The bulletin covers major political and legal updates across south India on India Today's So South. In Karnataka, a political row erupted after footage surfaced from a Delhi protest showing Rahul Gandhi pulling Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar away, triggering sharp criticism from the BJP. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lodged a formal police complaint over a circulating defamatory fake video, seeking an investigation and legal injunction. Additionally, the Karnataka High Court scrapped the hike in SC/ST reservation beyond the 50 percent cap, holding the state amendment unconstitutional. In Tamil Nadu, the Madras High Court declined to entertain a petition challenging the resignation of AIADMK MLAs who joined TVK, alongside mounting scrutiny over hazardous illegal banners in Chennai. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu hosted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay in Vijayawada for talks on linking the Godavari and Kaveri rivers. In Kerala, the Congress faced backlash following a controversial social media post criticizing the judiciary.

00:03Vanakam, Namaskara, good afternoon and a big welcome to India Today's SoSouth,
00:07where we get you the daily flavour of the south and the news that dominates the southern part of India.
00:13And joining me right now are my team of colleagues in a moment from now,
00:17Pramod Madhav, Anaga Keshav, Apoorva Jaichandran from Chennai.
00:20We have Abdul Bashir and Shibhi Moll from Telangana as well as in Kaila.
00:25So all of us will be getting us the latest updates, the ground reports from the respective states.
00:29And a lot of news coming in over the next 30 minutes from each state.
00:33Let's kickstart the bulletin right now from the news coming in from the state of Karnataka.
00:45And our first story is from Karnataka about the Chief Minister being pulled away by the Leader of Opposition or
00:52Rahul Gandhi.
00:53Remember yesterday was a big protest starting from 12 o'clock till evening
00:56when the Congress Party was marching towards the Supreme Court.
01:00And in one video what appears it to be that Chief Minister D.K. Shukumar gets into the crowd,
01:05gets into the close proximity of Leader of Opposition.
01:08And what appears then was Rahul Gandhi trying to pull D.K. Shukumar and send him away is what appears
01:15on the video.
01:15Now the BJP has got fresh ammunition to target the Congress Party.
01:19Starting from President Karnataka, the BJP Vijayendra to the National Party, Delhi,
01:24all of them BJP have tweeted about D.K. Shukumar being pushed away.
01:29Vijayendra in fact says that this is a disrespect not just to D.K. Shukumar.
01:34Because he represents Karnataka, this is an insult to Kannadigas.
01:38Vijayendra also says that Shukumar in fact has to stand up to the Leader of Opposition
01:42and questioning why he was being pushed away.
01:45Both Congress and BJP have made this into a political slugfest in Karnataka.
01:49BJP is now targeting Rahul Gandhi that a bare minimum respect for the Chief Minister
01:54is not even given by the Leader of Opposition.
01:57Listening to the voices coming in on the story.
02:00See, first of all, BJP leaders have no business.
02:05Okay, second of all, the Leader was to be protected.
02:10That is the protocol.
02:11Rahul Gandhi is a VIP, is a Leader of the Opposition.
02:16He has a different protocol for security reasons.
02:19That they have done.
02:20So in the process, whoever comes in the way, naturally they will push them across
02:25and see that the VIP is protected.
02:28Why BJP is so much keen on this?
02:31Our Karnataka Chief Minister was pushed by Rahul Gandhi.
02:34I don't know if you have seen the video.
02:36Everyone is saying it is an insult to Kannadigas.
02:38You have also tweeted, in fact, JDS has tweeted this issue saying it is an insult to Karnataka and Kannadiga.
02:43You know, yesterday's, in the protest rally in Delhi,
02:51Congress, President and LOPF Congress,
02:56he pushed Karnataka Chief Minister.
02:59That is the sign that he will going to be pushed by Congress from his Chief Minister post.
03:08That is the beginning.
03:10Yesterday's issue was the beginning.
03:15How it will be going to happen in future.
03:17Because of his own mistakes,
03:20which have done from last several years.
03:23For that, he has to pay.
03:26In future days, that is the sign.
03:28Yesterday's pushing incident against the present Chief Minister of Karnataka.
03:34What we saw in Delhi is definitely a condemnable act by Rahul Gandhi,
03:39insulting a Chief Minister of Karnataka state.
