Alexander Bublik's combustible persona on a tennis court came to the fore once more during his last-32 win at the Shanghai Masters on Sunday.

Bublik battled back from a set down to beat American Brandon Nakashima 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to set up a last-16 showdown with top seed Alexander Zverev.

However, despite the victory, Bublik's performance was overshadowed by his meltdown after losing the first-set tie-break, where he squandered two set points.

Frustrated at his own play, the Kazakh promptly smashed his racket furiously on the hard court five times in a fit of rage.

With his tennis racket now resembling anything but that, he then marched over to his seat to kick it in anger, before throwing away his now destroyed racket behind him.

However, Bublik was still livid and took his anger out on the drinks cooler beside him - choosing to punch that with his right hand - causing the cover to shatter.

The physical damage to his racket and the cooler wasn't the only thing that Bublik caused, as he cut his right arm punching the latter.

Chair umpire John Blom issued Bublik a code violation warning for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The 29-year-old then requested a medical time-out and a physio as he was unable to stop the bleeding on his self-inflicted wound despite trying to do so with a towel.

However, he managed to regain his composure to set up his clash with in-form German Zverev.

The outburst from Bublik is the latest controversial high-profile moment from the current world No 2.2.

In 2020 ,he declared, 'I hate tennis with all my heart,' citing that he only played due to the lucrative prize money.

Even earlier this year, he took aim at Arthur Rinderknech's appearance and nationality during his three-set match at the Geneva Open in May.

'He's French. And if he's French, then he's basically a little girl who could fold at any moment,' he was caught on camera saying in Russian. 'There's nothing manly about him - just look at him.'
