who's got a similar
00:55:27hip to waist ratio
00:55:28and looks like a lima bean
00:55:29with fur
00:55:32why did Barney the dinosaur
00:55:33have fur
00:55:37it's a reptile
00:55:37not a mammal
00:55:39oh well
00:55:39we'll plumb that
00:55:40in another show
00:55:42so yeah
00:55:43you just have to
00:55:44you have
00:55:45you lower your standards
00:55:46until someone will
00:55:47will have you
00:55:49you lower your standards
00:55:50until someone will have you
00:55:51I mean if I said
00:55:52yes I will come
00:55:53and speak at your event
00:55:54but it's going to cost you
00:55:55a million dollars
00:55:56okay maybe if I was
00:55:57the band
00:55:58the Eagles in their prime
00:55:59you could get
00:56:00you know a couple of million bucks
00:56:01or whatever
00:56:02for some
00:56:02playing some private party
00:56:03but
00:56:06nobody's going to pay me
00:56:07a million dollars
00:56:08to come
00:56:08to come and speak
00:56:10at their event
00:56:10right
00:56:11so if I wanted to make a living
00:56:13as a public speaker
00:56:13I would have to lower
00:56:15my price
00:56:16until
00:56:17people hired me
00:56:20at certain points
00:56:21in my career
00:56:21I might have had to pay people
00:56:23please let me in
00:56:25but
00:56:27it's easy
00:56:28like you just
00:56:29you lower your standards
00:56:30until people say yes
00:56:31and that's a hard process
00:56:34how do I get paid
00:56:35a million dollars
00:56:36for
00:56:37watching
00:56:38Instagram reels
00:56:39well
00:56:40I guess
00:56:41you could apply
00:56:42for those jobs
00:56:42or you could try
00:56:43and get those jobs
00:56:44but
00:56:44I assume
00:56:45that those jobs
00:56:46exist for people
00:56:47like Markiplier
00:56:48who have
00:56:48you know
00:56:49billions of viewers
00:56:49or whatever it is
00:56:50right
00:56:52but if you want to get paid
00:56:53a million dollars a year
00:56:54for browsing
00:56:55Instagram reels
00:56:56you're going to have to
00:56:57change your expectations
00:56:58because that's not going to happen
00:57:00how do I date
00:57:01a supermodel
00:57:02well
00:57:04maybe if you move
00:57:05in those circles
00:57:05and maybe if you're
00:57:06full of excessive charisma
00:57:08or something
00:57:08like maybe a Billy Joel
00:57:09or something
00:57:11some anti-Christian nut job
00:57:12so
00:57:17you just
00:57:17you just lower
00:57:19it's hard
00:57:20right
00:57:20it's hard
00:57:21because we all feel
00:57:22magical and wonderful
00:57:22to ourselves
00:57:24but you have to
00:57:25lower expectations
00:57:27lower your standards
00:57:28until someone says yes
00:57:30I mean
00:57:31if you've got
00:57:31a tiny little condo
00:57:33and you want to
00:57:33sell it for 10 million dollars
00:57:35you're not going to
00:57:36find a buyer
00:57:36you have to
00:57:38lower your price
00:57:40until someone
00:57:40buys your condo
00:57:43that's just a fact
00:57:45and of course
00:57:45you know
00:57:46and the funny thing is too
00:57:47like you get used to
00:57:48your own looks
00:57:48in life
00:57:49because you look in the mirror
00:57:50all the time
00:57:51you shave
00:57:51or moisturize
00:57:52hope you moisturize
00:57:53so you get used to
00:57:54your own looks
00:57:55so you look a little
00:57:56you look a little bit
00:57:57less unusual to yourself
00:57:58every day
00:58:00but other people
00:58:01don't have your history
00:58:02of getting used to your looks
00:58:03so they look at you
00:58:04for the first time
00:58:05and so
00:58:06you will look
00:58:08usually
00:58:08you will look
00:58:09less attractive to strangers
00:58:10than you do to yourself
00:58:11in the mirror
00:58:12right
00:58:13and men don't
00:58:13have the makeup option
00:58:14or whatever
00:58:15I guess you can grow a beard
00:58:15or something
00:58:16but we have haircuts
00:58:17or our makeup
00:58:18right
00:58:19so
00:58:21you
00:58:23you know
00:58:23in person
00:58:24or in dating apps
00:58:25or wherever you're going
00:58:26to meet women
00:58:27you