03:43Probably, Rahul Gandhi, the narrative he wants to set is,
03:47I can insult anybody, I am the princess of this country,
03:51and I can do anything.
03:53And that is what he says.
03:54And whatever he believes, even if it is not a fact,
03:58he thinks that that is the fact.
03:59For example, we all know that,
04:03whether they blamed EVMs,
04:05then they blamed election commission,
04:07now they are blaming the election commissioner itself.
04:11Every narrative what they say is far from the truth.
04:21Breaking news coming in at this point of time.
04:23The former Chief Minister of Karnataka,
04:25Siddharamaya, has now filed an official complaint
04:28with the Bangalore Police
04:29regarding a fake, so-called fake, video against him.
04:33Now, Siddharamaya has told the Bangalore Police
04:35to investigate who is behind this video
04:38that has been circulated on several WhatsApp channels.
04:41And people apparently have such videos,
04:44which is defamatory in nature
04:45against the former Chief Minister.
04:47Siddharamaya has now filed a complaint
04:49with Bangalore Police,
04:50asking one, how did the video come out?
04:52Who is the, in fact, creator of such fake videos
04:55to defame me?
04:56And second, how is it being circulated?
04:58And who is responsible?
04:59Behind this is the big question
05:01that Siddharamaya has been asking.
05:03Remember, there's a murmur in the last 10 days
05:05in Karnataka about string operations going on.
05:08And now, subsequently,
05:09the former Chief Minister of Karnataka,
05:11Siddharamaya, has filed a police complaint
05:13with Bangalore Police,
05:14saying that there seems to be a fake video of mine
05:17which is being circulated,
05:18investigated right away.
05:19Remember, the former union,
05:21in fact, the present union minister,
05:23H.D. Kumar Swamy,
05:24the former Chief Minister,
05:25had made a big allegation that
05:27such videos were used
05:29to dethrone or ensure that Siddharamaya
05:31vacates his CM chair
05:32and D.K. Shokong becomes the Chief Minister.
05:35That was a big statement
05:36from Union Minister Kumar Swamy.
05:38Now, 10 days later,
05:40VC Siddharamaya filing a complaint
05:42saying that there seems to be a fake video of mine
05:45and hence,
05:46you please investigate this
05:47as to how did this come up
05:49in public discourse
05:52and that's the reason the complaint has been filed.
05:54Subsequently,
05:55and Siddharamaya also has filed
05:57a petition in Bangalore courts,
05:59the local court,
06:00to get a stay order
06:01on media channels
06:03and also social media
06:04or anyone
06:05who tries to circulate
06:06this fake video.
06:07We'll have to see
06:08post-lunch
06:09the court order
06:10most likely will be
06:11in favour of Siddharamaya
06:12and an injunction
06:13or a stay
06:13will also be given.
06:16So, former Chief Minister
06:17Kumar Swamy
06:18has spoken,
06:20listen to him.
06:48The state of Karnataka
06:49is the update
06:50from Karnataka High Court.
06:52The Karnataka High Court
06:53has struck down
06:54the SC-ST reservation
06:55that the previous
06:56BGP government
06:58had passed
06:58in January 2023.
07:00Technically,
07:01what happened was
07:02SC and ST reservation
07:04cap was increased
07:05by the Bommaya government
07:06back then
07:06and now,
07:07three years later
07:08after the court
07:09heard a PIL,
07:10the 56% reservation
07:12has been scrapped
07:13and the court has said
07:14that the government
07:15will have to stick
07:15to the 50% reservation cap
07:17and this came on Monday
07:19which stuck down
07:20the provision
07:20that in 2022
07:21the state law
07:22that increased reservation
07:23for SCs
07:24from 15% to 17%
07:25and scheduled drive
07:27from 3% to 7%
07:28ruling that enhanced quota
07:30would breach
07:31the 50% cap
07:32on reservation.
07:33This verdict in fact
07:35came from
07:35the division bench
07:36of Karnataka
07:37Chief Justice
07:37Vibhubakru
07:38and Justice Himaleka
07:40held that
07:40Section 3
07:41of the Karnataka
07:41scheduled caste
07:42and scheduled tribe
07:44reservation of seats
07:45in educational institutions
07:46and appointments
07:47or posts in services
07:49under the State Act
07:502022
07:51was unconstitutional
07:53to extend that
07:54it cannot go
07:55beyond 50% cap.
