00:00What's happenin', dudes and dudettes? Hardcore Dude here, continuing Dances with Disaster Month.
00:06So, I was originally going to be doing a review of The Adventures of Pete and Pete episode Dance Fever,
00:12but with the recent passing of Michelle Trettenberg, I decided to make it its own video.
00:18So instead, I decided for this month, why don't we pay the Ed Boys a visit?
00:23After all, Ed, Ed, and Eddie have always been the masters of disaster.
00:28They'll do whatever crazy scheme they can come up with just for a quarter, only to end up with a
00:34giant mess in the end.
00:35If Wile E. Coyote wasn't part of Project Sisyphus, the Ed Boys would most certainly be the ones topping that
00:42casualty list.
00:43But what happens when their antics end up on the dance floor?
00:50Yeah, I agree, Little Pete. There's gonna be blood.
01:03Now, today's video is actually a two-part review.
01:07The dance episode, May I Have This Ed, is considered to be one of the lost episodes of the show.
01:12There was originally going to be a season six, but that was cut to make way for the big picture
01:18show movie.
01:19According to creator Danny Antonucci, a full season and a movie would have been too much work.
01:25Now, May I Have This Ed is only 11 minutes long.
01:29That's... not enough to work with.
01:31And the corresponding lost episode, Look Before You Ed, is a wintertime special that focuses on Jimmy protecting himself from
01:39snowballs.
01:40Sadly, the episode was also made in memoriam for the show's title screen creator, Paul Boyd,
01:45who was tragically killed by police officers during a bipolar episode in 2007.
01:50And unfortunately, our justice system hasn't gotten any better since then.
01:55I don't want to get into any of that.
01:57But as a little added bonus, I thought I'd do a review of an episode that I've also gotten requests
02:03for.
02:04And I think this one is unique because it actually plays into this episode as well.
02:09It's titled, phew, Ed, Edd n Eddy's Hanky Panky Hullabaloo.
02:14Yeah, have fun sticking that beast in the YouTube title.
02:17This is the Valentine's Day episode from 2005, and it gives us a chance to delve into some of the
02:23ships of the show.
02:24Yep, even with the relatively small cast, there are some vessels that pour into the regatta,
02:30but we'll talk about them when we get to them.
02:32For now, let's start Ed, Edd n Eddy's Hullabaloo... Heffa... Heffalumps and Woozles.
02:40Roll the footage!
02:41So the episode begins on Valentine's Day at Peach Creek Junior High.
02:46Yep, this was the point in the show where they all had the kids go to school,
02:50probably to differentiate the location a bit.
02:52And yet we never see any teachers, faculty, or any other students other than the main cast.
02:58Which begs the question, who's teaching these kids? Watson from IBM?
03:03We cut to everyone's favorite trailer trash trio, the Kankers,
03:07with May preparing a valentine for her... alleged boyfriend, Ed Singledy.
03:13What's this? Oh, it's a valentine card!
03:16It's for my boyfriend!
03:19It's for Big Ed Lee!
03:23Now I know who got Mom's genes!
03:26Hormones.
03:26Pfft, pot calling the kettle black, Lee.
03:30How long have you been thirsting for your BF again?
03:33About six years and one month at this point?
03:36Then we get something truly horrifying.
03:38Sarah and Jimmy as...
03:41Cupid...
03:42Seraphim...
03:43Fairies?
03:44When nature stares on valentine's day, and greets the children with her splendor,
03:48suddenly their minds will strange and thoughts of love and words so tender!
03:54It's a good thing I lost half my hearing listening to Kitten last time,
03:58or I'd really be going deaf right now.
04:00Also, if these two are supposed to be fairies,
04:03why aren't they wearing boots?
04:05Anyway, we cut to our Ed boys taking in the valentineness.
04:09Eddie sets up a kissing booth to grift,
04:12Ed tries to disguise himself because he's terrified of icky girls,
04:15and Double D plans to give out his scientific valentines to everyone.
04:20What a Casanova!
04:21Yucky, squishy, mushy girls, Double D!
04:24Fish have chips, my fine friend.
04:26I mean, who else can you really pair Marie or Naz up with?
04:30Yeah, they try Naz with Kevin here,
04:32but that ultimately ends in the movie,
04:35with him rejecting her because he chose his bike over her.
04:39It's all just a bit weird, Kevin.
04:41What exactly are you doing with that bike?
04:44There's only room in the cul-de-sac for one hysterical queen.
04:48So May tries to give Ed her valentine.
04:50It goes swimmingly.
04:53Ah, yucky, mushy girls!
04:55Whoa!
04:56Hey!
04:58Drop!
04:58Dang!
04:59Sorry, May, but Ed, um...
05:03He likes his girls a little bit older.
05:04I don't want to lose your love tonight!