00:58:28you do what everyone does
00:58:29and everyone has done
00:58:31all throughout history
00:58:32which is you start
00:58:33at the top
00:58:34and you work your way down
00:58:36until
00:58:39you get someone
00:58:39who will say
00:58:40yes
00:58:41when I was in high school
00:58:43junior high even
00:58:43I started
00:58:44I started at the very top
00:58:45right
00:58:46the it girl
00:58:47the top girl
00:58:47the girl
00:58:48that everybody wanted to date
00:58:49and I asked her out
00:58:50and she said no
00:58:50so then I went to the second tier
00:58:52this is how I know
00:58:52I was never a 10
00:58:53right
00:58:54so then I go to the second tier
00:58:55and the second tier
00:58:57they would go out with me
00:58:59in fact
00:59:00they seem quite eager
00:59:00to go out with me
00:59:02I mean
00:59:02I was
00:59:02I was on the swim team
00:59:04cross country team
00:59:04played tennis
00:59:05had a good tan
00:59:06beautiful blonde hair
00:59:07blue eyes
00:59:08square jaw
00:59:09I wasn't a 10
00:59:09I get that
00:59:10but you know
00:59:11I was definitely
00:59:12an 8 or a 9
00:59:13because I didn't know that
00:59:14because the 8 or the 9s
00:59:16went out with me
00:59:17but the 10s wouldn't
00:59:19totally fine
00:59:22and then I
00:59:23when I lost my hair
00:59:25it obviously went down
00:59:26it doesn't really matter now
00:59:27because most guys
00:59:28in their 60s
00:59:28have little hair left
00:59:29but
00:59:31so you just
00:59:33one of the great
00:59:35one of the great
00:59:39hidden talents
00:59:40powers
00:59:40and abilities
00:59:41in this life
00:59:41is just lower your standards
00:59:44and it's tough for women
00:59:45because women are all like
00:59:47don't surrender
00:59:47don't don't compromise
00:59:48you know
00:59:48if you hold out
00:59:49you'll get the very best
00:59:51no you won't
00:59:52you really won't
00:59:53you know
00:59:53I've got this
00:59:54this condo
00:59:54that's 550 square feet
00:59:56and I want 10 million dollars
00:59:57for it
00:59:57I'm gonna hold out
00:59:59I'm not gonna compromise
01:00:00I'm not gonna settle
01:00:01it's like then
01:00:01you're not gonna sell
01:00:02your apartment
01:00:03right
01:00:05you're not gonna sell
01:00:06your apartment
01:00:08you do
01:00:08you have to compromise
01:00:10I mean
01:00:11would I like
01:00:12I don't know
01:00:13a billion viewers
01:00:14of my live streams
01:00:15I don't know
01:00:16probably not actually
01:00:17come to think of it
01:00:19but
01:00:20I mean
01:00:21there were times
01:00:21when I was
01:00:23after I was deplatformed
01:00:24where I was live streaming
01:00:25to very few people
01:00:30especially after I gave up
01:00:31on politics
01:00:32or withdrew from politics
01:00:37if I wanted more
01:00:38watchers
01:00:39I would have gone back
01:00:40into politics
01:00:41but for a variety
01:00:42of reasons
01:00:42I didn't
01:00:43so
01:00:45it's a great
01:00:46secret superpower
01:00:47to lower your standards
01:00:48if I said
01:00:49well I'm not gonna
01:00:49live stream
01:00:50unless I get
01:00:51100,000
01:00:52simultaneous viewers
01:00:52I'm not gonna settle
01:00:54for anything less
01:00:54then I just don't
01:00:55live stream
01:00:58I just don't
01:00:58live stream
01:01:00I just don't
01:01:01live stream
01:01:06lower your standards
01:01:07it's amazing
01:01:08what lowering
01:01:09your standards
01:01:09can do
01:01:12lowering your standards
01:01:14can result
01:01:14in far
01:01:15better things
01:01:17so some guy
01:01:18who says
01:01:19well I'm only gonna
01:01:20date a 10
01:01:21let's say he's a 6
01:01:22right
01:01:22I'm only gonna
01:01:23date a 10
01:01:23well you just don't
01:01:24get to date
01:01:24you don't get to date
01:01:25at all
01:01:27in fact
01:01:28you end up
01:01:29with less
01:01:30because women
01:01:31who are looks
01:01:31matching to you
01:01:32you're a 6
01:01:33there are other
01:01:34women out there
01:01:34who are
01:01:376s
01:01:37and they see you
01:01:38going after the
01:01:3910s
