In the early 8th century, an Umayyad military campaign reached Sindh and changed the political course of the region. At its center was a young commander whose name would become closely associated with one of the most significant turning points in Sindh’s history: Muhammad bin Qasim.
This historical documentary examines the campaign that brought Arab forces to Debal, the siege of the city, the defeat of Raja Dahir, and the establishment of Umayyad rule in parts of Sindh.
But the conquest cannot be understood through battles alone. Sindh already had a long history of regional politics, commercial connections, cultural exchange, and contact with territories to its west.
We explore Muhammad bin Qasim’s military operations, his connection with Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, the major events surrounding the conquest, and the circumstances that led to the sudden end of his career.
**Episode 4 of Qadeemi Duniya’s History of Sindh series**, this documentary continues the journey through Sindh’s past, examining the arrival of Arab rule and its place in the region’s wider history.
