00:00Change your stance, at least kind of eased on those in the last few days. Why so late in the
00:05game?
00:06Now this was about time. This wasn't about a change of position.
00:11We were originally told that that Canadian tariff thing was going to be settled and settled quickly. It didn't happen.
00:18My argument is, and I made this to the administration, time to wrap this up.
00:23We have higher diesel prices right now, higher gas prices right now. This is the time we need to wrap
00:29that up.
00:31Congressman Leland Bitter here with News Nation.
00:34You've gotten angry at voters who said that prices were too high. You called them nuts.
00:43Now you say you're going to do a lot to bring down prices.
00:46You said Trump's tariffs were an absolute win.
00:50Just saw an ad on TV with you against these tariffs.
00:54Before you ask voters for their vote, do you need to provide an explanation about why you were wrong on
01:01tariffs?
01:01Why you were wrong on what was going to happen with prices?
01:05And I'm sorry, I didn't hear your...
01:06Leland Bitter with News Nation.
01:07News Nation.
01:08Should you provide them with an explanation of why you were wrong and what you're going to do about it?
01:12I'm not sure exactly where that question went.
01:14It sounded like a couple of DNC talking points.
01:17But what I can tell you is, me more than anyone, I've been traveling the state talking to farmers and
01:24small manufacturers,
01:27both in furniture business and fabricators on the east side.
01:31I know what the pressure points are.
01:34My job is to try to make sure I can use my relationship with the administration to ease as much
01:41pain as I can.
01:42So you're going to have two options.
01:44This is what I tell voters.
01:45You're going to have two options here.
01:46You're going to send somebody back who is an absolute lightweight on policy,
01:51who will not have the ability to have a conversation with the administration to get anything from Michigan
01:56or stop anything from hurting Michigan.
01:59And I have said, if it's good for Michigan, I'm going to be for it.
02:02If it's bad for Michigan, I'm going to be against it.
02:04And that's why I've been working, even now, I'm obviously not elected.
02:08I spent a couple of days on the phone with the Commerce Secretary trying to work this out.
02:14So what's changed when tariffs were...
02:16Next question.
02:17Next question.
02:18Congressman, Congressman.
02:19Thank you, Congressman.
02:20Congressman.
02:20Sir?
02:21Oh.
02:21Thank you so much.
02:22Michael Schnell with MSNOW.
02:24Earlier this week, President Trump said he plans to come to Michigan.
02:27Would you want him to come here to campaign with you in the final stretch to election day?
02:31And if he comes, will you appear with him?
02:33What I think the national people are missing here, those tariffs that he imposed saved the cherry farmers up by
02:43Traverse City.
02:44Saved them.
02:44That's their own words, not mine.
02:45We would have lost cherry farmers without dumping that was happening into the market.
02:51Really good.
02:52We got the Chevy Silverado from Mexico coming back to Oregon here in Michigan.
02:58Diesel, Detroit Diesel, is adding a third shift, a third shift, hiring a whole new batch of folks because they're
03:06getting more work.
03:07That reshoring is starting to happen here.
03:09Really, really important.
03:10So you take better jobs, higher paying jobs, more jobs.
03:15Remember, we've lost 27,000 manufacturing jobs under the Democrats in the last eight years.
03:2027,000.
03:21This is the first chance we have to start to turn that around.
03:25So I would welcome to have the conversation with the three million families that benefited from no tax on overtime.
03:33I mean, I talked to a guy, got $3,500 back last year.
03:37That's real money.
03:39So, yes, he'd be welcome.
03:40I'd love to have him talk to those people and get them fired up why they ought to vote.
03:43Can I have a question here with him?
03:44Yeah?
03:45Can I have a question here with him?
03:45Can I have a question here with T.V.?
03:47You said you want AI data center decisions to be kept at the local level.
03:50Here in Michigan, Public Acts 181 and 207 have garnered mixed support from Republicans.
03:56Where do you stand on these tax exemptions and similar ones around the nation?
04:00Yeah, I'm not familiar with those state bills, but I can just tell you my position has always been get
04:06these questions answered.
04:07It needs to be a local decision.