01:01:40and they know
01:01:41that you're delusional
01:01:42and they also know
01:01:43that you're then
01:01:44gonna feel like
01:01:45you're bitterly
01:01:46and regretfully
01:01:47settling for a mere
01:01:496 or 7
01:01:50right
01:01:51and that
01:01:51you're gonna be
01:01:52discontented
01:01:52and all of that
01:01:53right
01:01:53so they don't
01:01:54want to date you
01:01:55so you can't
01:01:56get the 10s
01:01:56the 6s don't
01:01:57want to date you
01:01:57because they
01:01:58want to date
01:01:58other reasonable
01:01:596s who know
01:01:59that there are
01:02:006s
01:02:00so the 6s
01:02:01aren't gonna
01:02:01date you
01:02:02so then you
01:02:02have to go
01:02:03down to the
01:02:033s and the
01:02:044s
01:02:04so aiming
01:02:04too high
01:02:05you end up
01:02:05lower
01:02:06so compromise
01:02:08is not
01:02:08lower your
01:02:09standards and
01:02:09get less
01:02:11it's actually
01:02:12have realistic
01:02:12standards and
01:02:13get more
01:02:16if you go
01:02:16for a job
01:02:17delivering pizza
01:02:18and you say
01:02:19I demand
01:02:20a thousand
01:02:20dollars an
01:02:21hour
01:02:21you get
01:02:22nothing
01:02:25right
01:02:26it's
01:02:26I'm not
01:02:27saying lower
01:02:27your standards
01:02:27to get less
01:02:28that's not
01:02:29the argument
01:02:30that's not a
01:02:30real argument
01:02:32lower your
01:02:32standards to
01:02:33get more
01:02:34lower your
01:02:35standards to
01:02:35get more
01:02:37if you're a
01:02:376 and you
01:02:38looks match
01:02:39with a 6
01:02:39I mean I
01:02:40think my
01:02:40wife and I
01:02:41looks match
01:02:41right
01:02:42I think
01:02:44and if
01:02:45you are
01:02:46a 6
01:02:47and you go
01:02:47for 10
01:02:48you end up
01:02:48with a 3
01:02:49or a 4
01:02:50because you
01:02:50look crazy
01:02:51to the 6
01:02:52as they
01:02:52don't want
01:02:52to date
01:02:52you
01:02:54what I'm
01:02:54saying is
01:02:54compromise
01:02:55to get
01:02:55the most
01:02:55that you
01:02:56can get
01:02:57right
01:02:58if you're
01:02:58a 6
01:02:58and you
01:02:59work out
01:02:59or whatever
01:02:59and you
01:03:00have a
01:03:00decent job
01:03:01and you're
01:03:02a decent
01:03:02person
01:03:02a good
01:03:03person
01:03:03then you
01:03:04maybe get
01:03:04a 7
01:03:04maybe get
01:03:05maybe even
01:03:05get an 8
01:03:06but if you
01:03:07go for the
01:03:0710s
01:03:08you get
01:03:08a 3
01:03:08or 4
01:03:09if you
01:03:09go
01:03:10for looks
01:03:11matching
01:03:11if you lower
01:03:12your standards
01:03:12from the
01:03:1310s
01:03:13to the
01:03:139s
01:03:14to the
01:03:148s
01:03:14to the
01:03:147s
01:03:15you might
01:03:20so compromise
01:03:21is to get
01:03:22the most
01:03:22you can get
01:03:23lower your
01:03:24standards
01:03:24because
01:03:25your standards
01:03:26get you
01:03:26nothing
01:03:27you end up
01:03:28with nothing
01:03:30or much
01:03:31lower than
01:03:31you otherwise
01:03:32would have
01:03:32gotten
01:03:35I mean
01:03:35if you
01:03:36advertise
01:03:36a 500
01:03:37square foot
01:03:37condo
01:03:38at 10
01:03:38million
01:03:38dollars
01:03:38nobody's
01:03:39going to
01:03:39give you
01:03:39an offer
01:03:41nothing
01:03:41nobody's
01:03:42going to
01:03:42give you
01:03:42an offer
01:03:44and then
01:03:44if you're
01:03:44desperate
01:03:45you might
01:03:45have to
01:03:45just
01:03:45sell
01:03:46for
01:03:47$100,000
01:03:48or whatever
01:03:49you might
01:03:49sell
01:03:50because
01:03:50you're
01:03:50desperate
01:03:51whereas
01:03:52if you
01:03:52say
01:03:52let me
01:03:53do my
01:03:53market
01:03:54research
01:03:54I can
01:03:54probably
01:03:55get
01:03:56$140,000
01:03:57maybe
01:03:57$150,000
01:03:58for this
01:03:58place
01:04:00so I'm
01:04:00going to
01:04:01do my
01:04:01research
01:04:01I'm
01:04:01going to
01:04:02put it
01:04:02out
01:04:02at $160,000
01:04:03maybe I'll
01:04:03negotiate
01:04:04down to
01:04:04$140,000
01:04:05so you
01:04:05get $140,000
01:04:06but if
01:04:07you say
