Best friends Ella and Leah marry the Harper brothers on the same day: Ella marries Charles, a fire captain, while Leah marries Noah, a celebrated surgeon. Three years later, seven-months pregnant Ella is locked inside a burning house by Charles’s first love, Megan. She calls her husband for help, but Charles dismisses her cries as a false alarm because he is busy rescuing Megan’s cat. Leah breaks down the door and saves Ella, then begs Noah to treat her friend.