05:09So Double D finds a crying May in the janitor's closet,
05:13and he gives the valentine he was originally going to give to Naz to May to make her feel better.
05:19I really must get to class.
05:21Happy Valentine's Day, May.
05:25That's really I select you.
05:27This moment right here is what makes Double D easily the best character of the whole show.
05:32He's a shy, awkward nerd, not really the most social,
05:36but he's the only character in this whole cast with an actual heart of gold.
05:41Rather, it comes from here.
05:44That's my udder you're touching.
05:47This has led to many a Double D Marie Shipper to ask,
05:50well, why doesn't Ed do this kind of charm with Marie?
05:54She's arguably the most intelligent of the sisters,
05:57and should make a great counterpart to Ed.
05:59In fact, you know what, Ed?
06:01I'm disappointed in you, dude.
06:03Out of all the canker sisters that are thirsting for you,
06:06you get the goth girl.
06:08Dude.
06:10Double D.
06:11Ed.
06:12Eduardo.
06:13Do yourself a favor.
06:15Lose the sock,
06:16and go for the goth already!
06:18Actually, there's a more logical explanation for that.
06:22Ed's shyness aside,
06:24Marie is just a straight-up bully.
06:26And not the kind of beating-your-crush-out-of-love kind of thing
06:29that Raven or Ronnie Anne do to their partners.
06:32She and Lee are just straight-up awful.
06:36To everyone on the show,
06:38not just the Ed's.
06:39And you know who's most likely suffering the worst of their wrath?
06:43Their baby sister, May.
06:45Because she has to live with them.
06:47In a metal trailer.
06:49When you see what she puts up with in that opening scene,
06:52plus all the other nonsense they put her through throughout the rest of the show,
06:56she's really the only canker that you actually kind of feel sorry for.
07:01Part of loving it means that...
07:04That he has to accept us for who we are.
07:07Which is not decent.
07:10Hey, this double May pairing could be an interesting experiment.
07:14Too bad the Jimmy and Sarah...
07:16Sarahfims have to come along and make it extra awkward.
07:22I can feel the spring of love is seated deep within the canker girl.
07:28Still another hack is needed for this blossom to unfurl.
07:33Ah, I can't with these voices.
07:35Where's Crocker when you need him?
07:37A while later, we cut to the gym,
07:39where Kevin is trying to get the boys to climb rope,
07:42and Naz is making the cankers play tennis.
07:45Good to have some extras handy when your school is significantly short-staffed.
07:50I do like this new school, though.
07:52Just about every room is featured,
07:54and the animators are sure to let the cast make use of these new surroundings.
07:58In some cases, painfully.
08:09All right, folks, who wants to see the Ed boys in Space Jam 3?
08:15I didn't think so.
08:16But everyone starts to notice that Double D and May seem...
08:21The evil Cupid demons have them both under their spell.
08:25Neither Emortentia from Harry Potter nor the voices of the Dazzlings
08:30can conjure up this level of crack pairing.
08:33Victory, Lamp Chop! Are you hurt?
08:36Your gaze alone would heal any wound.
08:38Aw, isn't that cute?
08:40And that's not just the spell-talking.
08:42Ed just has that kind of charm.
08:45That...
08:46Riz, as they call it now.
08:48Who even came up with the word Riz, anyway?
08:51You're so adorable!
08:53I could just eat you up!
08:56Bon appetit, turtle duck!
08:57For I am basted and ready to serve!
09:00Okay, now that's the spell-talking.
09:03Go get a room, you horndogs!
09:06I kid, but am I the only one who thinks this Ed May ship could've...
09:11worked?
09:12I mean, they've both had to put up with their partner's BS,
09:15getting bullied constantly.
09:17Maybe they could've cooked with something here?
09:20But as long as Marie is around,
09:23ain't no way she's losing her man,
09:25and she will make heads roll.
09:34Now, now, now!
09:35I'm not putting down double Marie!
09:37I mean, who knows?
09:39Maybe Ed could've been able to reform Marie in some way?
09:43Or maybe Marie could have Ed go to the dark side?
09:47Make him a goth or something?
09:48I mean, why not?
09:50Look at this dude!
09:51He's for sure the next pan pizza!
09:53But Ed, Eddie, Marie, and Lee
09:56finally figure out their comrades
09:57are in a crack make-out cahoots
09:59and confront each other in the lunchroom.
10:02There's only one solution to this.
10:04Food fight!
10:19But then the evil cupids decide that things have gotten out of hand.
10:24So, they start shooting arrows at ad nauseum
10:27at just about everybody in the lunchroom,
10:30and in the process create one big, giant, messy, crack, hypersexual love fest?
10:37Where have you been all my life?
10:39What the f*** are you going on?
10:41Also, Ed is now in love with a sandwich.
10:44Because it's Ed.
10:45You call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese, Eddie!