01:04:07$10,000,000
01:04:07nobody's
01:04:08going to
01:04:08want to
01:04:08deal with
01:04:09you
01:04:09at all
01:04:09because
01:04:09you're
01:04:09crazy
01:04:10and so
01:04:11you don't
01:04:11get
01:04:11anything
01:04:12and then
01:04:12eventually
01:04:12you have
01:04:12to panic
01:04:13sell
01:04:19in Dubai
01:04:20it's opening
01:04:20up or
01:04:20whatever
01:04:21so then
01:04:22you get
01:04:22$100,000
01:04:23so when
01:04:23I say
01:04:23lower your
01:04:24standards
01:04:24I'm not
01:04:25saying
01:04:25lower what
01:04:26you can
01:04:27get
01:04:27I'm saying
01:04:27maximize
01:04:28what you
01:04:29can get
01:04:29by lowering
01:04:30your standards
01:04:30because if
01:04:31your standards
01:04:31are too high
01:04:32you just
01:04:32look crazy
01:04:32and people
01:04:33don't want
01:04:33to deal
01:04:33with you
01:04:34and I
01:04:35say this
01:04:35myself
01:04:36having had
01:04:36crazy high
01:04:37standards
01:04:37in the past
01:04:37so I
01:04:38say this
01:04:38with all due
01:04:39humility
01:04:39and it
01:04:39went on
01:04:40for too
01:04:40long
01:04:42so when
01:04:42I say
01:04:43lower your
01:04:43standards
01:04:44so you
01:04:45can get
01:04:45the maximum
01:04:47benefit
01:04:47right
01:04:47I mean
01:04:48if you go
01:04:48into the gym
01:04:49and you
01:04:49say I
01:04:49immediately
01:04:50want to
01:04:50bench press
01:04:50400 pounds
01:04:51you're just
01:04:51going to
01:04:52injure yourself
01:04:52it's your
01:04:52first time
01:04:53in the gym
01:04:53you're just
01:04:53going to
01:04:53injure yourself
01:04:54I'm saying
01:04:55lower your
01:04:55standards
01:04:56so that you
01:04:57can actually
01:04:57lift your
01:04:58maximum weight
01:04:59over time
01:05:00right
01:05:02if you say
01:05:02well I've
01:05:03never run
01:05:03before
01:05:03and I'm
01:05:04going to
01:05:04join a
01:05:04marathon
01:05:04and sprint
01:05:05my way
01:05:05through it
01:05:06all you're
01:05:06going to
01:05:06do is
01:05:06get
01:05:07injured
01:05:07that's
01:05:08all you're
01:05:08going to
01:05:08do
01:05:10and I'm
01:05:11coughing up
01:05:11whatever
01:05:12innards
01:05:13you have
01:05:13but you're
01:05:13just going
01:05:14to get
01:05:15injured
01:05:16so I'm
01:05:17saying
01:05:17lower your
01:05:18standards
01:05:18hey I
01:05:18haven't
01:05:19exercised
01:05:19I've got
01:05:19to lower
01:05:19my
01:05:20standards
01:05:20I've got
01:05:20to build
01:05:21this up
01:05:21bit by
01:05:21bit
01:05:23lowering
01:05:23your
01:05:23standards
01:05:24is
01:05:25getting
01:05:26the
01:05:26absolute
01:05:27maximum
01:05:27that you
01:05:28can get
01:05:30standards
01:05:30too high
01:05:30lead you
01:05:31off a
01:05:31cliff
01:05:32and you
01:05:32end up
01:05:32with much
01:05:33less
01:05:34much less
01:05:35if you
01:05:35come in
01:05:35and say
01:05:36I will
01:05:36deliver
01:05:36pizza
01:05:37but I
01:05:38need a
01:05:38thousand
01:05:39dollars
01:05:39an hour
01:05:39to do
01:05:39it
01:05:40you're
01:05:40not
01:05:40going
01:05:40to
01:05:40get
01:05:40hired
01:05:40and then
01:05:41word's
01:05:41going
01:05:41to
01:05:41spread
01:05:41that
01:05:42you're
01:05:42crazy
01:05:43and
01:05:43entitled
01:05:43and
01:05:44demanding
01:05:44and then
01:05:45you're
01:05:46not
01:05:46going
01:05:46to
01:05:46get
01:05:46any
01:05:46job
01:05:46offers
01:05:47or
01:05:47if
01:05:47you
01:05:47do
01:05:47they're
01:05:47going
01:05:48to
01:05:48be
01:05:48lower
01:05:48than
01:05:48the
01:05:48pizza
01:05:48place
01:05:49because
01:05:49they have
01:05:49to take
01:05:50into
01:05:50account
01:05:50your
01:05:50craziness
01:05:51and
01:05:52lack
01:05:52of
01:05:53basic
01:05:53reality
01:05:54processing
01:05:54and your
01:05:54vanity
01:05:55and so
01:05:55on
01:05:55right
01:05:56so
01:05:57when I
01:05:57say
01:05:57lower
01:05:57your
01:05:58standards
01:05:58it's
01:05:59so
01:05:59that
01:05:59you
01:05:59can
01:05:59get
01:05:59maximum
01:06:00returns
01:06:02if
01:06:03you
01:06:03say
01:06:03well