07:57Now the government
07:58of Karnataka
07:59will have to go back
08:00to the drawing rooms
08:00and think
08:01do they have to
08:02appeal against
08:03this High Court order
08:03in Supreme Court
08:04or do they just
08:05accept the verdict
08:06and end the reservation
08:07at 50% cap.
08:09They'll also have
08:10a counter argument
08:11that the Dalits
08:12in Karnataka
08:12will need more reservation
08:14because more and more
08:15people subcast
08:16will be added
08:16to this list.
08:17How will we go forward
08:18over the next 30 years
08:19is what the government
08:20of Karnataka
08:21will also be looking
08:22into this aspect.
08:24And these are the stories
08:25from the state
08:25of Karnataka
08:26and now
08:27we move to
08:28the state of Tamil Nadu.
08:29Pramod Madhav
08:29will take it from here.
08:39Thank you, Bhagajan.
08:41No end
08:41when it comes
08:42to political development,
08:43serious political developments
08:44when it comes
08:45to the state
08:45of Tamil Nadu.
08:46And for the day
08:47we saw a case
08:48that went up
08:48to the Madrasai court
08:49and this is about
08:50the seeking disqualification
08:51of five MLAs
08:53who resigned.
08:54Apparently it's
08:55one of the six
08:55right now
08:55from AIA-DMK
08:57and joined the TVK.
08:59Of which two MLAs
09:00have once again
09:00won again
09:01from Madhav Andagam
09:02and Dharapuram.
09:03The petition however
09:04was not accepted
09:05by the Madrasai court
09:06stating that
09:07the speaker's decision
09:08to accept
09:09their resignation
09:10was upheld
09:11by the Madrasai court
09:13very clearly stating
09:14that there is no need
09:15for the speaker
09:15to go ahead
09:16and do any kind
09:17of scrutiny
09:17or investigation
09:18as it was all
09:19done by the law.
09:20The drama there
09:21was very simple.
09:22Four MLAs
09:23immediately
09:23Maragatam Kumaravail,
09:24Satya Bama
09:25and two others
09:26were the people
09:27who went ahead
09:28gave the resignation
09:29to the speaker
09:30probably 10 or 20 days
09:31after being elected
09:32and then they
09:33immediately joined TVK
09:34just on the upper floor
09:35at the cabin
09:36of the PWD minister
09:38Adav Arjuna.
09:40Interestingly,
09:40there are more developments
09:41when it comes to the story
09:42as Sengotean,
09:44the revenue minister,
09:44now claims
09:45that look at the way
09:47the AIDMK is presently.
09:49He says that
09:49the AIDMK,
09:51the party,
09:51is completely
09:52trotting away
09:53and he says
09:54there are 15 more
09:55who will come.
09:56He did definitely
09:57take a U-turn
09:58stating that
09:58he said
09:59that 15 more
10:00are come to
10:00from AIDMK
10:01but I did not say
10:03if they are MLAs
10:04or not
10:04that way
10:05he wants to also
10:06bring in
10:06a puzzle.
10:07Here is what
10:08Sengotean said.
10:36But it looks like
10:37Sengotean knows
10:38more what is
10:39happening inside
10:40AIDMK.
10:41That's why he says
10:41that you need to
10:42wait and watch
10:43what is happening
10:43in that once
10:44massive party.
10:46Now we have
10:46Anagar Keshav
10:47live with us.
10:48Anagar,
10:48very interesting
10:48how Sengotean
10:49says that
10:50as we speak
10:51there is a
10:51separate meeting
10:51that is being
10:52head by
10:53SP Velumani,
10:54Sivish Shanmugam
10:55as well,
10:55Natham Viswanathan
10:56also.
10:57What exactly
10:57is happening
10:58over there
10:58in that particular
10:59camp,
10:59Anagar?
11:04Well in fact
11:05the AIDMK
11:06leaders want
11:07EPS to resign
11:08and this has
11:08been a long
11:09standing call
11:10because the
11:11confidence on
11:11EPS at the
11:12moment is at
11:13its lowest.