10:48So, is there anybody who can stop this madness?
10:52Well, while the other kids are having varying opinions over Ed and May as a couple,
10:57Rolf is the only one who suspects that something weird is going on in this school.
11:02Are you also lost to these gregons of affection?
11:05Ed boy and the canker girl have been smitten!
11:08Beware, lest you be next.
11:10Right.
11:11Yes, Rolf, the son of a shepherd who is so out to lunch
11:14that I need another set of captions to translate what he says.
11:18He is the man who has come to save the day.
11:21Because he can smell the horse manure a mile away.
11:25I mean, he should.
11:26He does have a farm.
11:28House.
11:28So, Rolf, armed with his trusty Nimbus 1967,
11:32manages to mop up those pesky lovebirds and kick them out of the school.
11:37He then uses the dirty mop water on everybody to bring them back to normal.
11:41The harsh realities of your miserable lives have been restored!
11:45Thank you!
11:46Good old Rolf.
11:47He understands the single life.
11:49And so, this episode ends with the Ed boys having to clean up the mess in the entire school.
11:54I cannot believe this!
11:56Me!
11:57A detention to mire an otherwise impeccable school record!
12:00Uh, detention for what?
12:02You were hypnotized the whole time and you didn't do anything!
12:05And where's the Kankers?
12:07Did they get detention as well?
12:09Who's running this school?
12:11Is it Kevin, too?
12:12Amongst the rubble,
12:13Ed finds a valentine from May that was supposed to be given to him
12:16and decides to hang on to it.
12:19Oh, so could this be hinting at a future Double D May relationship?
12:24Ha ha ha!
12:26Of course not.
12:27You expect character development in this show?
12:30What do you think this is?
12:31The big picture show?
12:32But we do end on one last surprise.
12:36Ed!
12:39Oh no!
12:41And flow!
12:43Oh my god!
12:45Oh my god!
12:47Oh my god!
12:50Oh my god!
12:55Oh my god!
13:00episode. What was even up with those Sarah and Jimmy Cupid things anyway? Did they die? If so,
13:07happy day! I'd rather date a frog, Baldi! My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is
13:16ruined. Well, one episode down. Time to get to our main event. May I have this Ed from the
13:22season six. The episode begins with Eddie trying to get Ed's donut. Yes, we went from Ed trying
13:29to give Eddie mouth-to-mouth to Eddie trying to get Ed's donut. Who wrote this?! Great. Now the Adventure
13:38Time crew are giggling incessantly right now. So, after destroying the lockers, Double D finds a
13:44poster for a school dance that's happening that night. Eddie puts out an ad to win a date with him,
13:50which Ed happily signs. Well, there you go, folks. It's official. Ed doesn't like icky girls,
13:56and clearly has a crush on his best friend, Eddie. So, what do you think their power couple name
14:03should be? Ed, Eddie, Eddie, Ed-de-de-de-de-de? Back at Eddie's house, Eddie finds a book called
14:13Dames, Dates, and You. It's got everything a guy needs to know about Charmin' the Tomatoes.
14:18My bro says so. Just call me Charmin' Marvin. Um, uh, Ted dated, uh, don't you think Eddie-
14:25Of course it belongs to Eddie's brother. Knowing him, he probably got it in the back of a Spencer
14:29somewhere. So, Eddie is obviously trying to turn some tricks at this dance, while Double D is still
14:35trying to get over his awkwardness and get a girl to dance with him. They practice...on a swinging
14:41mannequin, as Eddie calls it. But Double D still can't handle the rejection.
14:46Oh, for crying out loud, Double D. We are literally at the penultimate episode of this show, and
14:52you still can't ask a girl out? Who is it? Is it Marie? Is it Naz? Is it May again?
14:59Do
14:59you still have that valentine with you? So, we get to the actual dance in the school auditorium.
15:04All the kids are dressed up in their zoot suits, while happily single man Rolf is dressed
15:08up as a giant puffer fish. There. Sure glad I don't look stupid in this.
15:13But Double D does have his eyes set on a girl, and it is in fact Naz. Oh, that valentine
15:21with
15:21Naz's name on it that Ed gave to May definitely hinted at something, didn't it?
15:25I got 150 things, now all I gotta find is you. I got 150 things, now all I gotta find
15:33is you. And if the
15:34Naz don't help me baby, you can forget about me too. But Double D just can't handle the pressure and
15:41tries
15:41to make a break for it. Meanwhile, Kevin and his buzz cut try to ask Naz to dance. But it
15:47turns out he's
15:48also too much of a nervous wreck to ask her out as well. Yeah, turns out Kevin's a complete
15:53dork as well. A perfect example of pot calling that kettle black. Yeah, there's a reason there's
16:00not a single healthy relationship in this show. It's cause everybody is a complete awkward mess.
