00:00Day by day, I try to make it through another day, whoa whoa
00:07Talisman was a Swedish hard rock band founded in 1989 by bassist Marcel Jacob.
00:14The band reached its peak in the early 90s, released six albums, and was primarily successful in Europe.
00:21In the late 80s, bassist Marcel Jacob played in the solo bands of Swedish guitarists
00:26Ingwe Malmsteen and John Norum, which sparked his own interest in studio recordings and songwriting.
00:33Although a record label had already expressed interest, Norum blocked Jacob's songs,
00:38so he initially planned a solo career under the name Guitars on Fire.
00:42However, after American singer Jeff Scott Soto showed interest in the music,
00:47the two joined forces and renamed themselves Talisman. During the studio recordings,
00:53Soto's U.S. band Eyes also landed a record deal, so both flew to the U.S. and first produced
00:59the Eyes
01:00album, which indirectly also served as Talisman's debut production. The self-titled Talisman album
01:06was released in February 1990, and the single I'll Be Waiting reached number. Two in Sweden,
01:13live the band featured Jason Beeler on guitar, Saigon Kick, Jakob Jake Samuel Samuelsson on drums,
01:20and Thomas Vikström on keyboards and backing vocals. Talisman was one of the top ten drawing
01:26acts in Sweden that summer. Unfortunately, the label went bankrupt, ending any chances of
01:32international exposure for the album. The band's Eyes and Saigon Kick fared significantly better,
01:38and Talisman became more of a side project. By mid-1992, the band was largely without a label.
01:45Once they finally signed with a small, independent label, and Soto became available again, the band
01:51recorded their second album, Genesis. This is how the band's story unfolded throughout the 90s.
01:57Bad luck with labels, and the fact that it was sometimes treated as a side project,
02:02prevented the band from achieving major success. Over the years, founder Marcel Jacobs' health
02:08deteriorated, leading to the band's breakup in 2007, and the bassist's death in 2009.
02:15As a tribute to their colleague, the band has performed three sporadic concerts to date.
02:20If you need somebody, call out my name. I've been waiting right by your side.
02:28Everything changes. I can't let you go. It's so mysterious. So let me know.