11:15He has been
11:15facing defeat
11:16after defeat,
11:17election after
11:17election and
11:18now recently
11:19by election
11:19where the
11:21AIDMK had
11:22won on both
11:22constituencies,
11:23they have lost
11:24both.
11:25So therefore
11:25the confidence
11:26on EPS
11:27especially among
11:28carders and
11:28second-gen
11:29leaders is at
11:30its utmost
11:31lowest and
11:32therefore there
11:33are growing
11:34calls for
11:35Erapadi
11:35Paraniswamy
11:36to step
11:36down from
11:37his leadership
11:37position and
11:38that's why
11:38Sengotian is
11:39saying that
11:39wait and
11:40watch,
11:41there will be
11:41more leaders
11:42who will be
11:42resigning from
11:43AIDMK and
11:43joining the
11:44TVK.
11:44We recently
11:45had so many
11:46of AIDMK
11:46MLA's resign
11:48from their
11:48MLA position
11:49with the
11:49party and
11:50join the
11:51TVK.
11:51So therefore
11:51Sengotian
11:52says that
11:53this is only
11:53the beginning,
11:54there's more
11:55MLA's to
11:55come,
11:56many more
11:56leaders will
11:57be resigning
11:57from AIDMK
11:58and joining
11:59TVK is what
12:00Sengotian
12:00says.
12:04Thank you
12:05Nagar,
12:05I requested
12:06to stay
12:06back.
12:06The important
12:07aspect right
12:08now,
12:08there is
12:08another
12:08important
12:09development
12:09and a
12:10story when
12:10it comes
12:11to the
12:11city of
12:11Chennai.
12:12Unfortunately,
12:12city has
12:13also suffered
12:14because of
12:14this in
12:15the previous
12:1510 years
12:16as well.
12:16And this
12:17is about
12:17the illegal
12:18banners,
12:19hoardings and
12:19flags.
12:20Be it
12:20DMK,
12:21be it
12:22AIDMK and
12:23now TVK,
12:24all parties,
12:25the carers
12:25seem to be
12:25very much
12:26interested in
12:27raising banners
12:28and hoardings,
12:29but illegally.
12:30And that
12:30is becoming
12:30a question
12:31considering one
12:32of the
12:32MLAs,
12:33Salamanan,
12:33the
12:33surely known
12:34MLA from
12:34TVK,
12:35had to
12:35approach the
12:36Madrasa
12:36court to
12:36quash an
12:37FAR that
12:37was filed
12:38against him
12:38for raising
12:39an illegal
12:40banner in
12:402025.
12:41Now,
12:41what Salamanan
12:42has done,
12:42that he has
12:43given a
12:44public video
12:45message stating
12:46that the
12:46party carers
12:47should not
12:48actually raise
12:48any kind of
12:49illegal banners
12:50or hoardings
12:50or flags
12:51considering that
12:52it is hazardous
12:53and he is
12:54requesting the
12:54party carers
12:55to refrain
12:56from acting
12:57in any such
12:58manners.
12:58Unfortunately,
12:59such banners
13:00and such
13:00hoardings
13:01are still
13:01prevalent.
13:02Let's listen
13:02to first
13:03what Salamanan
13:04has to say
13:04and then
13:04my colleague
13:05Anaga
13:05has also
13:06done a
13:06ground
13:07reality
13:07check.
13:07Let's
13:08listen to
13:08that
13:08as well.
13:56Thank you very much.
14:06We are reporting from near Warren Road. This falls under the Mailapur MLA Venkatraman's constituency and I just want to
14:16show you what this stretch really looks like. Just look at the number of posters really been put up.
14:21First is you have VCK's Chief Stolthirum Avalavan's poster. Right next to that you have Rahul Gandhi Vijay's poster, Praveen
14:28Chakravarti and Vijay. And up next to that you have Sivakarthi Kain and another follower of his posters. Just look
14:36at the number of posters stuck here at the walls in Warren Road. This is exactly what public keeps pulling
14:44up and flagging. The sheer number of posters being stuck across the city really drawing the public eye up.
14:50And I just want to pan around here just across the road and show you another such poster being illegally
14:56put up in this road. That's Vijay's poster along with his followers. There's also Mailapur MLA Venkatraman's photo being put
15:04up there.