16:05It's a whole cul-de-sac of awkwardness. But Brandon, you ask, what about Sarah and Jimmy?
16:11I said healthy couples, not cancer. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Be gone, you demons! Be gone!
16:20The next few minutes is a long streak of mindless chaos. Kevin and Double D go for punch, only to
16:26find
16:27Eddie hiding in the bowl because... book. Kevin tries to impress Naz, only to get steamrolled by Double
16:33D and Eddie. Double D finally gets to dance with Naz, and it looks like a happy ending. But when
16:40the lights
16:40go out at the end of a disco, you know who's waiting, the cankers for a snog. This attracts
16:46the attention of Marie, who's been doing... dirt and nothing this whole time, but hanging around in
16:52the background with Lee. And where's May during all this? Stuck to the back of Rolf's costume.
16:57Well, at least she found another husbando to latch onto. Good for her?
17:03You're gonna let that hussy steal your man, Marie!
17:05Uh, what did you just say, Lee?
17:07You're gonna let that hussy steal your man, Marie!
17:11Oh, hussy, okay, uh, I thought you said, um, Wilfred.
17:16You know, Marie, if you weren't such a cancer and actually bothered to ask Double D to the dance,
17:21he might have just said yes. He'd be happy about someone not rejecting him, right?
17:27But no, Marie decides to ask Eddie to dance to make Double D jealous, but in turn makes Lee jealous.
17:33May, still stuck to Rolf's suit, tries to butt in, but this causes Rolf's costume to go out of control,
17:39and... here we go again!
17:56My friends...
17:58We should have left this part of the cul-de-sac...
18:02alone.
18:03And so the episode ends, and, well, honestly, the whole show ends, with the Eds sitting on a hill,
18:09seeing the whole school collapse, Eddie is now happy that there's no more school,
18:14Double D got to dance with Naz, and Ed got Wilfred the Pig's number. Gross.
18:20Well damn, an episode that has a happy ending for the Eds? That's a rarity.
18:26These episodes were alright.
18:28This might be controversial, but I do like the new school location.
18:32I think it's different from what we usually see.
18:34Granted, I haven't seen a whole lot of season five, and from what I'm told,
18:39it's considered the weakest of the show.
18:41I don't think the location change or the new animation are much of a factor,
18:46but the writing apparently does get sloppier.
18:49Now, between the two episodes...
18:51Well, Hanky Panky is obviously the superior one.
18:55It's completely nuts and nonsensical, but it's funny,
18:58and it does give us an interesting look at just how crazy the shipping in the show can get.
19:03I'm sure a lot of Ed fans were watching this and brainstorming.
19:07That or dusting off the crack pack.
19:09Here, you want some Lee Rolfe?
19:12May I have this Ed as fun too, but it's brought down by the short run time.
19:16The first half is just the Eds practicing with the swinger mannequin,
19:20and the second half is just a high-speed rampage with the cankers being tacked on at the end.
19:25That seems to be their gimmick though, isn't it?
19:28Matrons of Makeout?
19:29Or mistresses of deus ex machina?
19:32You be the judge.
19:33If this episode was a two-parter, they probably could have had more to work with.
19:37Maybe have Marie and Naz fight over who gets to dance with Ed?
19:41Unfortunately, they weren't able to do that, obviously because they were busy with the movie.
19:45Fortunately, both these episodes do deliver on one thing.
19:49Absolute chaos.
19:51And that's what I want in these episodes.
19:53No slow dancing or lovey-dovey.
19:55I ain't got time for that now.
19:57I want fast-moving, food-flying nonsense galore.
20:01That's the kind of chaos I want.
20:03As far as the shipping goes, well,
20:05Double May was a bizarre pairing that I think may have cooked a lot more than what the creators expected.
20:11Double Naz was the ship that had the most potential,
20:14if it wasn't surrounded by icebergs like Kevin and Double Marie.
20:19And, well, if the show was built for character development,
20:22maybe they could have done something with it.
20:24But that's not the show's M.O.
20:26Because the thing is, Ed and Nettie isn't about healthy relationships.
20:30It's about a bunch of scheming kids trying to make some moolah so that they can afford Jawbreakers.
20:36You know, back when Jawbreakers actually did cost a quarter.
20:40They're like a dollar now.
20:42I do give both episodes hardcore hits for delivering on the dancing and the maximum mayhem.
20:48But wait a minute.
20:49Did Hullabaloo actually have any dancing in it?
20:54Oh crap.
20:56Well, that's one request out of the way, I guess.
20:59But hey, if you are looking for an episode with dancing,
21:03stay tuned for the last review of Dances with Disaster Month,
21:06because I'm covering the best episode yet.
21:10Get ready, folks.
21:12We're about to prepare for an enchanting Grom Fright.
21:17Peace out, and cease.