04:09I didn't like when the governor overturned local control on certain windmills and other things.
04:15I thought that was wrong, and so I think you need to keep local control, make sure they have closed
04:20-loop water systems, make sure that they bring their own power, meaning nobody in that community is paying extra for
04:26that data center being there.
04:28And lastly, and I'll say this until I'm blue in the face, every dollar that is generated in tax revenue
04:35coming off of those data centers should reduce the property taxes for the people in the community of that data
04:41center.
04:42You have got to get people bought in, and they had a lot of work to do.
04:46They scared the bejesus out of people for a year, and I'm not even sure I understand some of the
04:51questions.
04:51Let's get them answered.
04:53Let's get those things answered.
04:55Craig Mogher with Detroit News.
04:57Craig Mogher with Detroit News.
04:58I have a question for you.
05:00You ran against Alyssa Slotkin two years ago.
05:02You guys had some exchanges.
05:04After this debate tonight, what's different about running against that rule compared to the other restaurants?
05:10He is an absolute lightweight on policy.
05:13I thought Alyssa Slotkin was at least policy savvy.
05:16That was the big difference to me.
05:18I mean, he's a rote candidate, says the same thing over and over every answer.
05:23You can't get him any depth.
05:25He is going to ruin Medicare for seniors.
05:30Ruin it.
05:31He can't answer it.
05:32He's going to cost every single family $20,000.
05:35I just talked to a group of union folks the other day who were telling me that they just learned
05:40that under the Medicare plan, the Bernie Sanders bill that he supports, the Medicare plan of which he wrote a
05:47book about, takes away their health insurance.
05:53I'm telling you, that's a loser.
05:55The biggest group we have joining us, well, we have a couple of great ones coming.
05:59One is UAW Workers for Rogers.
06:02That thing is swelling up.
06:04Why?
06:04They understand that this guy is dangerous.
06:06He doesn't know what he's talking about.
06:07He couldn't even answer the number of the federal budget.
06:10And he's talking about adding trillions and trillions of dollars to that number.
06:15I mean, it's really quite something.
06:16I think we're going to be fine.
06:19The other good part of that, Greg, just for you, our Detroit efforts with African-American voters is off the
06:26chart because he's been rude and dismissive.
06:30Interesting.
06:31Same thing our Jewish Democrats are telling us.
06:33Last question.
06:34Ben Solis, Ben Solis, Ben Solis, Ben Solis.
06:37What evidence do you have tying al-Qaeda to the government?
06:40What evidence do you have tying al-Qaeda to the government and al-Qaeda?
06:43Ben.
06:44I'll let, if you can let her answer her question, I'd be happy to.
06:47No, you're taking you, I think is the last question.
06:49No, it's Ben, you're the last question.
06:50Okay.
06:51This was a bit of a punch-up, kind of off of what Craig said.
06:54You know, despite all this back and forth, do you think this was really an instructive debate for voters who
06:59really have to make a decision between you and Abdul Al-Qaeda?
07:02The best instruction you'll get on this debate is if you go to stopabdul.com.
07:08All of his, think of this, he spent as much time deleting as he did preparing his rope kind of
07:15performances.
07:17It talks about everything that he did not want you to hear.
07:20And think of this, his top staff campaign person said, this guy is a manufactured candidate.
07:28He tells one group one thing and another group, two hours later, completely something different.
07:33His own sister said he will say anything he needs right now to get elected.
07:38His running mate, which didn't come up, Hassan Piker, also said, don't listen to him.
07:43He'll say what he needs to say to get elected.
07:46And that's the guy he brought to our college kids.
07:48We all ought to be offended by that.
07:50This is the guy that said it's okay to bring back lynching and talking about black people.
07:55This is the guy that said our streets should run red with capitalist blood.
08:00I mean, this is the guy that got him through the primary.
08:03There's a reason that more Democrats voted against him than voted for him.
08:08And by the way, we're doing just fine in our African-American outreach program.
08:13They understand that we're for real.
08:15We're going to help their problems.
08:16We have actually solutions to their problems.
08:19We're just we're doing exceptionally well.
08:21I don't think he can win.
08:22God bless you all.
08:23Thank you so much.