15:04The sheer number of posters that's being unauthorizedly put up across the city which is really causing a lot of
15:11public nuisance especially those who are travelling. You never know at what moment a banner might sort of collapse and
15:17fall on a pedestrian or fall on somebody who's going on a two-wheeler.
15:21So it's really risky for people. So therefore the Madras High Court has pulled up many political leaders in the
15:28past and now an appeal has gone once again to the carvers of TVK to not do this anymore.
15:32So let's wait and watch if the nuisance of public banners and posters flags that's being illegally put up really
15:39comes to an end at least from now.
15:41Anagar Keshav for India today reporting from Chennai.
15:44We are reporting from Mailapur and I want to show you the number of posters, the number of banners here.
15:50Look at this huge huge banner that's being put up here at the intersection of four roads.
15:56Right next to that is another post, is another banner, huge banner. Just imagine the life risk if there is
16:01a pedestrian that's walking close to the banner or if there is a two-wheeler that's going there and if
16:06the banner is a bit loose it's just going to collapse and fall on the person that's walking here which
16:10is extremely extremely dangerous for people.
16:12And therefore this is the intersection of four roads that you saw where two banners, huge ones, huge banners have
16:20been put up here.
16:21It's remained to be seen if the corporation will really take action against the ones who are illegally putting up
16:27banners off the scale.
16:28The TVK says that they've already instructed their carders to not do this but it still continues to be at
16:33scale.
16:34So it's remained to be watched out for if there will be action taken against those who are putting up
16:39these illegal banners.
16:40Yes. Anagar Keshav for India Today reporting from Chennai.
16:47Well it's very unfortunate that such things still continue in the state of Tamil Nadu especially in Chennai where already
16:53there are laws to make sure that such holdings and banners are done with appropriate authorities permission.
16:59Anagar Keshav is live with us.
17:00Anagar, unfortunate that we could see such kind of posters and dinners are there and we also saw ECR Saravanan
17:05going ahead and requesting the cadres not to behave in such manner.
17:08But my one question is, is the leader practicing what he preaches because Saravanan has come down under scrutiny quite
17:15a lot of times for such kind of lavish practice earlier.
17:22That's right. He has been pulled up many many times by public also so much so that the name ECR
17:28Saravanan is synonymous with banners and flexes being put up.
17:31The public also knows what this MLA is notoriously known for.
17:34It is for erecting illegal posters and banners and flexes across the city with no care really been given to
17:42public who use, whose lives are being put at jeopardy because of this huge flexes that's being put up.
17:47And therefore now he's sent out a video appealing to his party cadres to not do that anymore.
17:53This is not the first time. Even in the past, Minister Busi Anand as well had sent out multiple warnings
17:59to his own party cadres to not do that anymore.
18:01And now ECR Saravanan himself has requested party cadres but this practice keeps continuing.
18:06And let's be very clear, it's not just limited to TVK.
18:09There were cadres in DMK and AIDMK, BJP included, who have stuck up banners and posters of their leaders bang
18:17in the middle of the road.
18:18So this illegal practice continues across political parties.
18:22It's just sheer fanfare that really has to come to an end because it's the ire and the safety of
18:27public that's really been put at jeopardy.
18:34Thank you for those updates, Anagar.
18:35One thing is very clear, the Nethas need to understand that the road belongs to the pedestrians and then those
18:40commuters as well, but not to illegal banners or hoardings.
18:44We don't have to say this, but we are unfortunately forced to do so.
18:47Please follow the law and order when you raise such banners and hoardings.
18:51These are the important stories from the state of Tamil Nadu.
18:53Moving on to Andhra, a very important meeting is expected to happen today.
18:57And for that, let's go to Apoorah Jaiya.
18:59Thank you very much.
19:29In fact, the Tamil Nadu's chief minister, Joseph T. Vijay, is all set to arrive here in Vijayawada this evening.
19:36He will not only be coming here to the famous Ammavari temple here in Vijayawada,
19:41he will also be going ahead and have an all-important discussion with the Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Narachandra Babu
19:49Nairu.
19:49Remember, both the CMs already on board with talks that have been led by chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Narachandra
19:56Babu Nairu, talking about the linking of Godavari and Saavari waters.
