You told everyone about your big plan, and somehow it never happened. Robert Greene's The 48 Laws of Power has two laws for exactly this. Law 3: Conceal Your Intentions. Law 4: Always Say Less Than Necessary.

Cousins Leo and Nina each decide to make a big change in the same year. Leo announces his bakery dream at a family dinner; Nina tells nobody until she has the keys to her first home. In ancient Rome, the war hero Coriolanus is loved while he stays quiet, then talks his way into losing an election and being thrown out of Rome. Louis XIV answers requests with just three words: "I shall see." Otto von Bismarck praises peace in parliament while hiding his real goal until he has the power to act. Then: three reasons talking too early hurts, why going completely silent can backfire, and four tips: keep big plans close until there's something real, have a friendly answer ready, share with helpers instead of an audience, and say what matters, then stop.
