Transcript
00:00And we've got some big changes on the way as we head toward the upcoming weekend.
00:06Certainly a better weekend than we had this weekend, but it's going to be a colder one as well.
00:12I want to show you what is coming here as we head toward the weekend.
00:16A brief cold shot. It's brief, but I'll tell you what, Saturday is going to be a chilly, chilly day
00:23here.
00:23Let me show you the seven-day forecast here for cities like Pittsburgh.
00:30Now, you see what's coming. Look at the warmth coming here as we head in the early part of the
00:35week here.
00:36Tuesday, temperatures in the 70s. Then this is the cold shot coming on Friday.
00:42There's going to be a rain, especially in the morning, but then this is the chill that we're talking about
00:46this weekend here.
00:48More a little taste of November in Pittsburgh. Temperatures lower 50s. Now, rebounds.
00:54That's the good news on Sunday, but Saturday is going to be a chilly day.
01:01Not only Pittsburgh, take a look at New York City coming here.
01:05I mean, this is a cool, very cool weekend.
01:08Now, Pittsburgh, you're going to modify as we head toward Sunday,
01:13but in New York City, it's going to be quite chilly here as we continue to track a cold front
01:19that is going to be on the way here.
01:21So, I mean, this is going to be a bona fide shot of chill coming.
01:26Now, it's not going to last long. That's the good news.
01:29But the bad news is, for your plans on Saturday,
01:33it's going to feel quite a bit chillier than it normally would feel for that weekend here that's coming on
01:44up.
01:44Now, let me show you what's going on here on the modeling,
01:48why we're seeing this chill that's coming here.
01:52Let me take you in toward the modeling here.
01:56All right. Here's where we are right now.
01:58Now, you've got this big dip in the jet stream in the western U.S.
02:02As we go forward, as it starts coming out, you'll see that you've got warmer air coming on in.
02:08So, it's going to warm up quite a bit here,
02:11especially as we head into Tuesday across this area here in New York City in the mid-Atlantic.
02:16But it's this piece of energy right in here.
02:20It's in the Pacific. It's this.
02:22Now, what's going to happen is this trough is going to split.
02:26You're going to have a piece go here and then a piece go northward.
02:29Watch what happens as we move into the end of the week.
02:32See, there's the splitting trough as we get into Thursday.
02:35So, what that's going to do is that's going to move back to the west.
02:39And this energy coming into British Columbia comes southward and intensifies.
02:46There it is on Thursday.
02:47And then let's take a look as we get into Friday.
02:50Here it comes.
02:51Now, right off the bat, you see, this is not going to last all that long because what's happening is
02:58you've already got another system coming in.
03:02So, you're going to get the ridging in here in the plains, in the Canadian prairies, and that will then
03:07come east on Sunday.
03:09But nonetheless, this is a bona fide shot of cold air coming in.
03:13And out ahead of it, digging trough on Friday, there will be a band of rain associated with this Thursday
03:20night in the Friday morning.
03:21And there it is coming in across the northeast.
03:25So, that's going to be a chilly rain.
03:27And then the front comes through right there.
03:29So, I'll tell you what, Friday night, outdoor planned, it is going to be quite windy and quite chilly.
03:36Now, I don't think this air will be quite cold enough for snow in most locations.
03:41Although, once you get into the Adirondacks, the Green and White Mountains, there certainly can be.
03:46But this is a shot of cold air.
03:48Watch this coming on in.
03:49And then the trough quickly leaves, though.
03:52There it is Saturday morning.
03:55And already, you can see what's happening.
03:58You're starting to get westerly flow across the Canadian prairies.
04:01And then that comes eastward as we go in the Sunday here.
04:06So, watch the surface map.
04:08There it is.
04:08High pressure builds in.
04:10This is going to be a pretty nasty day across northern New England on Sunday.
04:17Because Saturday, I should say, because you're going to have some strong gusty winds there.
04:21You're going to have wind gusts probably 30, 40 miles an hour in here.
04:24Let's take a look at what the temperatures look like here as we move in.
04:28There it is.
04:29Saturday morning.
04:30You have temperatures in the 30s up in here.
04:33That's what I mean.
04:33There's going to be some snow falling into the mountains.
04:36And then here are your high temperatures as we move in the Saturday afternoon.
04:41So, you're talking lower 50s.
04:42So, across Pennsylvania, 40s in New York State, upper 30s in Vermont and New Hampshire.
04:50This will be a taste of November.
04:55Now, the other thing, though, as quickly as this colder air comes in, it leaves.
05:01High pressure builds in.
05:03Here it is.
05:04So, it's a 1032 high.
05:07Watch temperatures, though.
05:09You're already starting to get some flow on the northern side of this.
05:13It's not as cold as you might think it will be.
05:15This is Sunday morning.
05:17So, you know, you're talking upper 30s, lower 40s Sunday morning.
05:23That is a chilly morning.
05:24But it doesn't look to me like there's going to be a lot of frost with this because there's too
05:30much wind.
05:31But, nonetheless, that 32-degree light coming down, mostly in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, certainly that's going to be the
05:38story, and in the Adirondacks.
05:40But, as I mentioned, it doesn't last long as we move in this Sunday.
05:44See what happens.
05:45High pressure's in.
05:47Now, it's going to be chilly along the I-95 corridor on Sunday.
05:52You can see high temperatures on Sunday.
05:54Let's take a look at them.
05:56These are sounding Sunday.
05:58So, there we go.
05:59Sunday is right here.
06:02So, you're already warming up in Pittsburgh, but still, underneath that high, it's a chilly Sunday across eastern New England.
06:10Boston, even New York City, you're going to be in the lower 50s on Sunday.
06:15So, it's chilliest, long eastern seaboard, but milder once you get across interior sections of the northeast.
06:26And then, here we go.
06:27Early next week, high pressure leaves, warms right back up.
06:31By the way, with this big area of high pressure, this would be an area to keep an eye on
06:37for tropical development.
06:38I don't see any signs of it, but underneath the belly of the high, you're going to have building area
06:44of showers and thunderstorms.
06:45Let's keep an eye on that as we head into early next week.