20:01A very important, and might I add, a pressing issue for the southern states, be it Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,
20:08Pradesh, Kerala, or even Salangana.
20:10And it was the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Narachandra Babu Nairu, who, of course, proposed the linking of Godavari
20:16and Kaavari waters together to ensure that the neighboring states,
20:20be it Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, or Tamil Nadu, Andhra, and Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Salangana, all of these do
20:27not have any water issues with the upcoming rainy season as well.
20:32But more importantly, in the Vijayawada Utsaf today, Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay will receive a grand welcome.
20:39All preparations that have been set in stage out here for Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay,
20:45He will be welcomed by Vijayawada's member of parliament dad, Shivanath, who will be going ahead and giving a warm
20:53welcome for the Tamil Nadu chief minister.
20:55He will be coming here to this very Kanaka Durga, Ambawari temple in Vijayawada, wherein he will have a special
21:01action.
21:02Following that action, Vijay will be sitting and having a small talk with the Andhra Pradesh, chief minister Narachandra Babu
21:10Nairu,
21:10both chief ministers sitting down for the second time for the southern meeting that took place in Mahabali Purimshad by
21:17union minister Amit Shah.
21:19And now it looks like with both the CMs on the same thought process of going ahead and calling for
21:25the meeting of Godavari and Kaveri waters talks,
21:29definitely today's filter is resting.
21:31Listen in to the important conversation, exclusive conversation we had with the Vijayawada MP K. Staley.
21:40Tamil Nadu chief minister, Joseph C. Vijay, who is set to arrive here today,
21:44do you think that this will also be one of the topics that will be discussed between the CMs?
21:48Definitely there are a lot of issues.
21:52One major issue is linkage between Godavari and Kaveri.
21:55Definitely all the CMs are going to talk on that.
21:58The negotiations will be going on.
22:00So one more thing I can say to you is our CM.
22:03Actually, he keeps on talking, he's the first waterman of, last time also he got an award from Economic Times,
22:11I think,
22:11waterman of India.
22:13So he keeps on talking about the measuring of the rivers.
22:19Well, you've seen, you've heard the Vijayawada MP going ahead and talking about how this will be an important meeting
22:25that will take place between both the chief ministers,
22:29Bait and the Padish chief minister, Narajan Babu Nairu,
22:31or Tamil Nadu chief minister, Joseph C. Vijay.
22:33In just a couple of hours, Vijay is also to arrive here,
22:37and it looks like Vijayawada Utsav and the festivities on one side,
22:40which he will enjoy,
22:41and more importantly,
22:43that all in all discussion that will take place between the chief ministers.
22:47That's all from the state of Andhrippadee.
22:49Moving on to Shibhimol in Kerala.
23:01Thank you, Apoorva.
23:02Well, in Kerala, a major controversy has erupted after the INC Kerala's X-Handle made a post targeting the judiciary.
23:10The X-Handle of INC Kerala said that,
23:13targeting the chief justice said that,
23:15Dear Surya Khand,
23:16if law and order is not your domain,
23:18please resign.
23:19We will find a replacement who can handle it.
23:22Now, this sparked a major controversy with the BJP launching a scathing attack on the Congress,
23:28saying that the Congress now has started attacking judiciary
23:31and also targeting the constitutional positions.
23:34The tweet went viral,
23:36and the tweet has now been removed by the handle.
23:38The Kerala leadership of the Congress said that,
23:41they don't align with the views of that statement.
23:44It was made by somebody who is belonging to the social media team,
23:48and action has been initiated.
23:50That person who made this tweet has been removed from the social media team,
23:54is what the KPCC President Sandi Joseph said.
23:56He also went on to say that,
23:58this is not our statement.
24:00The Congress do not have an opinion like this against the judiciary.
24:05The Congress respects the judiciary and the constitutional values,
24:08is what the KPCC President said.
24:12Well, that's all we have from the Kerala segment.
24:15Do go to my colleague Nagar today.
24:20With that, we come to the end of today's episode of SoSau.
24:23Thanking Shibhi, Pramod, Anaga, Apoorva
24:25for getting us all the latest updates from the respective states.
24:29We'll see you at 1 p.m. once again tomorrow.
